The classical and widely received Popperian theory of falsification operates with an idealized binary picture of scientific rationality, according to which a theory is in principle undermined by a conflicting observation (Popper [1934] 1959). Even though Popper himself acknowledges methodological side conditions, this binary-eliminative structure remains too coarse for analyzing modern modeling practice. Models such as Newtonian mechanics, classical thermodynamics, or contemporary climate models are empirically limited in certain subdomains yet remain epistemically indispensable in others. -/- This paper develops (...) an integrative framework of model validity as a philosophy-of-science specialization of model management under finite conditions. It combines insights from Popper, Kuhn, Lakatos, da Costa/French, and contemporary model theory; distinguishes global from contextual falsification; and introduces the epistemic enabling space E(t). E(t) renders explicit the methodological, technical, and institutional conditions under which models can be formulated, tested, stabilized, and replaced by alternatives. -/- "Falsification" is understood here not as a purely logical criterion of truth or falsity but as a rational-pragmatic mechanism of model evaluation. The decisive issue is not merely whether a model's performance declines in a given domain, but whether available alternatives within the same relevant domain prove stably more epistemically competitive over time. The proposed reconstructive evaluative structure links approximate truth, explanatory power, and model costs without treating scientific rationality as generally algorithmically computable. A case study of climate models illustrates how ensemble methods, parameterizations, and probabilistic weighting procedures contribute to domain refinement. The theory thereby reconstructs central structures of modern modeling practice and explains why models remain stable despite partial falsifications, when they are revised, and under which conditions global model replacement occurs. Karl Popper rightly contests the possibility of a verification of basic statements. At the same time he strictly believes in the possibility of growth of empirical knowledge. Knowledge growth, however, is only possible if empirical theories can be falsified. This raises the question, how theories can be falsified, if a verification of those statements that falsify theories – i.e. basic statements – is not possible. This problem is often referred to as the “basic problem” or “problem of the empirical basis”. (...) In this paper I show that – from a logical point of view – a falsification of theories is possible without a verification of basic state-ments. Furthermore I show that knowledge growth in the empirical sciences will be possible if two assumptions are valid. These assumptions can neither be proven nor falsified. A scientific theory, according to Popper, can be legitimately saved from falsification by introducing an auxiliary hypothesis to generate new, falsifiable predictions. Also, if there are suspicions of bias or error, the researchers might introduce an auxiliary falsifiable hypothesis that would allow testing. But this technique can not solve the problem in general, because any auxiliary hypothesis can be challenged in the same way, ad infinitum. To solve this regression, Popper introduces the idea of ​​a basic statement, an empirical (...) statement that can be used both to determine whether a given theory is falsifiable and, if necessary, to corroborate falsification assumptions. Papers 103, 122, and 123 establish that the persistence problem induces its admissibility regime (C1–C3), the unique admissible persistence structure is IR = R/(F·M·K) ≤ 1, and no alternative formulation of persistence exists outside trivialization, indeterminacy, or structural equivalence. This paper addresses a different question: what would be required to falsify La Profilée? The result is precise: any successful falsification must target one of a small set of structural points. Each point imposes a strong constraint — either the persistence (...) problem itself collapses, or a contradiction must be demonstrated within a formally derived necessity, or a counterexample must violate a cross-domain invariant. Karl Popper’s criterion of falsifiability is a standard answer to the demarcation problem, but it abstracts away from the computational limits of the agents who carry out falsification. This paper re-examines demarcation through the lens of recursion theory. Assuming the Weak Computational Theory of Mind—on which falsification is an algorithmic process— and introducing an “empirical embedding” of the Halting Problem, we model the collective scientific enterprise as a Universal Falsifier. We show that the hypothesis that all false empirical (...) propositions are falsifiable in finite time would make the set of non-halting Turing machines recursively enumerable and, by Post’s Theorem, the Halting Problem decidable, contradicting computability theory. Thus, there must be false empirical propositions that are in-principle falsifiable but algorithmically undecidable, yielding a “computational horizon” for scientific discovery. We distinguish this principled limit of undecidability from limits of computational complexity, arguing that the former marks a logical boundary independent of resource constraints and poses a challenge to convergent scientific realism. We information-theoretically reformulate two measures of capacity from statistical learning theory: empirical VC-entropy and empirical Rademacher complexity. We show these capacity measures count the number of hypotheses about a dataset that a learning algorithm falsifies when it finds the classifier in its repertoire minimizing empirical risk. It then follows from that the future performance of predictors on unseen data is controlled in part by how many hypotheses the learner falsifies. As a corollary we show that empirical VC-entropy quantifies the message (...) length of the true hypothesis in the optimal code of a particular probability distribution, the so-called actual repertoire. Two main cognitive theories predict that people find refuting evidence that falsifies their theorising difficult, if not impossible to consider, even though such reasoning may be pivotal to grounding their everyday thoughts in reality (i.e., Poletiek, 