Abstract

In the late 1740s Euler wrotePhilosophy two memoirs devoted to the investigationItaly of celestial perturbations in general and SaturnSaturn perturbation in particular. In these memoirs, he raised doubts over the validity of the inverse-square lawLaw but, at the same timeTime, he developed analyticalAnalytical methods for determining planetary perturbations that were of great importance in celestial mechanics.
