Abstract

Technological development has had several beneficial consequences for human lives, but it has also resulted in various unintended side-effects that endanger the sustainability of human cultures and our current ways of living. This book focuses on the cultural sustainability of a central modern technology the importance of which is predicted to increase in the near future, namely social robots. The aim of this chapter is to introduce the topics of cultural sustainability and culturally sustainable social robotics and to provide brief presentations of the chapters that are included in the anthology.
