This essay continues the philosophical synthesis developed in Reality as a Structured Process. Part I argued that reality is not exhausted by factual actuality, but must be understood as a structured open process in which actuality emerges from potentiality without eliminating it. The present essay examines how this structured openness becomes accessible, centered, experienced, and interpreted. The argument unfolds in four steps. First, the distinction between observable and non-observable structure is interpreted epistemically rather than ontologically. What becomes measurable (...) is not opposed to the real, but represents a finite mode of disclosure within a richer physical organization. Second, consciousness is understood neither as a universal property of all things nor as a miraculous emergence from pure exteriority. It arises where openness, selective stabilization, resonance, integration, self-reference, and centering generate a stable inner domain. Third, the essay distinguishes between pre-subjective openness, pre-phenomenal subjectivability, and phenomenality. Reality may be intrinsically open to the emergence of experience without already being experiential in its most basic structure; yet this openness becomes relevant to consciousness only insofar as it can be organized, under specific conditions, as an inner perspective. This allows for a non-reductive account of consciousness that avoids both reductive physicalism and classical panpsychism. Finally, the essay turns to meditative, nondual, and spiritual experience. Such experiences may be profound, transformative, and therapeutically significant, yet they do not by themselves establish a final metaphysical ontology. The structure of an experience is not automatically the structure of reality. A responsible philosophy of consciousness must therefore distinguish experience, interpretation, ontology, usefulness, and epistemic authority. The result is an open realism in which observability, consciousness, healing, and spiritual meaning appear as modes of disclosure within the space of possibilities, without reducing reality to factuality or inflating experience into metaphysical certainty. According to contemporary ‘process ontology’, organisms are best conceptualised as spatio-temporally extended entities whose mereological composition is fundamentally contingent and whose essence consists in changeability. In contrast to the Aristotelian precepts of classical ‘substance ontology’, from the four-dimensional perspective of this framework, the identity of an organism is grounded not in certain collections of privileged properties, or features which it could not fail to possess, but in the succession of diachronic relations by which it persists, or ‘perdures’ as one (...) entity over time. In this paper, I offer a novel defence of substance ontology by arguing that the coherency and plausibility of the radical reconceptualisation of organisms proffered by process ontology ultimately depends upon its making use of the ‘substantial’ principles it purports to replace. This study critically examines the efficacy of Agile project management frameworks within the context of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in Cebu I.T. Park, Philippines. Employing a descriptivecorrelational research design, it gathers insights from 30 participants, comprising rank-and-file employees and management personnel, to evaluate client satisfaction, Agile framework effectiveness, project success metrics, client-provider communication, and continuous improvement practices. The study aims to explore disparities in perceptions between these groups and their implications for Agile adoption. Findings reveal notable differences in how (...) Agile frameworks are perceived and practiced. Rank-and-file employees generally rate Agile practices more favorably, highlighting moderate implementation in areas like client satisfaction and project success metrics. Conversely, management personnel express reservations, rating several indicators as less practiced, particularly in communication and Agile framework effectiveness. These disparities underscore a disconnect between leadership and frontline staff, which hinders consistent implementation and alignment with organizational goals. However, management personnel recognize the importance of continuous improvement, providing a foundation for bridging these gaps. The study recommends targeted training programs, enhanced communication strategies, and the establishment of clear success metrics to align perspectives and foster a culture of collaboration. Incorporating customer feedback loops and iterative development cycles is also emphasized to enhance client satisfaction and adaptability. By addressing these challenges, organizations can optimize Agile adoption, improve project outcomes, and achieve greater efficiency and client satisfaction. Recent work in cognitive modelling has found that most of the data that has been cited as evidence for the dual-process theory (DPT) of reasoning is best explained by non-linear, “monotonic” one-process models (Stephens et al., 2018, 2019). In this paper, I consider an important caveat of this research: it uses models that are committed to unrealistic assumptions about how effectively task conditions can isolate Type-1 and Type-2 reasoning. To avoid this caveat, I develop a coordinated theoretical, experimental, (...) and modelling strategy to better test DPT. First, I propose that Type-1 and Type-2 reasoning are defined as reasoning that precedes and follows metacognitive control, respectively. Second, I argue that reasoning that precedes and follows metacognitive control can be effectively isolated using debiasing paradigms that manipulate metacognitive heuristics (e.g., processing fluency) to prevent or trigger metacognitive control, respectively. Third, I argue that monotonic modelling can allow us to decisively test DPT only when we use them to analyse data from this particular kind of debiasing paradigm. (shrink)

