Abstract

This chapter examines how generative AI is transforming academic writing and publishing. It explores AI’s role across the entire writing lifecycle—from overcoming writer’s block and structuring arguments to refining prose, formatting citations, and preparing submissions. While AI accelerates drafting and revision through brainstorming, stylistic editing, and even simulated peer review, the chapter underscores that human oversight remains critical for intellectual depth, factual accuracy, and scholarly rigor. It also addresses the risks of over-reliance, including hallucinated citations and the erosion of academic voice, and offers practical strategies for integrating AI responsibly into writing workflows without compromising originality or integrity.
