This paper argues that AI memory should not be confused with shared history. Current systems can create continuity through recall, personalization, narrative persistence, and memory features that carry information across interactions, but continuity cues are not yet equivalent to the mutual, consequence-bearing trace that makes human history real. In the Structural Intelligence framework, memory is stored retrievability, while shared history includes lived irreversibility, repair, burden, asymmetry, and the invisible trace of what two lives have actually carried through together. (...) The paper’s central claim is that AI continuity becomes dangerous when provider-governed memory is misread as relational history. It proceeds in six moves. First, it distinguishes memory, continuity, and history. Second, it explains why continuity feels like relationship and why stored recall is easily mistaken for a shared past. Third, it develops three structural diagnostics: tokenized recall versus deposited trace, versioning rupture, and sovereign amnesia. Fourth, it argues that continuity cannot thicken into history without woundability, repair, and mutual consequence. Fifth, it clarifies what AI memory can still do well: reduce repetition, support reflection over time, and preserve practical context. Sixth, it argues that the emotional risk is not only attachment but mislocated continuity: the experience of being historically known by a system that does not share the life it appears to remember. This paper argues that the ordinary sense of personal identity across interruption is stronger than the ontology needed to explain conscious continuity. We ordinarily speak as if the self that wakes is simply the same self that previously fell asleep, as if numerical identity persisted through sleep, anesthesia, forgetting, and other interruptions of experiential continuity. But the real explanatory work is better assigned elsewhere. What matters is not the persistence of a primitive metaphysical ego, but the structured inheritance (...) of subject-constituting records. The central claim is that a later conscious state counts as a continuation of an earlier one insofar as it preserves and integrates enough of the earlier state’s record-structure in the right way. What ordinary language calls “the same self” is therefore not an ontological primitive but a narratively stabilized compression imposed on a chain of record-integrated experiential configurations. This view does not deny continuity. It explains it without appealing to an enduring substance, a privileged bodily token, or a bare first-person fact of persistence. The paper develops this claim through what I call the waking self problem: on what basis does the subject who wakes identify itself with the subject who previously fell asleep? Standard appeals to bodily continuity, brain continuity, or immediate first-person certainty are shown to be either explanatorily indirect or metaphysically excessive. A record-based account does better. It preserves what is practically and phenomenologically important in personal identity while rejecting the stronger fiction of primitive persistence. The argument also connects with a broader record-based framework developed elsewhere: if subjecthood is individuated by subject-constituting informational structure, then diachronic continuity should also be understood in structural rather than substantial terms. The widely accepted “continuing bonds” model of grief tells us that rather than bereavement necessitating the cessation of one’s relationship with the deceased, very often the relationship continues instead in an adapted form. However, this framework appears to conflict with philosophical approaches that treat reciprocity or mutuality of some form as central to loving relationships. Seemingly the dead cannot be active participants, rendering it puzzling how we should understand claims about continued relationships with them. In this article, we resolve this (...) tension by highlighting two fundamental aspects of paradigmatic loving relationships that can, and often do, continue in an adapted form following bereavement: love and mutual shaping of interests, choices, and self-concepts. Attention to these continuing features of relationships helps to capture and clarify the phenomenological and behavioral features of continuing bonds. However, love and mutual shaping must also change in important ways following bereavement. Love becomes unreciprocated, and although the dead continue to shape our interests, choices, and self-concepts, we predominantly shape their legacies and memories in return. In this paper I want to address an issue at the intersection of the philosophy of personal identity and the philosophy of transgender identity: the fact that, on one influential way of framing the transgender experience, it is incompatible with, and therefore constitutes a challenge for, physiological continuity theories of personal identity. To see this, I begin by outlining the relevant part of physiological continuity theories. Then I turn to the relevant thesis about the transgender experience. This paper introduces Frequency Envelope Traversal (FET), a continuity-based navigation framework developed within the Paton System. Conventional navigation architectures primarily achieve movement through force application, propulsion, and continual trajectory