Abstract

According to the Agenda 2030Agenda 2030 ‘The twenty-first century will be the century of the cities to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable’. In this regard the United NationsUnited Nations (UN) endeavour to leave no one behind. Adding to this the UN’s Special Rapporteur (2018) on the Right to Adequate HousingRight to Adequate Housing noted that ‘housing conditions around the world remain extremely challenging, with homelessnessHomelessness on the rise including in most affluent countries, forced evictions and displacement continuing unabated, informal settlements that lack basic services and security of tenure growing, and housing markets forcing poor and low-income households out’. In this regard, the global south is tested by a large proportion of the population living in very poor-quality informal housing or are homeless.