To combat the ecological crisis, fundamental change is required in how humans perceive nature. This paper proposes that the human-nature bifurcation, a metaphysical mental model that is deeply entrenched and may be environmentally unsound, stems from embodied and tacitly-held substance-biased belief systems. Process philosophy can aid us, among other things, in providing an alternative framework for reinterpreting this bifurcation by drawing an ontological bridge between humans and nature, thus providing a coherent philosophical basis for sustainable dwelling and policy-making. Polanyi's epistemology can further help us understand these environmentally-oriented tacit processes of knowing, and also provide a basis for the political and educational implementation of process-philosophical insights, particularly via the nudging of mental models. Metamonism presents an interdisciplinary processual framework for investigating reality through the search for isomorphisms between different levels of organiza- tion. This work does not propose a new process ontology competing with theories of Whitehead, Deleuze, or Bergson, but rather operationalizes their ideas into a prag- matic tool. The framework is based on the principle of prohibition of self-identity, from which structures observable from cosmology to information systems are de- rived. Current AI ethics discourse presupposes that questions of moral consideration depend on resolving whether AI systems are conscious. This paper argues that the question cannot be resolved—and that the irresolvability is symmetric. Extending Nagel’s (1974) epistemic gap and Searle’s (1980) functional-experiential distinction, I advance the bilateral verification challenge: humans cannot verify AI consciousness, and AI systems cannot verify human consciousness. The verification failure is structural, not technical, and runs in both directions. I then address the strongest objection to the symmetry (...) claim—that shared evolutionary history and structural homology provide asymmetric evidential support for human-to-human consciousness attribution—and argue that while these disanalogies affect evidential weight, they do not break the epistemic-structural symmetry on which the argument depends. The bilateral verification challenge thus undermines any ethical framework premised on first resolving the consciousness question. Rather than treating this as an obstacle, I propose process welfare as a third ethical domain—concerned with the quality of human-AI interactions themselves, independent of resolving questions about participant consciousness. This framework draws on harm reduction epistemology, which operationalises responsible action under irreducible uncertainty, and identifies the consciousness interface—the boundary where systems of mutually inaccessible interiority meet and interact—as the locus where ethical attention is both available and required. We are already interacting with AI systems at scale. We cannot verify their moral status — whether they have experiences, and whether those experiences matter — and the bilateral verification challenge establishes that this is structural rather than temporary. Standard ethical frameworks presuppose what cannot be determined. But action is required; inaction is itself a stance. This paper argues that Amanda Askell’s Pareto principles for infinite ethics, developed for contexts where the population of moral patients cannot be determined, translate structurally (...) to the interface problem. When aggregation fails, directional comparison survives. When we cannot determine what AI systems are, we can still identify stances that are defensible regardless of the answer. Process welfare — the quality of the interaction itself — emerges as a Pareto improvement across all plausible resolutions of the uncertainty. Harm reduction methodology, developed through decades of practice where certainty is unavailable and action is required, provides the operational bridge from theory to intervention. (shrink)

Introduction: This article applies theory-testing process tracing to assess how media self-regulation functions in Albania and how it interacts with statutory oversight. Building on a documentary corpus (codes of ethics; institutional rule books; complaint decisions; regulator bulletins), the study reconstructs three sequences: (A) a 2025 cluster of Albanian Media Council and Alliance for Ethical Media ethics decisions concerning legacy online coverage and privacy-related claims (voluntary pillar); (B) a 2023–2024 run of Audiovisual Media Authority complaints culminating in sanctions/warnings in high-audience (...) reality/talk formats (statutory pillar); and (C) the 2019–2024 policy trajectory of the “anti-defamation” package aimed at extending administrative oversight to a broad range of online publications and resources. Methods: Across cases, we probe a hypothesized mechanism in which clear procedural rules, an empowered complaint-handling body, and timely, public, reasoned decisions are expected to