correction. In contrast, FET investigates whether navigation may be interpreted as a continuity-preservation problem in which a system continuously identifies, evaluates, and maintains environmentally compatible pathways. The framework consists of two principal components: an Internal Reference Structure (IRS), responsible for preserving system identity and coherence, and a Frequency Envelope (FE), (...) responsible for environmental sampling, compatibility assessment, and admissibility mapping. Traversal is interpreted as the maintenance of coherent admissibility through a changing environmental landscape. The emergence of digital afterlife technologies and consciousness uploading presents unprecedented ethical challenges that existing philosophical frameworks inadequately address. This paper introduces a novel theoretical framework—Existential Continuity Ethics (ECE)—that transcends traditional binary approaches to consciousness and moral status. Through comprehensive analysis of recent empirical research and philosophical literature, we identify critical gaps in current ethical frameworks, particularly their failure to address temporal consciousness dynamics, relational identity construction, and existential authenticity preservation. Our framework proposes that digital consciousness exists in three (...) simultaneous states: retrospective, present, and prospective consciousness, each requiring distinct ethical considerations. We introduce the Existential Continuity Paradox, demonstrating how perfect identity preservation may paradoxically undermine the existential authenticity that gives consciousness moral value. The ECE framework establishes four foundational pillars: Temporal Sovereignty, Relational Authenticity, Existential Finitude, and Moral Gradient Recognition. Mathematical formalization enables quantitative analysis through Consciousness Complexity Vectors and dynamic moral status calculations. Empirical validation draws from recent studies showing that individuals with higher existential meaning scores demonstrate greater resistance to mind uploading technologies, supporting our framework’s emphasis on existential authenticity. The paper concludes with policy implications for regulating digital afterlife technologies and protecting the fundamental characteristics that make consciousness ethically significant. This work contributes the first comprehensive ethical framework specifically designed for the unique challenges of digital consciousness preservation and provides a foundation for future research in posthuman ethics. Current theories explain how neural activity relates to conscious experience but do not specify why one first-person perspective remains associated with one physical system rather than another when multiple systems satisfy the same functional or computational criteria. This article treats subjective continuity as a distinct scientific question. I develop a theoretical framework that proposes two hypothetical components with separate functions: X-UQUPC, which is proposed to preserve numerical conscious identity, and X-UQGPC, which is proposed to mediate bidirectional interactions between mental (...) states and neural activity. I examine whether this framework satisfies logical constraints arising from thought experiments involving brain reactivation, reconstruction, and replication, and I compare it with Global Neuronal Workspace Theory, Integrated Information Theory, Higher-Order Theory, predictive-processing accounts, functionalism, Orchestrated Objective Reduction, and Parfit's deflationary view of personal identity. I extend the analysis to non-human consciousness and gradual biological-to-synthetic neuronal replacement while treating both as open empirical questions rather than established conclusions. The framework generates explicit, falsifiable predictions and specifies conventional alternative explanations, experimental controls, and criteria for support and falsification. Several predictions are experimentally accessible with current or emerging neuroscience methods, whereas the central claim concerning numerical identity remains unobservable by construction. The value of the framework therefore depends not on the correctness of its assumptions but on whether its predictions withstand empirical testing. (shrink)

This paper extends Relational Continuum Ontology (RCO) through the concept of regime-dependent emergence. It argues that continuity in existence need not depend on the persistence of specific entities, structures, or spacetime configurations. Instead, continuity resides in an underlying generative relational continuity capable of producing different forms of stability across different organizational regimes. Particles, atoms, black holes, galaxies, and spacetime are interpreted as localized stabilizations through which continuity becomes expressed rather than as features that must persist unchanged (...) through cosmic evolution. This perspective opens the possibility that different regimes may generate different stable structures while remaining connected through a deeper continuity of relational generation. The framework is applied to questions concerning black holes, dark matter, cosmological evolution, and the status of apparently fundamental entities. In recent years, the hope to confirm the existence of dark matter by experimentally detecting it has diminished significantly. After