Abstract

Social media (including wikis, weblogs, microblogging, and social networks) are considered particularly user centered and participatory; they activate (even) more than previous Internet technologies for participation, exchange, networking, and self-presentation. Following insights and perspectives of early feminist Internet research, the text presents a series of gender-relevant topics in relation to social media: access and usage, practices of self-presentation, infrastructures, activism and public spheres as well as work.
