Abstract

This chapter argues that Australia is an excellent candidate to build on global good practice and implement Future Generations Policy as it is a state with a unique combination of institutional strength, cultural wisdom, economic stability, innovation capacity, and international influence. The chapter provides an extended case study on the features that would compel Australia to adopt a Future Generations Policy framework, specifically the groundwork to date, research innovation and evaluation capacity, the cultural and demographic advantage, ecological vulnerability and economic complexity, strategic international position and track record, growing momentum and public mandate, timing and the political window of opportunity, new bipartisan movements for a Commissioner, and imperatives to act.