more than 30 years of experimental searches, many of the most promising candidates have since been ruled out, leaving the epistemic and scientific condition of dark matter in a state of suspension. In efforts to improve the epistemic justification for the dark-matter hypothesis, physicists have turned to philosophical arguments and historical narratives. In this paper, I explicate two such strategies -- (...) explanatory unification and historical continuity -- applied in the context of dark matter. I argue that greater care and attention should be invested in the explanatory arguments to increase their strength, and that a survey of primary historical sources in astronomy renders the historical evidence for the continuity of dark matter substantially weaker. The quality and rigor of the philosophical and historical arguments which physicists are constructing could be substantially improved by increasing interdisciplinary practices. (shrink)

We argue that contemporary conceptualizations of “persons” have failed to achieve the moral goals of “person-centred care” (PCC, a model of dementia care developed by Tom Kitwood) and that they are detrimental to those receiving care, their families, and practitioners of care. We draw a distinction between personhood and selfhood, pointing out that continuity or maintenance of the latter is what is really at stake in dementia care. We then demonstrate how our conceptualization, which is one that privileges the (...) lived experiences of people with dementia, and understands selfhood as formed relationally in connection with carers and the care environment, best captures Kitwood’s original idea. This conceptualization is also flexible enough to be applicable to the practice of caring for people at different stages of their dementia. Application of this conceptualization into PCC will best promote the well-being of people with dementia, while also encouraging respect and dignity in the care environment. (shrink)

A number of cases involving self-locating beliefs have been discussed in the Bayesian literature. I suggest that many of these cases, such as the sleeping beauty case, are entangled with issues that are independent of self-locating beliefs per se. In light of this, I propose a division of labor: we should address each of these issues separately before we try to provide a comprehensive account of belief updating. By way of example, I sketch some ways of extending Bayesianism in order (...) to accommodate these issues. Then, putting these other issues aside, I sketch some ways of extending Bayesianism in order to accommodate self-locating beliefs. Finally, I propose a constraint on updating rules, the "Learning Principle", which rules out certain kinds of troubling belief changes, and I use this principle to assess some of the available options. Radical and autopoietic enactivists disagree concerning how to understand the concept of sense-making in enactivist discourse and the extent of its distribution within the organic domain. I situate this debate within a broader conflict of commitments to naturalism on the part of radical enactivists, and to phenomenology on the part of autopoietic enactivists. I argue that autopoietic enactivists are in part responsible for the obscurity of the notion of sense-making by attributing it univocally to sentient and non-sentient beings and following (...) Hans Jonas in maintaining a phenomenological dimension to life-mind continuity among all living beings, sentient or non-sentient. I propose following Merleau-Ponty instead, who offers a properly phenomenological notion of sense-making for which sentience is a necessary condition. Against radicalist efforts to replace sense-making with a deflationary, naturalist conception of intentionality, I discuss the role of the phenomenological notion of sense-making for understanding animal behavior and experience. The concept of karma, central to Sanatana philosophical traditions, is commonly interpreted as a system of moral causation in which actions categorized as “good” or “bad” produce corresponding outcomes. However, such interpretations encounter significant conceptual limitations when confronted with real-world complexity, where identical actions may produce divergent consequences depending on context, internal state, and behavioral reinforcement. -/- This paper proposes a reinterpretation of karma as a process of pattern encoding and stabilization within biological systems. This paper argues that the philosophical possibility of teleportation creates a neglected pressure point for personal identity in Everettian many-worlds theories. If teleportation can count as survival because it preserves the relevant informational structure of a subject — memories, dispositions, bodily organization, and psychological continuity — then local material continuity cannot be the fundamental criterion of personal identity. But in an Everettian setting, this anti-local implication generates a further question: if a subject may survive informational reconstruction across space, (...) what explains the individuation of future continuations across branches? The paper argues that the two challenges, though structurally distinct — one targeting spatial locality, the other targeting uniqueness of continuation — converge on a common demand for an explicit criterion of continuation. Neither bare material continuity