Abstract

This is the transcript of a written exchange that Robin Celikates and Matthias Fritsch carried out between November 2024 and March 2025. We focus the conversation on civil disobedience in response to climate change and in the context of massive global and intergenerational injustices. We discuss climate disobedience as a paradigm case of the politicizing and democratizing force that civil disobedience can be in response to wide-spread entrenched and often invisibilized forms of domination and depoliticization. Drawing on critical rather than ideal theory, we pay special attention to the role disobedience plays in accounts of radical democracy and in relation to ecological destabilization.