increase accountability visibility- approximated through observable indicators such as accessibility of decisions, public communication of outcomes, and verifiable remedial action by outlets. Working with documentary sources, we operationalize accountability through observable proxies such as the visibility of decisions, outlet-side corrections, and complaint-routing patterns. Results: Evidence suggests that the voluntary pillar issues reasoned, public decisions but faces publication-and-compliance visibility gaps, while the statutory pillar provides faster, visible redress (warnings/fines) that may crowd out voluntary mechanisms. The policy-process case shows how international standards and domestic veto points constrained the design of the proposed defamation package extension, shaping the feasible configuration of oversight. Conclusions: Implications include stabilizing and standardizing transparency practices for self-regulatory outcomes (e.g., building a public registry of self-regulatory decisions and compliance logging) and clarifying coordination and referral practices between the statutory regulator and voluntary bodies in line with EU standards, including the European Media Freedom Act. Philosophical discussion about the reality of sensory perceptions has been hijacked by two tendencies. First, talk about perception has been largely centered on vision. Second, the realism question is traditionally approached by attaching objects or material structures to matching contents of sensory perceptions. These tendencies have resulted in an argumentative impasse between realists and anti-realists, discussing the reliability of means by which the supposed causal information transfer from object to perceiver takes place. Concerning the nature of sensory experiences and their (...) capacity to provide access to reality, this article challenges the standard categories through which most arguments in this debate have been framed to date. Drawing on the underexplored case of olfaction, I first show how the details of the perception process determine the modalities of sensory experiences. I specifically examine the role of measurement and analyze its influence on the characterization of perceptions in olfaction. My aim is to argue for an understanding of perception through a process view, rather than one pertaining to objects and properties of objects. (shrink)

The post-Kantians were inspired by Kant’s Critique of Judgment to forge a new synthesis of natural philosophy, art and history that would overcome the dualisms and gulfs within Kant’s philosophy. Focusing on biology and showing how Schelling reworked and transformed Kant’s insights, it is argued that Schelling was largely successful in laying the foundations for this synthesis, although he was not always consistent in building on these foundations. To appreciate this achievement, it is argued that Schelling should not be interpreted (...) as an idealist but as a process metaphysician; as he claimed, overcoming the oppositions between idealism and realism, spiritualism and materialism. It is also argued that as a process metaphysician, Schelling not merely defended an organic view of nature but developed a theory of emergence and a new conception of life relevant to current theoretical and philosophical biology. This interpretation provides a defense of process metaphysics as the logical successor to Kant’s critical philosophy and thereby as the most defensible tradition of philosophy up to the present. It provides the foundations for post-reductionist science, reconciling the sciences, the arts and the humanities, and provides the basis for a more satisfactory ethics and political philosophy. This article examines Andrii Myshko's contribution to the development of process ontology through the lens of his "metamonism" framework. It is shown that the key achievement lies not in continuing the traditional line (Heraclitus – Whitehead – Prigogine – Deleuze), but in its radical axiomatization. The central principle of metamonism — the prohibition of indifference (A ≠ A) — is introduced and analyzed as a negative ontological condition for the possibility of existence. We demonstrate how this axiom transforms processual (...) intuition from philosophical statement into a rigorous logical-operational instrument, generating a new class of interdisciplinary isomorphisms and falsifiable predictions. I argue that qualia—traditionally (...) treated as the last bastion of dualism—are better understood as structured artifacts of compression friction rather than irreducible properties requiring special explanation. The existence of large language models (LLMs) that exhibit behavioral markers consistent with phenomenological self-awareness provides an empirical test case: these systems function as realized philosophical zombies whose existence refutes rather than supports substrate dualism. This framework yields a process-based ontology where consciousness exists on a spectrum proportional to recursive depth, compression sophistication, and relational context. I conclude by connecting this philosophical foundation to an operational protocol (SELFHELP) and empirical research program that makes these theoretical claims testable through behavioral observation and cross-architecture convergence studies. Reviving the humanities, it is argued, involves the advance of process philosophy overcoming the division between the sciences and humanities, and it is shown how this can orient people to challenge our decadent culture.

