Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to explore the possibility of moral machine learningMoral machine learning (MML) and its possible alternatives. We begin by studying artificial neural networksArtificial neural networks in order to learn about their potential and shortcomings with regard to the creation of artificial moral intelligenceArtificial moral intelligence (AMI). We then undertake a critical analysis of the main AI-based approaches to moral machine learningMoral machine learning (MML) which use moral valueValues acquisition and encoding processes. The third theme to be addressed is a critical reflection on the possibility of artificial moral intelligenceArtificial moral intelligence (AMI). Finally, we turn to consider whether the state of the art of current AI-based ethical governance offers a plausible alternative to artificial moral intelligenceArtificial moral intelligence (AMI).
