Abstract

This essay’s underlying premise is that a hermeneutical approach to philosophy enables philosophy to sustain its traditional ties with wisdom. In defending this thesis, I intend to show that hermeneutical philosophy by no means relinquishes the functions heretofore fulfilled by philosophy in its metaphysical variant. Evidence of this lies in its sustainment of the concept of Truth and its espousal of the problems of human action and human existence, which allows hermeneutical philosophy to appear as wisdom. I will precede my support of this thesis with an attempt to answer the following questions: What is wisdom? What is philosophy? What, to date, has their relation to each other been?
