Abstract

This chapter develops the consequences of the analysis. No group agents are required to understand plural action sentences, only individual agents. Collective action can be unintentional as well as intentional, and unintentional under every description, in contrast to singular action. There is no belief requirement on collective action per se. Strictly speaking there are no collective actions because groups per se cannot stand in the primitive agency relation to the types of events groups can bring about. Finally, the account is applied to cases from the literature: Bratman’s Mafia sense of ‘We’re going to New York together’; Chant’s case of the two good Boy Scouts.