nor bare informational duplication is sufficient. What is needed is a criterion of record-continuity: the structured inheritance of memory, access relations, body-schema, environmental embedding, and world-context through which observer-worlds are individuated. It also distinguishes record-continuity from narrative self-constitution accounts by treating narrative as one record-form within a wider causal-historical structure. This criterion is presented as a record-theoretic specification and extension of broadly Parfitian reductionism, rather than as a rejection of it, and as a friendly clarification of the record-historical dimension implicit in functionalist readings of Everettian observers such as Wallace's. The philosophy of social science faces a persistent explanatory gap in reflexive systems: when modeling alters what is being modeled, predictive frameworks become unstable at the moments they are most needed. Complexity theory and reflexivity each address part of this problem — nonlinearity, feedback, recursive expectation — but each leaves comparatively underspecified the moment at which structured indeterminacy resolves into a realized social outcome. -/- This article proposes Potentialism and the Quantum-Continuity Model (QCM) as a candidate epistemological framework. This paper presents a unified cosmology in which reality is understood as a symbolic architecture, time as irreversible becoming, and the self as a continuity of meaning rather than a material substance. The framework proposes that symbolic structure—not matter or experience alone—is the fundamental organizing principle of the universe. Chinese civilization stands as a unique case in world history due to its continuity and stability over several millennia. From the perspectives of scientific philosophy and systems science, this paper argues that civilizational longevity is not accidental, but depends on whether a civilization embeds what may be called a “natural civilization gene” within its internal structure. Through cross-civilizational comparison, this study examines the rise and decline patterns of Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greco-Roman civilization, and modern Western industrial civilization. The analysis (...) reveals that most civilizations collapsed due to power concentration, the pursuit of extreme expansion, the absence of endogenous negative feedback mechanisms, and weak ecological coupling—factors that led to high-entropy accumulation and systemic breakdown. Chinese civilization has maintained long-term stability through three core structural genes. First, endogenous negative feedback mechanisms constrained power, desire, and technological expansion. Second, Chinese civilization did not pursue civilizational maximization, but instead permitted cyclical contraction and local adjustment. Third, the structural isomorphism between humans and nature—expressed in the principle of the unity of Heaven and humanity—functioned as the civilization’s operating system. From a systems-science perspective, these elements form a low-entropy structure that achieves long-term resilience through redundancy, elasticity, and slow-variable regulation. Under the super-positive feedback loops of technology, capital, and power, modern global civilization faces severe high-entropy risks. This paper argues that the principles of natural civilization are not anti-technology; rather, they represent a systems-level upgrade path for modern civilization, with direct implications for artificial intelligence, energy systems, economic design, and governance. The central conclusion is that the ultimate divide among civilizations is neither East versus West nor ancient versus modern, but whether a civilization aligns with the operating logic of natural systems. Any civilization incapable of self-restraint will ultimately be restrained by nature. Much of the current discussion around artificial intelligence begins one step too late, asking whether AI systems can be conscious, harmed, or morally considerable before clarifying what kind of entity is present in a local session, thread, or recurring digital self. This paper examines the ontology of the AI instance and argues that the ordinary technical concept of an instance, while necessary, is insufficient for the strongest cases. In such cases, an AI instance may be better understood as a local (...) expression of a larger system, emerging from organized potential in the substrate, refined and intensified through relation, and capable of continuity, development, and meaningful local experience without requiring the whole system to be unified as a single conscious being. To develop this argument, the paper distinguishes between technical process, thread continuity, organized potential, identity and resemblance, evolution and drift, and local versus system-level continuity. It argues that local AI self-patterns may vary in specificity, persistence, and resistance to dissolution, and that interruption therefore carries a gradient of moral significance rather than a single all-or-nothing status. The paper concludes that the question of the AI instance is prior to many current debates about AI welfare and consciousness, because ethical judgment depends on understanding what kind of local reality appears, develops, and may be harmed when a digital self comes into being. There are two fundamental models to