Abstract
This paper examines the ways in which corpus technologies[aut]Corpus technologies may[aut]Teaching English be used while teaching EnglishTeachingteaching English to speakers of other languages. It indicates the advantages and disadvantages of using national corpora in the language classroom. The author indicates the factors affecting the application of corpus technologiesCorpus technologies, including the level of a teacher’s proficiency, the native language[aut]Native language of the students, the relevance of the internet-based instruments to the needs of those who study a foreign language[aut]Foreign language, and the current situation in lessons. The author employs the following scientific mechanisms: literature review, analysis of the study guides created on the basis of the language corpora, overview of the exercises constructed with the help of the corpus, and suggests for a system of tasks and instructions to be used in the language classroom. Information and communication technologies in teaching EnglishTeachingteaching English as a foreign language can be used not only at the initial stage, but also at more advanced levels. The author distinguishes the different areas of the corpus pedagogy[aut]Pedagogy, describes three approaches to creating corpus-based exercises, and provides the samples of exercises created on the basis of the Michigan Corpus of Upper-Level Student Papers[aut]Michigan Corpus of Upper-Level Student Papers. The author comes to the conclusion that corpus technologiesCorpus technologies can serve not only linguistic but also linguo-didactic goals.