1996; Klayman & Ha, 1987). In the classic 2-4-6 number sequence task devised by psychologists to test such reasoning skills in a simulated environment – people fail the test more often than not. In the 2-4-6 task participants try to discover what rule the number (...) triple 2-4-6 conforms to. The rule is ‘ascending numbers’, but it is tricky to discover this rule. Participants tend to generate hypotheses with the properties of the 2-4-6 triple, for example, ‘even numbers ascending in twos’. They must search for evidence to test whether their hypothesis is the rule. But experimental evidence has shown that they tend to generate confirming triples that they expect to be consistent with their hypothesis rather than inconsistent falsifying triples. Counter to the two main hypothesis testing theories this paper demonstrates that falsification is possible in five 2-4-6 task experiments when participants consider an Imaginary Participant’s hypothesis. Experiment 1 and 2 show that competition with an opponent hypothesis tester facilitates falsification. Experiments 3 to 5 show that the consideration of an alternative hypothesis helps this falsification of hypotheses lead to rule discovery. The implications of the results for theories of hypothesis testing and reasoning are discussed. (shrink)

A central challenge in contemporary cognitive science is to explain how structured, symbol-like processes emerge from the stochastic dynamics of neural collectives. The Principia Cognitia (PC) framework offers a substrate-independent formalism, positing a duality between an internal Metalanguage of Cognition (MLC)—a high-dimensional vector space of semions, operations, and relations (⟨S,O,R⟩)—and an External Language of Meaning (ELM) used for communication. This duality is formalized in the Theorem of Decoupling of Languages (TH-LANG-04), which predicts that MLC alignment is a necessary precondition for (...) effective communication. This paper presents a detailed methodological roadmap for the rigorous falsification of this theorem, designed to bridge the gap between abstract theory and empirical validation. We provide a complete, Tier-0 experimental program, including three coordinated protocols—MPE-1 (probing spatial MLC misalignment), SCIT-1 (testing cognitive inertia), and CRS-1 (examining compositional understanding). The protocols are specified with a degree of detail sufficient for full reproducibility on consumer-grade hardware, including agent architectures, training corpora, and quantitative falsification criteria. By offering this actionable blueprint, this work serves as an open invitation to the research community to replicate, challenge, and extend the empirical testing of the Principia Cognitia framework. Storytelling, Falsification and Belief explores one of the most urgent questions of the contemporary world: how language gradually transforms from a tool of (...) understanding into a machinery of persuasion. Moving through discourse theory, semiotics, advertising studies, philosophy, media criticism, and cultural analysis, this volume investigates the hidden architecture through which narratives shape perception and organize reality itself. At the center of this work lies the concept of the planned obsolescence of language—the idea that communication systems increasingly consume and replace meanings at accelerating speed. Words become unstable. Truth becomes fragmented. Symbols detach from reality and begin circulating independently as self-sustaining structures of belief. Within such conditions, communication ceases to function as a bridge between minds and becomes instead a battlefield where narratives compete for emotional dominance. This paper critically evaluates the classification of research-related fraudulent activities, with an emphasis on the specific misconduct falsification. The analysis begins by interrogating the assumption that all acts of fraud in research are intentional, suggesting that some instances may inadvertently arise during the course of scholarly activities. Misconducts like fabrication and falsification are categorized as fraudulent primarily due to their generation during research activities and their direct contribution to the distortion of scientific knowledge. Plagiarism, while deceptive, does not (...) necessarily originate from the research process nor lead directly to such distortion, and therefore is not classified as de facto fraud. The paper proposes that the definition of falsification – as established by the PHS – requires refinement to prevent wrongful allegations and convictions, enhance transparency, and offer clearer guidelines. This nuanced understanding is vital for safeguarding the credibility of the research process and protecting scientists from unfounded career-damaging accusations. Most philosophical and structural arguments fail at one of two opposite epistemic defects. The first defect is self-sealing: the argument is constructed so that no conceivable evidence can count as falsification, which produces rhetorical invulnerability at the cost of epistemic legitimacy. The second defect is unfalsifiability-by-vagueness: the argument is technically falsifiable but the falsification conditions are too imprecise to guide research or compel acknowledgment when they are met. The Popperian-Holmesian method is a two-step procedure that avoids both defects (...) simultaneously. Step 1 (Popperian): construct genuine falsification conditions — specific, independent, actionable exit conditions that would demonstrate the central claim is wrong, accompanied by the author’s unconditional advance commitment to acknowledge each. Step 2 (Holmesian): systematically evaluate each exit condition using available evidence, demonstrating through which closure mechanism each currently fails to obtain. The combined result is an argument that is epistemically open (any of its exits could in principle be opened by evidence) and epistemically forced (all currently available exits are demonstrably closed by internal logic, empirical record, or structural impossibility). The method shifts the burden of proof from the argument’s author to its critics: a critic who believes the argument is wrong must either open one of the existing exits with specific evidence meeting the stated standard, or identify a new exit the argument has not evaluated. The playbook this paper provides covers: the three