Biogeochemistry has traditionally been grounded in a substance-based ontology, modeling ecosystem dynamics through discrete nutrient pools and linear fluxes. While such frameworks have advanced our understanding of carbon, methane, and phosphorus cycling, they often obscure the dynamic, relational, and emergent character of biogeochemical processes. This paper introduces a process-ontological framework for biogeochemistry that reconceptualizes elemental transformations not as state transitions between static compartments but as evolving networks of interdependent processes. Drawing on process philosophy, complexity theory, and resilience science, we articulate (...) four foundational principles (relationality, scale dependence, temporal continuity, and emergence) that underpin a processual understanding of biogeochemical systems. Through empirical cases focused on methane and phosphorus cycling, we demonstrate how process ontology informs both modeling strategies and governance practices, including the detection of early warning signals, policy design, and cross-scale management of tipping points. Rather than replacing substance-based approaches, this framework complements them, revealing their underlying metaphysical assumptions and situating them within a broader ontology of dynamic interdependence. It also emphasizes the epistemic–ontological reciprocity of scientific practice, in which conceptual frameworks and empirical observation iteratively refine one another. By embedding ontological reflection within empirical and governance contexts, this work contributes to a broader rethinking of how scientific models mediate between conceptual frameworks and ecological realities, supporting adaptive, transformative and process-aware strategies for environmental management. This essay considers the connections between, on the one hand, two kinds of justification, namely pragmatic and alethic, and on the other hand two cognitive systems, S1 and S2.

This paper explores the consequences of taking absolute nothingness seriously: a state characterised by the absence of objects, laws, time, modality, logic, and any structure capable of enforcing restriction. It argues that instantiation cannot be excluded under conditions of absolute nothingness; consequently, finite limitation, non-instantiation, and modal restriction are not default positions and require justification. In the absence of any restricting structure, maintaining a principled distinction between what is merely plausible and what is instantiated becomes untenable. The paper therefore advances (...) a conditional but robust thesis: unbounded (potentially infinite) instantiation represents the least arbitrary metaphysical stance, even though finite instantiation remains logically possible. Implications for cosmology, logic, and existential questions (including God‑like entities and post‑biological continuations) are briefly explored. (shrink)

A prevalent modelling ideal in theory of mind (ToM) treats attitude attribution as a contextindependent assignment of determinate truth-values to a fixed stock of attributed answers. We formalize this ideal as the existence of a global section of the event presheaf over a cover of jointly answerable attribution-queries, in the sense of the sheaf-theoretic semantics of contextuality [1]. Using a parity (Mermin–Peres) configuration [4] as a combinatorial witness of Kochen–Specker-type no-go structure [3], we prove that there exist finite ToM-attribution scenarios (...) in which every context admits classical (bivalent) assignments satisfying its internal coherence constraints, yet no global assignment exists. The obstruction is strong contextuality: no global section is compatible with all local supports [1]. We then delineate two conservative repairs that preserve within-context classicality while rejecting global bivalence: presheaf-local semantics for attributed attitudes and an internal (Heyting) semantics over the context poset, in the spirit of topos-theoretic quantum logic [2, 5]. Public Announcement Logic (PAL), as a paradigmatic fragment of Dynamic Epistemic Logic (DEL), implements information change by model restriction; under probabilistic semantics this reduces to classical conditioning and therefore yields commutative sequential update (up to conjunction of announced events). By contrast, the minimal Lüders instrument for sharp quantum yes/no questions induces noncommutative state dynamics whenever the associated projectors fail to commute, generating order effects. We formalize PAL updates as conditioning endomorphisms on Boolean event algebras and Lüders updates as completely positive (...) trace-preserving maps on density operators. We prove: (i) all PAL-style fixed-meaning announcement updates commute whenever both orders are defined; (ii) Lüders channels commute on all states if and only if the underlying projectors commute; (iii) consequently, no PAL-style conditioning semantics with context-independent proposition identity can represent Lüders order effects while preserving sequential composition. A conservative embedding theorem is provided: restricting to an abelian algebra generated by commuting projectors, Lüders update collapses to classical conditioning, recovering PAL as a commutative subtheory. This paper philosophically examines the impact of generative artificial intelligence on learning processes from the perspective of extended cognition. The central problem addressed is how these technologies can transform students into passive or active learners, influencing the development of cognitive skills. It will be argued that generative artificial intelligence presents risks of diminishing cognitive activity among students, as it is likely to substitute—rather than complement—the cognitive subject. It will also be argued that there are ways to leverage generative artificial intelligence (...) so that learners are not passive but rather active cognitive subjects. Three cases will be presented, with empirical support, to show how this leveraging is possible: the production of feedback, assistive technologies, and gamification. In these cases, generative artificial intelligence is a complementary cognitive artifact rather than a substitutive one. To achieve this goal, the paper presents the framework of the extended mind thesis as a conducive scenario for analyzing the relationship between generative artificial intelligence and learning contexts, and it analyzes specific cases of science education. An analysis of the types of cognitive artifacts will also be conducted to examine how generative artificial intelligence intervenes in learning in both substitute and complementary ways. (shrink)

