Abstract

I cordially thank the members of the Central Committee for the high honor they have bestowed on me-my election as General Secretary of the Central Committee. I am fully aware of the tremendous responsibility that has been placed upon me. I understand how important and how extremely complicated the work before me is. I assure the Central Committee, and the party, that I will apply all my efforts, my knowledge, and my experience to justifying this confidence and, together with you, continue that fundamental line of our party that Iurii Vladimirovich Andropov consistently and persistently put into practice.