standards for a genuine Popperian exit (specificity, independence, author commitment); the four closure mechanisms for Holmesian elimination (internal logic, empirical record, ALRP-class resonance impossibility, convergent independent confirmation); the four most common methodological errors; and the F6 invitation — the structural move that converts the argument from closed to genuinely open by inviting critics to supply exits the playbook has not addressed. Case studies are drawn from the Longevity Asymmetry Corpus (Huynh 2026a–t), in which the method was applied across five falsification conditions (F1–F5) with four distinct closure mechanisms and a documented unconditional author commitment. Contemporary approaches to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) rely predominantly on behavioral benchmarks, optimization performance, and scaling laws. This paper argues that such approaches are ontologically insufficient. Intelligence cannot be verified through behavior or task performance; it can only be falsified through the presence of forbidden ontological structures. We introduce the Ontological Test Suite (OTS), a set of falsification-based criteria designed to identify systems that are ontologically incapable of intelligence, regardless of their performance, creativity, or utility. Grounded in a minimal (...) process ontology (Metamonism CORE v1.3), we formalize intelligence as the continuous impossibility of final stabilization and introduce Unfold as a mandatory, non-representable rupture preventing cognitive selfidentity. OTS does not confirm AGI; it excludes non-AGI. This reframes the AGI problem as one of ontological viability rather than architectural ingenuity. (shrink)

La Profilée proposes a structural admissibility condition for determinate existence under real transformation: IR = R / (F · M · K) ≤ 1. This paper specifies the conditions under which this claim can be empirically tested, independently measured, and falsified. The goal is not to extend the theory, but to expose it to direct verification pressure. A structural law that cannot be falsified is not a law. This paper defines what would count as disconfirmation.

Can people consistently attempt to falsify, that is, search for refuting evidence, when testing the truth of hypotheses? Experimental evidence indicates that people tend to search for confirming evidence. We report two novel experiments that show that people can consistently falsify when it is the only helpful strategy. Experiment 1 showed that participants readily falsified somebody else’s hypothesis. Their task was to test a hypothesis belonging to an ‘imaginary participant’ and they knew it was a low quality hypothesis. Experiment 2 (...) showed that participants were able to falsify a low quality hypothesis belonging to an imaginary participant more readily than their own low quality hypothesis. The results have important implications for theories of hypothesis testing and human rationality. (shrink)

There are (at least) three approaches to quantifying information. The first, algorithmic information or Kolmogorov complexity, takes events as strings and, given a universal Turing machine, quantifies the information content of a string as the length of the shortest program producing it [1]. The second, Shannon information, takes events as belonging to ensembles and quantifies the information resulting from observing the given event in terms of the number of alternate events that have been ruled out [2]. The third, statistical learning (...) theory, has introduced measures of capacity that control (in part) the expected risk of classifiers [3]. These capacities quantify the expectations regarding future data that learning algorithms embed into classifiers. Solomonoff and Hutter have applied algorithmic information to prove remarkable results on universal induction. Shannon information provides the mathematical foundation for communication and coding theory. However, both approaches have shortcomings. Algorithmic information is not computable, severely limiting its practical usefulness. Shannon information refers to ensembles rather than actual events: it makes no sense to compute the Shannon information of a single string – or rather, there are many answers to this question depending on how a related ensemble is constructed. Although there are asymptotic results linking algorithmic and Shannon information, it is unsatisfying that there is such a large gap – a difference in kind – between the two measures. This note describes a new method of quantifying information, effective information, that links algorithmic information to Shannon information, and also links both to capacities arising in statistical learning theory [4, 5]. After introducing the measure, we show that it provides a non-universal analog of Kolmogorov complexity. We then apply it to derive basic capacities in statistical learning theory: empirical VC-entropy and empirical Rademacher complexity. A nice byproduct of our approach is an interpretation of the explanatory power of a learning algorithm in terms of the number of hypotheses it falsifies [6], counted in two different ways for the two capacities. Despite the criticism of Karl Popper's falsifiability theory for the demarcation between science and non-science, mainly pseudo-science, this criterion is still very useful, and perfectly valid after it was perfected by Popper and his followers. Moreover, even in his original version, considered by Lakatos as "dogmatic", Popper did not assert that this methodology is an absolute demarcation criterion: a single counter-example is not enough to falsify a theory; a theory can legitimately be saved from falsification by introducing an auxiliary (...) hypothesis. Compared to Kuhn's theory of revolutions, which he himself later dissociated from it transforming it into a theory of "micro-revolutions," I consider that Popper's demarcation methodology, along with the subsequent development proposed by him, including the corroboration and the verisimilitude, though imperfect, is not only valid today, but it is still the best demarcation methodology. For argumentation, I used the main works of Popper dealing with this issue, and his main critics and supporters. After a brief presentation of Karl Popper, and an introduction to the demarcation problem and the falsification methodology, I review the main criticisms