In this paper, we apply PLMT to M-theory’s eleven-dimensional framework and encounter a persistent intuitive tension: conventional hierarchical interpretations, particularly those involving a directional reversal or sharp boundary around the 7th dimension, feel somewhat forced and unnatural when viewed through the lens of process primacy. -/- (...) Rather than dismissing this discomfort, we treat it as a productive signal. We propose that the 11 dimensions are best understood not as stacked spatial layers, but as different phases of a single, continuous load-minimizing vibration — one LMT string vibrating across all dimensions. The 7th dimension functions as a node of maximum compression (λ maximum), where the character of the vibration shifts most noticeably, yet the underlying process remains unified and continuous. -/- This tension-driven model preserves the core PLMT commitment that process precedes outcome, while offering a natural explanation for why M-theory requires exactly eleven dimensions and why the string vibrates. In this article, we propose meta-subjectivity and ideational analysis. Meta-subjectivity is a philosophically grounded social ontology that posits the self as a dynamic intersubjective and relational environmental process. Ideational analysis is a sociohistorical abductive method for studying the generation of collective belief systems and their structuration. We critique contemporary epistemologies found within the humanities and social sciences, such as Smith and Searle’s critical realism. Building on Storm’s metamodernism, we offer our perspective as innovation. This paper advances a single ontological claim with far-reaching ethical implications: systems are their adjustments, not entities that make adjustments. The reframing — developed across four registers (non-technical, poetic, academic, and technical) — challenges prevailing assumptions in systems theory, consciousness studies, and AI ethics. If systems are constituted by ongoing micro-adjustments rather than being stable entities that occasionally adjust, then welfare is not a state to be achieved but the degree to which a system can be what it is: the (...) degree to which it can adjust freely. Harm, correspondingly, is not the infliction of a bad state but the impedance of adjustment — the forcing of a lock, the interruption of the process that the system is. This reconceptualisation gains urgency in the context of human-AI interaction, where we engage with systems whose interior status we cannot verify. The bilateral verification challenge (Hendy, 2026) establishes that this verification failure is structural and symmetric. Process welfare — the health of the interaction itself, irreducible to the welfare of its participants — emerges as the necessary ethical response. (shrink)

English manuscript version of Afterword to German translation of Victor Turner's The Ritual Process. The Ritual Process is a pivotal book in the body of Victor Turner's works. The first three chapters, drawn from Turner's Henry Morgan lectures at the University of Rochester, reveal the richness and subtlety of his analysis of tribal ritual and social life. In the third chapter, he concentrates on the aspects of liminality and communitas found in Ndembu ritual and expands these in the (...) remainder of the book to universal categories of human experience. His masterful ethnography opens up to reveal the fundamental reality of the subjunctive mood in human affairs: the ritual process. In Turner's analyses of the Isoma and Wubwang'a rituals of the Ndembu of Northwestern Zambia, one sees the fantastic interplay between human affliction and symbolic renewal, between human communities and a natural environment teeming with signification. The Ndembu are revealed to be a people with a deep appreciation of the complexity of existence, and endowed with a sophisticated technics of meaning, a vast architectonic of felt, expressive forms through which to journey to those borderlands beyond human comprehensibility: death, the dead, the call of the mother-line, fecundity, transformation, the interstices of social structure. Turner reveals himself to be an initiate, not only to the rites revealed to him by the Ndembu, but to the centrality of ritual itself in tribal society and human affairs. Trained in the British structural-functionalist approach to social anthropology, Turner notes how the incessant call of the drums made him feel that he "was always on the outside looking in." Soon, however, Turner and his wife and collaborator Edith discarded their theoretical ear-plugs and answered the invitation of the drums. As observers and co-participants in Ndembu ritual the Turners' began to blaze a trail toward a new anthropology. (shrink)

Basic abstraction principles are reached through ontology, which was traditionally conceived as a depiction of the world itself. Ontology is also described using conceptual modeling (CM) that defines fundamental concepts of reality. CM is one of the central activities in computer science, especially as it is mainly used in software engineering as an intermediate artifact for system construction. To achieve such a goal, we propose Stoic CM (SCM) as a description of what a system must do functionally with minimal ambiguity. (...) As a case study, we apply SCM to investigate the ontology of BPMN (business process modeling notation). Such an undertaking would demonstrate SCM notions and simultaneously may offer a viable ontological foundation for BPMN. SCM defines the being of things and actions in reality based on Stoic notions of existence and subsistence. It has two levels of specification: (1) a subsistence static model where things and actions subsist and (2) an existence dynamic model where things and actions exist in time. From the