Abstract

This paper is the result of qualitative research that intertwined theoretical studies with dense fieldwork, the aim of which was to investigate the reasons for the school failure of a group of children and adolescents from the Jardim Gramacho garbage dump, in Duque de Caxias, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Supported by Jessé Souza's (2018a, 2018b) theory of contemporary classes and Bourdieu and Passeron's (2014) theory of the education system, I carried out dense field research in the subjects' daily lives using an unprecedented methodological device (Lahire, 2004), which made it possible to analyze social reproduction in the daily life of the classroom.