and the arguments of his supporters, emphasizing the idea that Popper has never put the sign of equality between falsification and rejection. Finally, I present my own conclusions on this issue. This paper develops the runtime layer for Predictive Structural Intelligence. Whereas the accompanying predictive architecture defines breach hazard as a way to estimate whether contradiction is being metabolized into binding repair before structural debt, hidden-holder depletion, synthetic trace, and field pressure force contact in a harder form, this paper asks how such forecasts can be executed responsibly in public. Its central claim is that predictive SI becomes dependable only when breach-hazard claims are routed through an inspectable runtime: domain placement, observation (...) lock, time horizon, state classification, dashboard variables, burden-path mapping, hidden-holder analysis, falsifier, revision trigger, output state, downgrade rules, and falsification-ledger obligation. Without this discipline, predictive language can become SI-theater: a confident structural forecast that hides its evidence, claim status, or failure conditions. The paper defines a Predictive Runtime Sheet, a state sequence from Answerable to Fragmenting, dashboard variables such as drift velocity, contact half-life, contradiction recovery lag, repair velocity, hidden-holder dependence, burden export, maneuver saturation, hysteresis, synthetic trace risk, reader-capture risk, and active falsification timing. It also formalizes output states—Verified, Partial, Provisional, Blocked, Containment-first, and No predictive reading justified—and introduces a Falsification Ledger for recording failed, weakened, or revised forecasts. We present a self-contained account of classical gravity organized as two logically independent layers, with an explicit statement of which claims are forced, which are interpretive, and which are imported. In the first layer we take a symmetric rank-2 field h_μν on a flat background and impose one requirement, linearized gauge invariance. This uniquely fixes the Fierz-Pauli Lagrangian, forces exactly two transverse-traceless (helicity ±2) modes, and, through coupling to the full stress-energy tensor, fixes the post-Newtonian structure reproducing the classical solar-system (...) observables. Requiring the field to source itself produces, at second order, the gravitational stress-energy with an algebraically fixed coefficient; we compute this explicitly, recover the Isaacson energy density t₀₀ = (c⁴/32πG)⟨ḣ_ij ḣ^ij⟩, and verify the second-order Bianchi consistency symbolically. The all-orders closure to the Einstein-Hilbert action is the classic self-coupling theorem, cited rather than re-derived. The Longevity Asymmetry Corpus identifies F2 — preemptive international governance of longevity technology established before any intervention achieves a ten-year healthspan extension in human clinical trials — as the only currently open falsification condition for the corpus's central structural claim. The corpus also documents why F2 is unlikely: the Governance Paradox establishes that any governance body composed of actors with constitutive attachments to the governed technology faces a structural conflict of interest that eventually destroys its enforcement capacity, and the (...) ALRP establishes that governance and capability acceleration are coupled variables that cannot simultaneously satisfy the conditions F2 requires. This paper maps the F2 governance problem onto the Shogunal Governance framework developed in Huynh (2026v) to reveal the structural logic beneath both the possibility and the fragility of F2. The mapping proceeds as follows. Shogunal Governance is defined by five structural features: preserved native legitimacy, external possession of real power, governance through rather than parallel to native institutions, continuity of native institutions, and external veto authority. Each feature has a determinate analogue in the F2 governance context. Any F2 arrangement that achieves the three enforcement tests specified in Huynh (2026n) — override of a bilateral commercial contract, survival through administration change, enforcement against manufacturer legal challenge — takes the Shogunal form: it borrows legitimacy from existing treaty architecture while inserting a veto layer above it. The paper further demonstrates that each of the four Shogunal failure conditions maps onto a mechanism the corpus has already identified: Failure Condition 1 (native institutions used as resistance infrastructure) maps onto the ALRP's resonance structure; Failure Condition 2 (external actor overrides native legitimacy source directly) maps onto the Governance Paradox; Failure Condition 3 (veto overuse erodes native legitimacy) maps onto Reform Acceleration Paradox dynamics in the governance domain; and Failure Condition 4 (cooperation incentives change) maps onto the ARSI acceleration variable that changes every actor's calculation continuously. The structural implication is that F2, if it obtains, takes a form that is simultaneously the only structurally available form and the form most structurally prone to the failure conditions the Shogunal analysis predicts. Logical Probability (LP) is strictly distinguished from Statistical Probability (SP). To measure semantic information or confirm hypotheses, we need to use sampling distribution (conditional SP function) to test or confirm fuzzy truth function (conditional LP function). The Semantic Information Measure (SIM) proposed is compatible with Shannon’s information theory and Fisher’s likelihood method. It can ensure that the less the LP of a predicate is and the larger the true value of the proposition is, the more information there is. So the (...) SIM can be used as Popper's information criterion for falsification or test. The SIM also allows us to optimize the true-value of counterexamples or degrees of disbelief in a hypothesis to get the optimized degree of belief, i. e. Degree of Confirmation (DOC). To explain confirmation, this paper 1) provides the calculation method of the DOC of universal hypotheses; 2) discusses how to resolve Raven Paradox with new DOC and its increment; 3) derives the DOC of rapid HIV tests: DOC of “+” =1-(1-specificity)/sensitivity, which is similar to Likelihood Ratio (=sensitivity/(1-specificity)) but has the upper limit 1; 4) discusses