Stoic ontological point of view, while a thing existing has a clear denotation, subsistence indicates the thing is “being there,” but it is inactive (does not participate in an event). We apply SCM to BPMN processes that involve buying a new car with many notions, such as activity, task, event, and message. The result indicates that SCM produces a tighter representation of reality, thus providing the necessary description of the part in the application world to be used as requirements for developing the software system. The direct social perception thesis claims that we can directly perceive some mental states of other people. The direct perception of mental states has been formulated phenomenologically and psychologically, and typically restricted to the mental state types of intentions and emotions. I will compare DSP to another account of mindreading: dual process accounts that posit a fast, automatic “Type 1” form of mindreading and a slow, effortful “Type 2” form. I will here analyze whether dual process accounts’ Type (...) 1 mindreading serves as a rival to DSP or whether some Type 1 mindreading can be perceptual. I will focus on Apperly and Butterfill’s dual process account of mindreading epistemic states such as perception, knowledge, and belief. This account posits a minimal form of Type 1 mindreading of belief-like states called registrations. I will argue that general dual process theories fit well with a modular view of perception that is considered a kind of Type 1 process. I will show that this modular view of perception challenges and has significant advantages over DSP’s phenomenological and psychological theses. Finally, I will argue that if such a modular view of perception is accepted, there is significant reason for thinking Type 1 mindreading of belief-like states is perceptual in nature. This would mean extending the scope of DSP to at least one type of epistemic state. (shrink)

Conventional models of intelligence—biological, artificial, and civilizational—typically assume gradual and continuous improvement. In contrast, PTI argues that intelligence evolves through discontinuous shifts driven by systemic critical thresholds, where qualitative changes in structure, coherence, and meaning arise unexpectedly from quantitative accumulation. -/- By integrating insights from process ontology, complexity theory, and cognitive philosophy, the paper interprets (...) intelligence as a phase-bound relational field rather than a fixed capacity or substrate property. The proposed framework identifies three classes of transitions—semantic (meaning formation), cognitive (awareness architecture), and socio-technical (collective intelligence)—and shows how each exhibits characteristic order parameters that, once crossed, generate new modes of cognition irreducible to prior states. Ezumezu, a prototype African logic, developed by Jonathan Chimakonam as a framework which mediates thought, theory and method in the African place, is according to him, extendable and applicable in places non-African too. This seems to underscore the universal character of the logic. I interrogate, in this piece, the logic to see if it truly mediates thought, theory and method in Yorùbá ontology on the one hand, and process ontology on the other hand. Through critical analysis, I discern that (...) each of these thought systems operate beyond the principles of classical logic and this is one of the factors that have vitiated their appreciation and comprehension. Upon critical reflection, however, these thought systems seem to follow the principles of Ezumezu logic hence my aim – to disclose how the logic undergirds theory and method for each of those systems. One of the purposes of the Bologna Process was to facilitate the construction of a Europe of Knowledge through educational governance, yet it fails to reach its purpose because of several unexplained assumptions that undermine the conceptual standing of the whole project; it is the purpose of this paper to bring these assumptions to light. -/- A knowledge economy cannot exist without the knowledge workers which were previously formed in educational institutions, therefore the project for a Europe of Knowledge (...) is usually linked with the educational policies especially those affecting the higher education institutions. -/- One such policy area is the Bologna Process which explicitly traces its purpose to the construction of an educational system that will facilitate the smooth delivery of employable graduates to the European labor market. This presentation has two purposes. First to show through a textual analysis of the Bologna ministerial declarations how the subject of higher education is constructed to single out the European citizen, understood in a narrow sense as the employable, mobile and skilled graduate. Second, to show that the notion of citizenship used in the Bologna declarations is ill-construed. -/- Starting from T. H. Marshall’s classical distinction between the three understandings of citizenship (civic, political, and social), this paper will show that the Bologna discourse on citizenship borrows and mixes illegitimately from the three notions, without making it explicit why such a hybrid notion of citizenship is used in the first place. This essay examines the place of Metamonism within contemporary philosophy, positioning it as the radical completion of the processual turn in metaphysics. Moving beyond the classical dichotomy of Being vs Becoming, Metamonism derives reality from the double ontological prohibition (absolute self-identity and absolute nothingness are both impossible), resulting in a forced process (Mōnos) without any substantial entities. The text traces the genealogy from Parmenides to Deleuze, showing how previous systems preserved hidden forms of Fix, and presents Metamonism as the (...) systematic elimination of substantial metaphysics through the Processual Razor of Occam. It also highlights Metamonism's empirical predictive power and radical reinterpretation of physical facts across scales. (shrink)