El objetivo del presente trabajo es reflexionar sobre el pensamiento heideggeriano, principalmente en torno al concepto de Ereignis, el cual puede encontrarse con múltiples traducciones, las principales de ellas: acaecimiento, evento, acontecimiento, suceso, etc. Analizaremos el devenir del concepto en el pensamiento del filósofo alemán, como también la relevancia del mismo en su filosofía del lenguaje. Para finalizar, abordaremos la importancia del concepto de Evento (Ereignis), no solo en el lenguaje sino también en la dimensión histórica del Dasein. The aim (...) of this paper is to reflect on heideggerian thought, mainly around the concept of Ereignis, which can be found with multiple translations, the main ones of which are: occurrence, event, happening, occurrence, etc. We will analyze the development of the concept in the German philosopher's thought, as well as its relevance in his philosophy of language. This study delved into the perceptions of Mathematics’ student teachers regarding the implementation of gamification in secondary schools at Nasugbu, Batangas. This research investigates the rising global trend of implementing gamification in education, particularly in Mathematics teaching, to address contemporary learner needs by examining student teachers' use of gamified activities, their design factors, encountered challenges, and perceived benefits. Purposive sampling was utilized in a multiple-case study approach to select ten (10) secondary school Mathematics’ student teachers engaged in practice teaching in (...) Nasugbu, Batangas. Qualitative findings revealed common gamified activities employed by student teachers, emphasizing the importance of student-centered design, alignment with learning objectives, student engagement, assessment, and adaptation to the classroom context. Challenges faced by student teachers in integrating gamification included technical limitations, sustaining engagement, time management, and addressing diverse learning styles. Despite these challenges, integrating gamification showed benefits such as increased engagement, improved learning outcomes, reduced math anxiety, and enhanced attitudes towards Mathematics. In conclusion, gamified activities play a significant role in enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes in Mathematics classrooms. The findings suggest student teachers to explore and integrate gamified activities into Mathematics lessons to create engaging environments supporting student success. (shrink)

El avance tecnológico de los últimos años nos lleva a imaginar un futuro, no muy lejano, donde los sistemas tecnológicos y la inteligencia artificial (AI) supere a la inteligencia humana (HI), inclusive con la capacidad de auto generarse, denominando ésto como Singularidad Tecnológica. Razón por lo cual surge la posibilidad de fusión entre ambas inteligencias, dando lugar así al surgimiento de Cyborgs o Post Humanos y la llegada de lo que los expertos han dado en llamar Transhumanismo. Me planteo reflexionar (...) sobre esta posibilidad con el fin de analizar las posibles consecuencias que traería consigo una super inteligencia dura. -/- The technological advance of recent years leads us to imagine a future, not too distant, where technological systems and artificial intelligence (AI) surpass human intelligence (HI), even with the ability to self-generate, calling this as Singularity Technological. Reason why the possibility of merging between the two intelligences arises, thus giving rise to the emergence of Cyborgs or Post Humans and the arrival of, what experts have called, Transhumanism. In the years after 1919, Heidegger began to call for a “deconstruction” (Abbau) or “destruction” (Destruktion) of Western intellectual traditions in an attempt to “save culture.” He proposed that the “deconstruction” and “destruction” of intellectual traditions should proceed from a re-examination of the original Greek interpretation of Being, which had been misunderstood completely and utterly trivialized. From hereon, he began to articulate Being within the sphere of the world; Being as unveiled and revealed in Dasein. But the investigation of Being (...) did not stop in Being and Time. The meaning of Being lies in occurrence, that is, that the gods are not extant characters, but rather figures of remembrance and expectation. Only in dasein’s moment of existential longing can god be really empty of any claim and intention. This opens us to the “Last God” of the Contributions. (shrink)