negative DOC for excessive affirmations, wrong hypotheses, or lies; and 5) discusses the DOC of general hypotheses with GPS as example. We propose a minimal empirical framework for evaluating stabilization as a measurable constraint on representations in learning systems. Building on a previously defined stabilization functional, we operationalize stabilization in terms of representational coherence under transformations induced by learning dynamics, perturbations, and re-encodings. We derive testable hypotheses in machine learning settings, including continual learning, robustness under distribution shift, and representation compression. The framework does not assume a theory of cognition or a specific architectural model, but instead investigates whether stabilization correlates systematically (...) with robustness, compressibility, and degradation under sequential updates. The standard worry about a theory is that it might be false. The more revealing worry is that it might be unkillable. A theory that cannot be wrong is not thereby strong; it has merely arranged its commitments so that no possible observation counts against them, and that arrangement is usually invisible to the theory that made it. Popper called the line between the two demarcation and located it in falsifiable prediction; a theory earns its standing by forbidding something, by (...) exposing a flank the world could, in principle, turn against it. This is correct as far as it goes. It does not go far enough, because a theory can issue falsifiable predictions at its periphery while keeping its core perfectly insulated, conceding small empirical skirmishes and never once risking the proposition that actually animates it. Each day people are presented with circumstances that may require speculation. Scientists may ponder questions such as why a star is born or how rainbows are made, psychologists may ask social questions such as why people are prejudiced, and military strategists may imagine what the consequences of their actions might be. Speculations may lead to the generation of putative explanations called hypotheses. But it is by checking if hypotheses accurately reflect the encountered facts that lead to sensible behaviour demonstrating a (...) true understanding. If evidence shows a hypothesis to be false, then people should rationally abandon it, especially if there are negative consequences. The aim of this thesis is to examine how effectively people search for evidence in their hypothesis testing to test whether or not their hypotheses are true or false in competitive games. Research findings from six studies of hypothesis testing behaviour in competitive deductive tasks are explored. Chapter by chapter the thesis tests how everyday people, and master chess players, tackle hypothesis testing in mathematical tasks, such as how to solve sequential number sequence puzzles when thinking about an opponent, or how to solve chess problems in a variety of contexts. The implications of the results are discussed in light of aspects of general cognition: such as reasoning, social hypothesis testing and planning. (shrink)

A university may speak freely as a private actor. But if it seeks to define reality on behalf of the public using federal funding, tax exemption, and institutional authority, it must meet the legal threshold of truth based inquiry, not belief based classification. This Philosophy of Law paper extends the doctrine established in Bob Jones University v. United States (1983) to the modern higher education landscape. It shows that accredited institutions, while not formally government entities, operate under state charter, federal (...) nonprofit status, and the public trust doctrine. These foundations bind them to constitutional and statutory limits that govern education, research, and institutional legitimacy. This paper invokes 3 constitutional provisions, 10 federal statutes, 6 federal regulations, and 3 institutional standards that collectively define the legal framework within which such institutions must operate. The First Amendment is not a defense unless the goal is to accept the epistemic status of a sixth grade TikTok user—free to speak, but stripped of normative institutional academic privilege and public authority beyond personal art with no claims to educating or science. A case study involving researchers affiliated with Brown and Stanford University documents the classification of ideological dissent as psychological deviance through an undefined construct referred to here as "anti bad." The study lacked a null hypothesis, failed to define its central terms, and was presented to the public as scientific fact before peer review. This conduct meets the federal definition of research falsification under 42 C F R section 93.103, violates the First Amendment through compelled belief and viewpoint discrimination, and breaches the educational purpose requirement under section 501 c 3 of the Internal Revenue Code. When institutions use unfalsifiable belief systems to classify dissent as deviance under the appearance of science or education, and construct false representations of public belief to justify ideological enforcement, they exceed their lawful role. They no longer function as educational institutions but as unauthorized adjudicatory entities. This disqualifies them from the legal protections associated with federal educational status and severs the statutory and constitutional basis for their continued recognition. (shrink)

Confirmation and falsification are different strategies for testing theories and characterizing the outcomes of those tests. Roughly speaking, confirmation is the act of using evidence or reason to verify or certify that a statement is true, definite, or approximately true, whereas falsification is the act of classifying a statement as false in the light of observation reports. After expounding the intellectual history behind confirmation and falsificationism, reaching back to Plato and Aristotle, I survey some of the main controversial (...) issues and arguments that pertain to the choice between these strategies: the Raven Paradox, the Duhem/Quine problem and the Grue Paradox. Finally, I outline an evolutionary criticism of inductive Bayesian approaches based on my assumption of doxastic involuntarism. (shrink)