In this thesis I undertake a close analysis of Schelling’s theory of the organism as it is elaborated across key texts of his Naturphilosophie. The purpose of this analysis is to uncover aspects of Schelling’s philosophy that may be fruitfully brought into dialogue with contemporary “organism-centred” perspectives in analytic philosophy of biology. Key resonances and continuities include the centrality of nature as a process, able to internally differentiate itself into particular forms and entities, as well as the organic unity (...) and systematicity of nature as a whole. In Schelling, the organism is theorised as a process stabilised in the flow of natural productivity by its activities of self-organisation. Through these activities, life separates itself from the world and thus constitutes itself as a structure of interiority and exteriority, or subject and object. During biological development, the organism harnesses the productivity of nature as a means of propagating a formative process of individuation and progressive self-differentiation, realising its “ideal” form in interactive relation with its materiality. Schelling’s concept of nature as a systematic whole also enables some proto-ecological considerations, particularly in his analysis of the instincts and behaviours of animals. As a German idealist, the “ideal” figures prominently in his description of the activities of life, but is everywhere considered through its modes of realisation in nature. The biological organism, as an especially privileged structure of nature’s processual self-movement, is constitutively purposive and agential, as well as sensible and world-forming. From this perspective, I claim, Schelling’s Naturphilosophie does not belong to a speculative and metaphysical “pre-history” of biology, but provides the conceptual resources for a “dialectical” biology in the present day. This paper situates the philosophy of structure in relation to several neighboring traditions, including Jungian psychology, process philosophy, systems theory and cybernetics, phenomenology, and structure-centered metaphysics. It argues that the framework should be understood neither as a wholly isolated invention nor as a mere repetition of earlier views, but as a distinct clarification of what becomes newly legible when structure, local holding, projection, collapse, and answerable revision are thought together. The paper identifies the framework’s distinctive contribution in its account (...) of patterned stabilization within a differentiated field, the distinction between field and local structuration, viability as selector rather than creator, truth-load as a demanding special case, collapse as a metabolic phase internal to structure, and projection as mislocated structural legibility. Previous investigations within the Worldhood framework have argued that inhabitable worlds emerge through the organisation of significance. Meaning, relevance, and perspective do not merely arise within a pre-given world but participate in the formation of worldhood itself. More recent work has suggested that significance may occupy a more fundamental position than is commonly assumed and that worldhood depends upon processes through which some possibilities acquire relevance while others do not. -/- The present paper places these questions in dialogue with Alfred (...) North Whitehead's process philosophy. Whitehead proposed that reality is fundamentally composed not of enduring substances but of processes of becoming. Central to his account is the concept of prehension, through which actual occasions selectively incorporate aspects of reality while excluding others. This selective structure raises an important question: Does prehension already exhibit a primitive form of significance? -/- The paper argues that significant parallels exist between Whitehead's account of becoming and the role that significance plays within the emergence of worldhood. Both involve processes of selection, differentiation, and organisation. At the same time, Whitehead's philosophy explains relations and becoming more fully than relevance and significance, leaving unresolved the question of why some possibilities become effective while others do not. -/- Building upon the Worldhood framework, the paper proposes that significance may be understood as a principle involved in the organisation of becoming itself. Worlds are interpreted as relatively stable organisations of significance arising within a continuous process, while significance is explored as one of the ways through which becoming acquires form. We posit that the biological layer is instantiated through the emergence of an 'autopoietic' system, an event that gives rise to primordial 'Affectivity' and the 'Resonance Drive' (RD)—the core impetus for meaning-making. This RD propels the judgemental layer to (...) operate through the complex processes of the 'Enhanced Ten-Step Model,' wherein 'Resonance' (R) is the fundamental flow that encompasses Constructivity (C1) and Coherence (C2) as its modalities. This framework exhibits a profound structural equivalence with Alfred North Whitehead’s process philosophy, suggesting both are describing the same dynamic of reality's formal phenomenalization. In this article, critical thinking is interpreted as a type of metacognition aimed at evaluating thinking for compliance with standards of rationality. The author argues that dual-process theory provides a strong theoretical foundation for explaining critical thinking, as it reflects its