Abstract

For many people, the key figures of New Confucianism emerged following the May Fourth Movement, and have been making efforts in a genealogized development of studies since then. Indeed, after the fierce attack of Confucianism in the New Culture Movement, self-justification remained the direction to work towards for all people who had been sympathetic with Confucianism. Self-justification also laid the common ground for the New Confucians.