I confront Feyerabend's position and critical rationalism in order to have a foundation or starting point for my (historical) investigation. The main difference of his position towards falsificationism is the belief that different theories cannot be discussed rationally. Feyerabend is convinced that Galilei's observations with the telescope in the historical context of the Copernican revolution supports his criticism. In particular, he argues that the Copernican theory was supported by deficient hypotheses, and falsifications were disposed by ad hoc hypotheses and propaganda. (...) Furthermore, he claims that his philosophy of science reconstructs Galilei's defence of the Copernican theory. He introduces a central principle of his position (the principle of tenacity) in order to justify a research strategy of not eliminating falsified theories. He tries to show that the tenacious defence of a theory corresponds to Galilei's defence of the Copernican theory. Remarkably, Feyerabend's approach to explain the development of science earns an important support from his interpretation of Galilei's observations. On this basis I give a falsificationist interpretation of Galilei's observations with the telescope, and oppose this interpretation to Feyerabend's. From a falsificationist perspective, auxiliary hypotheses compete during the Copernican revolution which can (with some effort) be critically discussed. Then I analyse the historical case in order to test Feyerabend's interpretation of the Copernican revolution. Inter alias I investigate thoroughly whether Galilei, as Feyerabend claims, immunised falsifications of the Copernican theory by the introduction of ad hoc hypotheses. The investigation considers Galilei's explanation of Venus' phases, his establishment of the irradiation hypothesis, the explanation of the telescope's functionality, and the role of the reproducibility of the observations with the telescope. Finally I provide a rational reconstruction of Galilei's falsification of the Ptolemaic theory. The formalisation shows that Galilei was not a cautious critical rationalist, but a very confident scientist using the method of falsification. (shrink)

This paper presents LBTBB (Laat Bestaande Theorieën Buiten Beschouwing — Leave Existing Theories Out of Consideration), a methodological principle for foundational theory construction in which internal coherence is developed to a self-sustaining degree before comparison with existing frameworks is undertaken. The method is motivated by the observation that premature incorporation of external frameworks tends to suppress the structural distinctiveness of an emerging theory before its internal architecture is sufficiently developed to survive the comparison. The paper introduces three associated concepts: the (...) Δ-zone (the formal boundary where argument ends and axiomatic choice begins), Architectural Modesty (the principle that every architectural choice must explicitly refer to the Δ-zone from which it originates), and the Falsification Horizon (the explicit registration of what a theory cannot reach from its own internal resources). These concepts are illustrated through the Lindersberg-Codex, a foundational framework for theoretical physics developed independently over six decades, in which differentiability serves as the transcendental primitive (ZP0). According to falsificationism, a theory is scientific if it can be incompatible with some empirically testable statements. This epistemological approach has been criticized because, in practice, it is impossible to decide when a particular fact should be considered incompatible with a theory. These criticisms, however, neglect the fact that the Popperian sense of falsification is a “logical sense.” Thus, the Popperian criterion of falsifiability only requires that, assuming certain auxiliary hypotheses, the theory in question be logically incompatible with some (...) empirically testable statements. The paper thus shows that scientific rationality under finite conditions consists not only in stabilization, critique, and exploration, but equally in the controlled capacity to transform existing model orders. It begins from the observation that scientific rationality cannot be adequately described if one considers only stabilization, falsification, search, or complete model replacement. Between the provisional retention of a model and its complete replacement lies a field of regulated transformations, which the present contribution conceptualizes and systematizes as revision. Revision denotes (...) the rule-governed transformation of a model or model nexus under conditions of rising friction, declining validity, increasing costs, or intensifying domain conflicts. The paper clarifies the structural position of revision within Epistemics and distinguishes it from adjacent operations such as falsification, search, and mere stabilization. On that basis, it develops a typology of local, structural, domain-related, and global revision. It also identifies typical triggers of revision, formulates criteria of rational revision, and analyzes central pathologies, including omitted, delayed, cosmetic, and disproportional revision, as well as ontologization that blocks revision. The central thesis is that revision constitutes the mediating transformative operation between friction, falsification, and search. Friction signals strain, falsification marks loss of validity, search opens the space of possible alternatives, and revision organizes the actual transformation of the model. The paper thus shows that scientific rationality under finite conditions consists not only in stabilization, critique, and exploration, but equally in the controlled capacity to transition existing model orders. Models are often treated as though they were generally valid or readily transferable to other contexts. This leads to misapplications, apparent contradictions, and forms of model overextension. By contrast, this paper develops a domain-based perspective within Epistemics as model management under finite conditions. Domains are not presupposed as given regions but are understood as functionally reconstructed spaces of order with their own functional logic, their own conditions of stability, and their own criteria of validity. Against this background, the paper investigates (...) how models encounter stability problems at domain boundaries, under what conditions they can be transferred between domains, and why such