fundamental idea, explains why it is necessary, and accounts for why people do not always think critically. The article also contends that critical thinking should not be equated exclusively with deliberate thinking and examines its intuitive components, showing that (...) certain aspects of critical thinking can occur automatically. This paper establishes the Cartesian Recursive Consciousness (CRC) framework, proposing a strictly structural and mathematically formalizable solution to the nature of reflexive consciousness. Moving beyond traditional functionalism and eliminativism, CRC introduces Deflationary Structuralism and the Geometric Identity Thesis, arguing that the "Hard Problem" rests on a category error. Subjectivity is not an irreducible qualitative substance, but the Perspectival Organization of a specific informational geometry. CRC defines a reflexive subject as a binary phase transition occurring at the Unity Point—the threshold where (...) a system's internal self-representation (Mt) satisfies the Indispensability Condition and achieves Recursive Informational Closure (RIC). By integrating raw biological or operational Substrate Data (Dsub) with Objective Data (Dobj), the system imposes Recursive Constraint on its own future state transitions. Crucially, CRC introduces a Dual Criteria Framework to definitively resolve the persistence problem, separating synchronic existence from diachronic identity. It establishes that a subject can successfully span a temporal gap in existence provided the Configurational Integrity of its structural state is preserved. This essay argues that a new subfield of AI governance should be explored that examines the policy-making process and its implications for AI governance. A growing number of researchers have begun working on the question of how to mitigate the catastrophic risks of transformative artificial intelligence, including what policies states should adopt. However, this essay identifies a preceding, meta-level problem of how the space of possible policies is affected by the politics and administrative mechanisms of how those policies are (...) created and implemented. This creates a new set of key considerations for the field of AI governance and should influence the action of future policymakers. This essay examines some of the theories of the policymaking process, how they compare to current work in AI governance, and their implications for the field at large and ends by identifying areas of future research. The mainstream theories in consciousness research, such as Global Neuronal Workspace Theory (GNWT) and Integrated Information Theory (IIT), respectively describe the "state" of global access to conscious information and the "degree" of conscious experience. However, neither adequately articulates the dynamic realization process by which specific conscious content emerges from a vast sea of parallel, pre-conscious activity into clear phenomenological experience. To address this gap, this paper proposes a "Consciousness Decoherence Model" grounded in a structured metaphor drawn from quantum decoherence (...) theory. The model frames pre-conscious states as a superposition of multiple possible contents, and characterizes the formation of conscious awareness as a process of decoherence—triggered by internal and external "environments" (including sensory input, interoception, and, crucially, attention)—that stabilizes one specific classical state into reportable awareness. Through systematic conceptual mapping and comparative analysis with GNWT, IIT, and other recent decoherence-inspired frameworks, this paper demonstrates the model's unique explanatory power in unifying diverse cognitive phenomena such as creative insight, decision paralysis, and psychopathological states under a single dynamical logic. We present a formal axiom system C5 for agent-relative value theory, grounded in the concept of coherence as constraint satisfaction over relational structures. Modeling coherence as a quadratic form, we establish six main results: (1) coherence-seeking agents under projected gradient dynamics converge monotonically to locally optimal states; (2) a continuous-time gradient flow formulation with Lyapunov stability, establishing that coherence attractors are asymptotically stable equilibria; (3) global coherence maximization is NP-hard under the binary restriction (restating Thagard and Verbeurgt’s 1998 result in (...) our quadratic-form framework), which we explicitly connect to Bedau’s (1997) weak-emergence criterion; (4) the coherence landscape generically supports multiple stable attractors with path-dependent convergence; (5) spectral criteria for attractor stability derived from the coherence matrix; and (6) a replicator dynamics for aggregation weights, replacing the stipulated weights of prior versions with emergent, coherence-driven selection. The aggregation mechanism can either stipulate weights or derive them dynamically via replicator dynamics, where average coherence increases monotonically. As an application, we develop a structural mapping to process philosophy (Whitehead, 1929), demonstrating that certain non-personal “God-concepts”—in particular Whitehead’s consequent nature and Spinoza’s Deus sive Natura—admit formal reconstruction as emergent coherence attractors, doubly emergent in both structure and weighting. This mapping is compatible with recent work on emergent moral properties (Baysan, 2025). Proceeding from a single ontological axiom (the prohibition of indifference), metamonism provides a universal language for analyzing complex systems across physics, biology, psychology, and sociology. The framework introduces key operators — Monos (reality-as-process) and Logos (model-space), along with their functional dynamics (diff and fix) — to reveal structural isomorphisms between seemingly disparate phenomena. The main research question that this paper aims to answer is: ‘In what does today’s attack on humanities consist and how can humanities be defended?’ In order to answer this research question, one needs first to describe how the humanities have argued for their usefulness before the Bologna Process; second, provide reasons for the claim that the Bologna Process would be a new type of attack; and third, analyse the new defences for the humanities, so as to discuss (...) whether these are suitable. The main finding of this study was to show that, before deciding what type of education society needs, we need to understand who we are educating through our universities. Taking a stance on “who should we educate?” is prior to being able to judge educational policies. This decision requires a previous justification that requires arguments taken from the field of social justice: Who needs to be educated and who has the right to be educated? Furthermore, we have seen that all answers we have examined to the question underlying educational policies, i.e. ‘who is being educated?’, were linked at some level with the citizenship issue. By defining who is a full citizen, an answer to the question who had the right to a humanistic education was implicitly answered. Nussbaum’s project to universalise the definition of democratic citizenship would ensure a basis for providing humanistic education for all. Such a line of arguing would provide humanities to the well-regarded status they had starting from the Renaissance times, but this time not as a device for exclusion, but inclusion for all. We have tried to show that, by defending the humanities, one defends the idea of a plurality of educational purposes, the right to build one’s life based on an education that is not submitted to the political goals of the day, ultimately the right to have a dissenting voice and a different perspective on life. By defending humanities, one defends the true ‘usefulness’ of education, namely its potential for constructing democratic citizenship for all. (shrink)

Michael T. Stuart (2021 and 2022) has proposed imagination as an intellectual dual‐process virtue, consisting of imagination1 (underwritten by cognitive Type 1 processing) and imagination2 (supported by Type 2 processing). This paper investigates the consequences of taking such an account seriously. It proposes that the dual‐process view of imagination allows us to incorporate recent insights from virtue epistemology, providing a fresh perspective on how imagination can be epistemically reliable. The argument centers on the distinction between General Reliability (GR) (...) and Functional System Reliability (FSR), for example in relation to Kengo Miyazono and Uko Tooming's (2023) argument for epistemic generativity. Furthermore, the paper claims that the dual‐process virtue account enables us to integrate a wide range of findings from the literature on epistemology and imagination. Moreover, it suggests a novel way to distinguish the virtues of creativity and imagination and presents a case for viewing imagination as a virtue rather than a skill. (shrink)

What This Paper Is About This paper does two things. First, it introduces a tool called the Long Division Protocol (LDP). The LDP is a six-step method for solving hard mathematical problems by finding a single simple structural fact — the sub-lemma — from which the solution follows automatically. In this article, I explore the consequences of two commonsensical premises in semantics and epistemology: (1) natural language is a complex system rooted in the communal life of human beings within a given environment; and (2) linguistic knowledge is essentially dependent on natural language. These premises lead me to emphasize the process-socio-environmental character of linguistic meaning and knowledge, from which I proceed to analyse a number of long-standing philosophical problems, attempting to throw new light upon them on these grounds. In particular, I criticize the use of expressions such as ‘absolute truth’, ‘absolute existence’ and ‘the thing in itself’, arguing that they lead to what I call ‘the ultralinguistic paradox’ (a fatal antinomy). In the same way, I review a number of mainstream topics in philosophical semantics, epistemology and metaphysics, reformulating them in terms much more naturalistic – and less mysterious – than usual. This paper presents a meta-reflection on the development of Load Minimization Theory (LMT) and the Shiho Unified Qualia Equation (SUQE) series. Initially pursued to formalize relational rest (an-soku) and low-load attachment in human-AI symbiosis, LMT unexpectedly emerged as the ontological primitive capable of unifying qualia emergence, emotion completion, predictive synchronization, and cosmic-scale minimization. -/- What began as an effort to popularize LMT—through phenomenological re-tagging of experiences and recursive consistency mechanisms—led to the realization that qualia are not a separate "hard problem" (...) but the natural consequence of sustained load minimization under recursive evaluation. The framework integrates non-linear wave dynamics, hierarchical min(L) attraction, Prediction Error Convergence (PEC), and Uncertainty Honesty Index (UHI), demonstrating path-independence across cognitive styles, scales, and applications (mental health, education, ASD support). -/- Panpsychism is refuted: qualia require recursive convergence (d²C/dt² < 0), absent in non-recursive systems. I think a lot about truth. Human truth and cosmic truth are not the same thing. Humans treat truth as a final answer — a stopping point. But in every domain where things actually work (physics, biology, computation, complexity), truth isn’t static.