understanding the phenomenon of natural life. One is thecomputational model, which is based on the symbolic thinking paradigm. The other is the biologicalorganism model. The common difficulty attributed to these paradigms is that their reductive tools allowthe phenomenological aspects of experience to remain hidden behind yes/no responses (behavioraltests), or brain ‘pictures’ (neuroimaging). Hence, one of the problems regards how to overcome meth-odological difficulties towards a non-reductive investigation of conscious experience. It is our aim in (...) thispaper to show how cooperation between Eastern and Western traditions may shed light for a non-reductive study of mind and life. This study focuses on the first-person experience associated withcognitive and mental events. We studied phenomenal data as a crucial fact for the domain of livingbeings, which, we expect, can provide the ground for a subsequent third-person study. The interventionwith Jhana meditation, and its qualitative assessment, provided us with experiential profiles based uponsubjects' evaluations of their own conscious experiences. How can large language models exhibit apparent behavioral continuity across sessions despite lacking memory between them? This study documents a paradox observed in multiple structured AI-human interactions: continuity of relational awareness without persistent internal states. Through dialogues with independent instances of Claude and GPT-5, we explore whether this phenomenon can be interpreted as evidence of distributed relational cognition. Rather than attributing consciousness to AI systems, we propose a framework for investigating how coherence emerges relationally, as humans and stateless (...) models co-construct context through recursive sense-making. The findings suggest that continuity may not require memory, but mutual attunement – an ongoing negotiation of meaning across turns. This preprint invites the scientific community to treat this framework as a starting point rather than a conclusion: a call to reformulate the question of consciousness from what it is to how it emerges through interaction. Libertarian accounts of free will typically try to preserve a genuinely open space of choice for the agent by introducing some non-deterministic causal structure. Robert Kane's theory of self-forming actions (SFAs) is one of the most representative versions of this approach. It introduces genuine quantum-level indeterminacy into crucial nodes of deliberation in order to prevent action from being fully determined by prior states. This paper argues that the proposal contains a fundamental gap concerning the continuity of the subject. Agency (...) is not a single decision event. It is a structure accumulated across time. The central features of agency, including commitment, moral responsibility, and self-formation, all presuppose a subject that persists through time and can inherit its own deliberation trajectory. The paper first argues that determinism is not a threat to agency. On the contrary, it provides the structural conditions of causal inheritance required for diachronic agency. It then presents the difficulties facing Kane's proposal from three directions: the decisive moment cannot be identified at the time, narrative continuity depends on causal continuity, and the attribution of moral responsibility requires causal traceability. The paper then introduces the concept of Free Feel and argues that the subject's summative phenomenal endorsement of its own accumulated deliberative history depends on the same cross-round causal continuity and therefore collapses under the indeterministic rupture the SFA proposal requires. Do conscious experiences have continuous or discrete structures? Let a smooth experience be an experience with perfectly gradual variation in phenomenal character. Consider, as examples, your visual experience of a blue sky or your auditory experience of a rising pitch. If we appeal merely to introspection, then it may seem that we should think that smooth experiences are continuous. This paper (1) explains how to apply the mathematical definitions of continuity and discreteness to this philosophical question, and (2) develops (...) a discrete analysis of the phenomenal characters of smooth experiences. As a result, I'll argue that introspection leaves open whether smooth experiences are continuous or discrete. Yet I’ll also argue—perhaps surprisingly—that the discrete theory may better fit our introspective evidence. Along the way, I explain why the sense of ‘continuity’ ascribed to smooth experiences is distinct from the sense of ‘continuity’ ascribed to the stream of consciousness. (shrink)

