Abstract

Arthur Norman Prior (1914–1969) is known as the founding father of tense-logic, which he presented for the very first time in 1954. He was very interested in the apparent logical conflict between the Christian doctrines of divine foreknowledge and human freedom. Using his tense-logical formalism, he demonstrated that the two doctrines can be consistently held. In addition, he showed that his tense-logic offered a new and interesting approach to understanding the concept of time.