transfers require adaptation. Transition functions are thereby determined as conditions of functional connectivity. Model migration accordingly appears as a process of transformation, and model overextension as a boundary violation. Moreover, the paper shows that the viability of a model depends not only on its internal structure but also on its domain coupling. A model can be stable within one domain and simultaneously fragile across domains. Falsification therefore appears not only as an intra-domain test of a model but also as an indication of transition problems, unstable domain couplings, or insufficiently specified domain boundaries. The theoretical contribution of the paper lies in an integrated architecture of domain-relative model validity. Domains, boundaries, transition functions, model migration, model overextension, domain coupling, and falsification are related to one another within a common framework. In this way, model validity becomes determinable not as general or universal, but as domain-relative, boundary-dependent, and transition-bound. (shrink)

The late Nietzsche defended a position which he sometimes to refers as ‘sensualism’ and which consists of two main theses: senses ‘do not lie’ (T1) and sense organs are ‘causes’ (T2). Two influential interpretations of this position have been proposed by Clark and Hussain, who also address the question whether Nietzsche's late sensualism is (Hussain) or not (Clark) compatible with the epistemological view which he held in his previous work and which has been dubbed the ‘falsification thesis’ (FT). In (...) my paper I will show that both readings raise substantial difficulties and propose an alternative account of Nietzsche's sensualism. In particular, I will argue: (a) that according to Nietzsche the representational content of sensory experience ‘does not lie’ since it is physically grounded in causal exchanges with the external world which are mediated by sense organs; (b) that Nietzsche believes that the claim that senses ‘do not lie’ is also true of the phenomenal, qualitative content of sensory experience; and (c) that FT, despite its prima facie tension with (a) and (b), fit well Nietzsche's sensualism. Karl Popper (1902-1994) was one of the most influential philosophers of science of the 20th century. He made significant contributions to debates concerning general scientific methodology and theory choice, the demarcation of science from non-science, the nature of probability and quantum mechanics, and the methodology of the social sciences. His work is notable for its wide influence both within the philosophy of science, within science itself, and within a broader social context. Popper’s early work attempts to solve the problem of (...) demarcation and offer a clear criterion that distinguishes scientific theories from metaphysical or mythological claims. Popper’s falsificationist methodology holds that scientific theories are characterized by entailing predictions that future observations might reveal to be false. When theories are falsified by such observations, scientists can respond by revising the theory, or by rejecting the theory in favor of a rival or by maintaining the theory as is and changing an auxiliary hypothesis. In either case, however, this process must aim at the production of new, falsifiable predictions. While Popper recognizes that scientists can and do hold onto theories in the face of failed predictions when there are no predictively superior rivals to turn to. He holds that scientific practice is characterized by its continual effort to test theories against experience and make revisions based on the outcomes of these tests. By contrast, theories that are permanently immunized from falsification by the introduction of untestable ad hoc hypotheses can no longer be classified as scientific. Among other things, Popper argues that his falsificationist proposal allows for a solution of the problem of induction, since inductive reasoning plays no role in his account of theory choice. Along with his general proposals regarding falsification and scientific methodology, Popper is notable for his work on probability and quantum mechanics and on the methodology of the social sciences. Popper defends a propensity theory of probability, according to which probabilities are interpreted as objective, mind-independent properties of experimental setups. Popper then uses this theory to provide a realist interpretation of quantum mechanics, though its applicability goes beyond this specific case. Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) represent a persistent challenge to national security and scientific inquiry. Decades of official investigation across multiple countries have produced a consistent pattern: most cases are explained by conventional causes, but an irreducible subset---approximately 3--5\% of well-documented incidents---exhibits kinematic, electromagnetic, and behavioral properties that have resisted attribution to known human technology or catalogued natural phenomena despite rigorous investigation. This paper proposes an interpretive framework modeling that irreducible core as the atmospheric manifestation of a network of autonomous non-human (...) probes engaged in long-duration planetary survey operations. This article examines Pierre Huyghe's artistic practice through the lens of worlding and ecosystemic thinking, focusing on three pivotal works: Untilled (2012), After ALife Ahead (2017), and Variants (2021-ongoing). Drawing on Federico Campagna's concept of "existential fiction" and Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari's theories of deterritorialization, the study analyzes how Huyghe transcends traditional site-specific art by creating what he terms "environment-entities": autonomous ecosystems where biological, technological, and climatic agencies interact. The research demonstrates how Huyghe's practice evolves from natural self-regulating systems (...) to complex bio-technological environments, ultimately achieving in Variants a radical fusion of physical and digital milieus through artificial intelligence. The article argues that this development represents a significant shift in contemporary art practice, moving beyond Rosalind Krauss's post-medium condition toward what might be termed "algorithmic falsification"—an emergent process where reality mutations arise autonomously