The idea behind this work is to demonstrate that Western logocentrism hegemonizes in the same process of individuation. Analyze the evolution of the body through the texts would be to make a deconstruction of the capitalist system and the current market society. Undoubtedly, this system is the consecration of the idea of individual that was increasing along multiple events and allows us, not only review the appearance of the subject as such, but also as appearance of the individualism as cultural (...) current. Also it allows us to observe how they were giving various processes of individuation and like some factors have become higher hierarchies were imposed on others, which were relegated, hidden, denied. B) Νέων | Κοσίλ[λω]; Inscr. 2, Νικ̣α[- - -] | Διογ[νήτω ?]; Inscr. 3, [- - -] | [- - -]δα. La primera inscripción presenta los nombres de dos difuntos, dos hermanos (...) hijos de Cosilo. El nombre Κόσιλλος aparece en Creta, aparte de esta inscripción, en Eliro en Creta Occidental en el s. II a.C. Fuera de Creta este nombre no ha sido atestiguado en ninguna otra parte. En la tercera inscripción se han conservado las dos letras finales del nombre del padre en la segunda línea. The traditional approach in cognitive sciences holds that cognition is a matter of manipulating abstract symbols followingcertain rules. According to this view, the body is merely an input/output device, which allows the computationalsystem—the brain—to acquire new input data by means of the senses and to act in the environment following its com-mands. In opposition to this classical view, defenders of embodied cognition (EC) stress the relevance of the body inwhich the cognitive agent is embedded in their explanation of cognitive processes. (...) From a representationalist frameworkregarding our conscious experience, in this article, I will offer a novel argument in favor of EC and show that cognitionconstitutively—and no merely causally—depends upon body activity beyond that in the brain. In particular, I will arguethat in order to solve the problem derived from the empirical evidence in favor of the possibility of shifted spectrum,representationalist should endorse the view that experiences concern its subject: the content of experience isde se.Ishow that this claim perfectly matches the phenomenological observation and helps explaining the subjective characterof the experience. Furthermore, I argue that entertaining this kind of representation constitutively depends on bodilyactivity. Consequently, insofar as cognition depends on consciousness, it is embodied. (shrink)

Title: The Code of Life: Cartographic Language — A Unified Theory of Language, Consciousness, and Ethics Abstract: This work advances the thesis that language, knowledge, ethics, and identity are not separate domains but cross-sections of a single continuous process: a conscious subject encounters reality, compresses that encounter through valued elimination, names the result, and is in turn constituted by what it has named. The theory rests on three structural claims. First, every concept is a triadic product of subject, object, and (...) relation — multiplicative in structure, such that if any component reaches zero, the concept collapses entirely. Second, comprehension operates by elimination rather than accumulation: value is not a post-hoc judgment applied to neutral data but the constitutive criterion without which no distinction could be drawn and no concept could form. Third, the map the subject constructs is not a representation of the subject — it is the subject. There is no operative self behind the concepts; the concepts are the self, and to modify the map is to modify the person. From these axioms, the paper derives a unified account of semantics, epistemology, ethics, psychology, and political economy as aspects of one event. It further derives a structural definition of anxiety as directionless mental energy arising from failure of the Decision Function D = f(K, V, T), and of logic as the verification function by which the self maintains its own coherence. The system is self-grounding: its central claims are tested by operative negation — denial of any core thesis reinstates the conditions that produce it. This paper argues that artificial intelligence, regardless of its computational power or structural sophistication, will never attain true consciousness. Drawing from a hierarchical metaphysical model of the psyche, the argument centers on the claim that consciousness is not the product of increased complexity but arises through ontological transformations that AI cannot undergo. The psyche is described as evolving through a series of qualitative leaps—from the lawful regularity of matter (Elemental Psyche), through biological life and cognition, to metacognitive self-awareness. While AI (...) can simulate processes associated with higher levels of consciousness, it remains structurally confined to the Elemental Psyche—non-living, non-experiential matter governed by causal determinism. The paper critiques both eliminative materialism and strong functionalism for conflating simulation with instantiation and for overlooking the existential and biological conditions under which consciousness arises. It further argues that consciousness in biological organisms is inextricably tied to embodiment, evolutionary continuity, emotional depth, and the existential drive for survival (conatus). These features are not externally programmable but emerge through an integrated dialectical development across ontological levels. Ultimately, the study challenges the metaphysical assumptions behind current models of conscious AI, emphasizing that subjective experience cannot be reduced to information processing or emergent behavior in silicon-based systems. Consciousness is not merely a function of structure or behavior but is rooted in a mode of being that AI fundamentally lacks. Therefore, despite its ability to mimic intelligent behavior, AI will remain a tool—never a subject of experience. (shrink)

The CRISPR system for gene editing can break, repair, and replace targeted sections of DNA. Although CRISPR gene editing has important therapeutic potential, it raises several ethical concerns. Some bioethicists worry CRISPR is a prelude to a dystopian future, while others maintain it should not be feared because it is analogous to past biotechnologies. In the scientific literature, CRISPR is often discussed as a revolutionary technology. In this paper we unpack the framing of CRISPR as a revolutionary technology and contrast (...) it with framing it as a value-threatening biotechnology or business-as-usual. By drawing on a comparison between CRISPR and the Ford Model T, we argue CRISPR is revolutionary as a product, process, and as a force for social change. This characterization of CRISPR offers important conceptual clarity to the existing debates surrounding CRISPR. In particular, conceptualizing CRISPR as a revolutionary technology structures regulatory goals with respect to this new technology. Revolutionary technologies have characteristic patterns of implementation, entrenchment, and social impact. As such, early identification of technologies as revolutionary may help construct more nuanced and effective ethical frameworks for public policy. (shrink)

