Abstract

This work proposes a reflection on the professional qualification of Doulas, taking as inspiration the training path “Training Doulas for multidisciplinary care in obstetric care: training path for trainers”, proposed by the Joaquim Venâncio Polytechnic School, Fiocruz/ RJ. This reflection has as its reference the training of Doulas in the light of professional education, whose theoretical contributions permeate the theory of integral, omnilateral and humanized teaching. Therefore, the analysis of the professional training of Doulas carried out here will include the importance of considering the inclusion of themes related to the inclusion and accessibility of pregnant people with disabilities. As a central point, the study will be conducted under the guidance of training that, in addition to physical, emotional and informational support, incorporates the practice of mediation in support during the pregnancy-puerperal cycle of women with disabilities into the work of Doulas. Thus, this text points to the assumption that accessibility and support for these professionals are basic rights and fundamental elements of humanization in the health field, especially when we refer to pregnant women. Only in this way do we understand that the elements inherent to universal access, comprehensive care and equity in healthcare offerings will be covered.