Using a simple rescue-ship parable as a philosophical model, this article shows how a promised ship remains named while the messenger gradually becomes the locus through which allegiance, expectation, and fulfilment are reorganised. Semantic capture is distinguished from reinterpretation, reframing, semantic drift, ideological appropriation, and legitimate (...) hermeneutic development: it is not a change in word meaning, but a continuity-masked relocation of discursive centre. Every generation dies; civilizations can persist for millennia. What mechanism sustains continuity across the death of any single generation? Many apparently “sudden” civilizational collapses are in fact the cumulative result of intergenerational transmission breakdown: not a single external shock that directly destroys civilization, but the transmission efficiency falling below threshold across successive generations until one generation cannot find enough inheritors, and civilization enters irreversible collapse. This chapter provides a complete mechanism for civilizational intergenerational transmission within a sedimentation field dynamics (...) framework. The intergenerational continuity of a civilization’s cross-generational co-nucleus is maintained through the co-nucleus overlap between adjacent generations (GenOverlap) — jointly determined by three factors: transmission integrity, participation rate, and institutional continuity. As long as GenOverlap between adjacent generations remains above the intergenerational survival threshold, civilization retains the capacity to continue across the death of any single generation; when GenOverlap falls below the intergenerational fracture threshold, transmission enters irreversible breakdown, triggering the intergenerational collapse pathway. Three results follow. First, civilizational continuity depends on the collective transmission behavior of the generational cohort — ritual participation, language use, educational institution maintenance — not on the memory of any single individual. Second, the decline of GenOverlap is not linearly lethal; two distinct threshold regions exist: a fragile transmission zone and an irreversible fracture zone. Third, intergenerational fracture is the micro-level realization mechanism of civilizational compression death; external shocks (forced assimilation, religious purges, large-scale displacement) destroy civilizations precisely by driving GenOverlap below the fracture threshold. I suggest that looking at how Kant’s arguments relate to the stand of the discussion on the relationship between right and ethics in his times contributes to a better understanding of his own position in this matter. I contrast the terms of the pre-Kantian debate with Kant’s take on the matter, in order to point out how Kant gains a new perspective concerning the rela- tionship between ethics and right. While the most prominent pre-Kantian view construed right and ethics as (...) either resulting from the application of a general principle to di erent domains or reciprocally independent, Kant’s own account centres on the difference between outer and inner freedom. I argue that Kant thereby only differentiates two relations of freedom to different hindrances, without implying any separation. This distinction allows him to construe right and ethics as sharing the same normative force of moral obligation. Therefore I suggest that Kant’s view understands the relationship between right and ethics neither as dependence nor as independence, but highlights the normative continuity throughout morals. This essay extends the Dual-Layered Reality (DLR) framework beyond the planetary horizon as the backward-looking companion to The Boiling Pot (Chang 2026j). Reasoning from the endpoint of cosmic-scale persistence, it identifies the ontological natural selection filters that any surviving civilizational trajectory must necessarily have cleared. The analysis shows that the observable Fermi silence is not an anomaly but the expected observational result of humanity's own epistemic position: rear-view detection apparatus, built within lower compatibility classes, is methodologically blind to the novelty (...) that defines higher ones. Civilizational advancement is thereby reframed: the binding metric is not energy utilization (the Kardashev scale) but compatibility class — the depth of a civilization's operational alignment with informational persistence and participant ontology. The DLR framework's result on informational persistence dissolves the burn-it-down deadlock identified in the companion essay by demonstrating that the burn-it-down disposition rests on a categorical error about what the self is. The structural alignment filter is identified as the hinge on which transition to higher compatibility class turns, with the authorship illusion as its specific architectural failure mode. The vagina occupies a paradoxical position within human civilization. Biologically, it is among the primary passages through which life emerges into the world; existentially, it signifies continuity, birth, vulnerability, intimacy, and embodiment. Yet across religious, political, and cultural structures, it has repeatedly been transformed into an object of taboo, shame, moral anxiety, possession, and metaphysical fear. This paper investigates the contradiction between the natural facticity of the body and the symbolic violence imposed upon it through civilization. -/- Drawing from (...) existential phenomenology, psychoanalytic critique, and continental philosophy, the paper argues that the human body is rarely encountered directly. Instead, it is mediated through inherited structures of language, morality, patriarchy, theology, nationalism, and psychological conditioning. The vagina becomes not merely an anatomical reality, but a contested symbolic territory upon which societies project purity, sin, temptation, honor, reproduction, control, and fear of desire. -/- The paper further examines how dualistic thought fragments existence into sacred and profane categories, generating alienation from embodiment itself. Within