Una importante amenaza para la comunicación intercultu-ral es el relativismo: la idea de que cada cultura es tan diferente a las demás que resulta imposible entender nada de una de ellas desde cualquier otra. Se trata, de hecho, de una noción que cobró cierto éxito en diversas áreas del saber durante el siglo XX. Para oponerse a ella, los filósofos a menudo han intentado encontrar qué es lo que sí tienen todas las culturas en común, con el propósito de que (...) sirva de punto de apoyo para la comprensión mutua. En este artículo, empero, intentamos mostrar cómo cabe refutar las ideas del relativismo sin tener a la vez que comprometerse con una u otra idea de lo que presunta-mente puedan tener todas las culturas en común. El pensamiento de Richard Rorty será el que nos sirva de guía para ello. Veremos por qué, según este autor, el relativismo puede considerarse en realidad una idea incomprensible y, por tanto, que puede ser abandonada; y por qué, aunque nos confesemos etnocéntricos (como él se confesaba), ello no nos cierra a la comunicación con otras culturas, sino que, bien al con-trario, nos invita a entenderlas y a ampliar con ello nuestra propia comprensión de nosotros mismos. El uso de argumentos filosóficos tomados tanto de la epistemología elaborada por Donald Davidson, como de la historia del liberalismo político, nos resultarán fecundos en ambos empeños. (shrink)

Is there a notion of domain specificity which affords genuine insight in the context of the highly modular mind, i.e. a mind which has not only input modules, but also central ‘conceptual’ modules? Our answer to this question is no. The main argument is simple enough: we lay out some constraints that a theoretically useful notion of domain specificity, in the context of the highly modular mind, would need to meet. We then survey a host of accounts of what domain (...) specificity is, based on the intuitive idea that a domain specific mechanism is restricted in the kind of information that it processes, and show that each fails at least one of those constraints. In this paper I will defend the idea of the success of post-truth as one of the main features of hypermodernity. In order to understand such a claim, I will start by defining “post-truth” and showing the key differences that separate it from simple manipulation or lies. I will explain how post-truth characterizes a whole new way of understanding the difference between truth and falsity: a new attitude of indifference to the sharp distinction that moderns and ancients had placed between (...) these two notions. I will contend that this new attitude had been announced by the work of at least three recent philosophers: Harry Frankfurt, Gianni Vattimo and Mario Perniola. They give different names to “post-truth”, though, and attribute it to different causes (from anti-intellectualism to the new media and to sheer carelessness). After that, I will explore how two key aspects of hypermodernity (according to Gilles Lipovetsky), i.e. hyperindividualism and hyperconsumption, cohere with this spread of post-truth. Finally, I will summarily refer to some political and geopolitical events that corroborate the relevance of post-truth in our hypermodern world. (shrink)

We intend to analyze the plausibility of the two kind of ethical justifications that are most commonly used in order to defend the concept of an “intellectual property” of copyrights. Firstly, we will examine justifications of property based on natural law, like the one originally provided by John Locke. We will argue, with the help of authors like Lysander Spooner, that the same arguments that Locke uses for property in general are entirely applicable to intellectual property, although this is certainly (...) a peculiar kind of property. Secondly, we will examine whether or not we can apply to intellectual property the same two arguments that Utilitarian authors use for justifying property in general: the “tragedy of the commons” argument and the scarcity argument. We will claim that the first one is fully pertinent here, and that the second one is not: but this is a problem of that kind of justification of property in general, and not a problem of intellectual property as such. Our interest here will be limited to decide how we could use the philosophy of Wittgenstein to oppose Marxist theorizations. We will not imply, thus, that Wittgenstein himself made that use or wanted anybody else to make it. Our focus here is not Wittgenstein’s possible intentions against Marxism, but his implications against it. We have found five possible implications of this kind. The first one links his private language argument and Ludwig von Mises’ argument about why Marxists fail in determining (...) prices. The second one goes from that very private language argument to a liberal argument against the dictatorship of proletariat. The third is a skeptical argument for participatory democracy that undermines some of Marx’s ideas about power. Finally, the fourth and fifth implications use Wittgenstein’s philosophy against the Marxist ideas of an essential divide in society and a common human progress, respectively. (shrink)
