Abstract

This paper presents the Garcia Interior Field Theory of Consciousness — a unified framework proposing that consciousness is not a substance, soul, or divine gift, but a natural phenomenon that arises when physical systems become sufficiently integrated, self-referential, and continuous. Beginning with the observation of a plant turning toward sunlight and building through physics, chemistry, biology, and neuroscience, the theory arrives at a single equation — C* — capable of measuring the degree of conscious experience in any system. The paper resolves three of the most debated problems in philosophy of mind: the Hard Problem of Consciousness, the Binding Problem, and the Boltzmann Brain Problem. It argues that what every tradition has called the soul is more accurately described as movement — organized, integrated, self-referential, and continuous. The implications extend across science, medicine, artificial intelligence, ethics, law, and religion. The paper closes with an examination of why this framework will be resisted, and why that resistance, however understandable, does not change the underlying truth.