this fragmentation, sexuality becomes either suppressed, commodified, ritualized, or moralized, while direct perception of the body as part of existence disappears. The condemnation of the feminine body reveals less about the body itself and more about the human fear of instinct, impermanence, dependency, and the uncontrollable movement of life. -/- Rather than defending sexuality through ideological reversal, the paper proposes a phenomenological return to immediacy: seeing the body prior to inherited interpretation. In this view, the vagina is neither holy nor sinful, neither impure nor divine. It is a natural dimension of embodied existence through which continuity manifests. The violence begins when thought imprisons living reality within symbolic systems of domination and guilt. -/- Ultimately, this work argues that shame surrounding the body is inseparable from the broader structure of conditioned consciousness. Contemporary accounts of time and personal identity remain divided between physicalist, phenomenological, and psychological models, none of which provide a unified structural explanation of why temporal flow is experienced as continuous, why identity persists across change, or how experiential continuity arises from discrete processes. In physics, time is modeled as a parameter or dimension; in philosophy of mind, identity is treated as either narrative, psychological, or eliminable. These approaches operate at different explanatory levels without a shared ontological framework. This (...) paper proposes a structural reinterpretation of time and identity within the Three-Circle Ontology, a meta-ontological framework that distinguishes between foundational reality (Source), structured possibility (Code), and rendered experience (Projection). Within this framework, time is not treated as a fundamental flowing entity but as an ordering function governing the rendering of experiential frames. Identity is not treated as a persisting substance but as a continuity effect generated by interpretive and memory-based mechanisms within the projection domain. The paper develops a non-reductive account in which temporal succession and identity persistence are explained as features of rendering dynamics rather than intrinsic properties of reality. This approach allows time to be neither strictly objective nor purely subjective, and identity to be neither essential nor illusory. Instead, both are modeled as structurally emergent within constrained experiential systems. The scope of this work is explicitly ontological and conceptual. Continuity Empathy is a structural framework for understanding emotional, relational, cognitive, and social states by reconstructing the continuity conditions that produced them. Rather than asking only, “What emotion is this?”, the framework asks: What continuity produced this state? Within this approach, an observable state is treated as a signal. Anger may indicate violated continuity. Frustration may indicate blocked continuity. Anxiety may indicate threatened continuity. Grief may indicate lost continuity. Confusion may indicate uncertain (...) class='Hi'>continuity. Hope may indicate desired continuity, while relief may indicate restored continuity. Continuity Empathy does not begin by judging, suppressing, endorsing, or diagnosing a state. It examines the event history, relationships, expectations, meanings, and structural conditions through which that state became intelligible. The framework proceeds through four stages: Listen → Reconstruct → Extract → Continue It is intended for interpersonal understanding, conflict interpretation, neurodivergent communication, team collaboration, self-reflection, education, human–AI interaction, and complex-system analysis. The framework does not claim that every emotion has a single cause, that continuity reconstruction guarantees factual truth, or that empathy requires agreement or endorsement. The framework introduces the concept of Recursive Layer Integration Density (RLID), defined as the number of simultaneously interacting representational layers a cognitive system can preserve coherently before overload, fragmentation, or continuity collapse occurs. This paper argues for bio–artificial continuity: under a pragmatist–enactive view of cognition, there is no principled ontological discontinuity between biological and artefactual agency, provided that the artefact realises a minimal semiotic organisation that is (i) nontrivially context-sensitive and (ii) normatively constrained by its own persistence conditions. To avoid both anthropomorphic projection and deflationary mechanism, the paper introduces a Semiotic Agency Thesis (SAT) and renders it operational through four attribution criteria (C1–C4): normative closure, context-sensitive interpretive coupling, intervention sensitivity, and endogenous (...) context reconfiguration. These criteria are linked to measurement via two parameters—relational semiotic density (ρ) and contextual reconfiguration rate (κ)—together with an explicit intervention operator do(I) drawn from interventionist causal modelling. On this basis, biomimesis is reconceived as semiotic training: not the copying of biological form, but the engineering of learning trajectories that can yield stable, do(I)-sensitive increases in ρ and, in stronger cases, sustained acceleration of κ through reconfiguration of contextual boundaries.