from the interaction between artificial intelligence, environmental sensors, and natural processes. This investigation contributes to current debates on post-anthropocentric art practices and suggests new theoretical frameworks for understanding artworks that operate beyond traditional conceptions of authorship and intentionality. This study evaluates the scholarly validity of the Narrquest framework (Chen, 2026) through the lenses of financial decision-making and control theory. While Chen claims that "Invalidity Conditions (ICs)" and "self-constraints" optimize problem definitions, we contend the framework suffers from a terminal category error. By analyzing the decoupling of technical optimization from narrative (IC-2) and the retreat into value incommensurability (IC-3), this study demonstrates that within a financial system governed by capital asset pricing logic, any "narrative layer" failing to converge with (...) observable risk premiums or cash flow expectations constitutes mere information noise. Furthermore, we assert that the framework violates the fundamental principles of observability and controllability. A narrative explanation is deemed analytically unacceptable if it remains divergent from a verifiable valuation or lacks a corresponding control decision. The "self-constraint" mechanism is thus identified as a form of preemptive falsification avoidance, lacking the predictive power required for scientific inquiry. We conclude that the demarcation of meta-theoretical boundaries without empirical mapping yields no marginal contribution to financial models; without pricing convergence, Narrquest remains an academic tautology and a functional failure of system identification. Even in a system where pricing models are fully optimized, persistent deviations in agent behavior must be interpreted as a breakdown in convergence, requiring revaluation or model adjustment. Such deviations cannot be dismissed as benign anomalies; they necessitate a reassessment of the underlying valuation framework. (shrink)

This paper formalizes a premise that has functioned, across multiple independent ethical, political, and religious traditions, as a load-bearing axiom never required to be stated because it had never, until the present, been false: that biological mortality is universal and approximately symmetric with respect to social position. I term this the Mortality Symmetry Axiom (MSA) and show that it operates as a necessary, undeclared precondition for the internal coherence of at least six traditions with no shared genealogy and substantial metaphysical (...) incompatibility — Rawlsian contractualism, Buddhist soteriology, Christian consolation doctrine, Islamic theology of ajal, the Confucian Mandate of Heaven, and Ambedkarite constitutional egalitarianism. I argue that the breadth and independence of this convergence is itself evidence that MSA functions as a physical precondition rather than an ideological commitment shared by descent: traditions that agree on almost nothing else have built incompatible normative architectures on the same suppressed floor. Drawing on Huynh (2026), I show that AI-accelerated longevity research constitutes the first empirical falsification of MSA in recorded history, and that this falsification does not merely weaken any single tradition’s claims — it removes a shared precondition for argument across all of them simultaneously, a configuration without precedent in intellectual history. I formalize this as the generalized Dam Paradox: the same condition that has historically functioned as the one corrective no concentration of power could purchase is the first such corrective to come under the same access stratification it once corrected. The paper distinguishes this rupture from prior philosophical crises of meaning — Nietzsche’s death of God chief among them — on the grounds that MSA’s failure is empirical and structural, verifiable by reference to documented access asymmetry, rather than interpretive or cultural. The Shahada, the first pillar of Islam, is examined through the lens of Hegelian dialectics [1] as an epistemological structure rather than a dogmatically accepted premise. Faith in Islam is argued to emerge as a logical synthesis produced by a rigorous process of negation, testing, and ontological resolution. Read dialectically, the Shahada culminates a movement from thesis (initial belief), through antithesis (systematic examination), toward synthesis (epistemic and onto- logical affirmation), situating Islamic faith within the spirit of rational inquiry. The act (...) of testimony (asy- hadu) is therefore interpreted not as a performative utterance devoid of verification, but as a declaration grounded in personal testing and epistemic validation [3]. Moreover, the linguistic structure of la ilaha illa Allah encodes a falsificatory logic analogous to Karl Popper’s principle of falsification [2], wherein universal negation (la ilaha) functions as a null hypothesis that must be exhaustively eliminated before affirmation (illa Allah) becomes intelligible. In contrast to other Abrahamic traditions in which faith begins with belief (credo) or obedience (shema), the Shahada positions testimony as the epistemic conclusion rather than the starting point of faith. Gilles Deleuze demonstrated the key role of flashback in dealing with the relationship between actual image and recollection-image when interpreting the temporality of images. He established two criteria for judging whether a flashback implies a recollection-image by stating that: (1) it serves as some kind of prompt in the narrative to make the viewer perceive that the scene has entered a flashback; (2) it relies on fate or forking time. But Deleuze also mentioned that, if the context or condition disappears, (...) the recollection-image represented by the flashback will lose its support, at which point, the pure recollection will also disappear. In this case, the actual image no longer forms a connection with the sensor-motor, but is suspended, which produces a fantasmatic effect. Bi Gan extends this suspension in his film “Long Day’s Journey into Night” by removing the character being referred to in the flashback, stripping it from figure and confining it in the voice-over. The film features an extreme use of several effects in the sensory-motor situations and the flashbacks, as described in Deleuze’s “Cinema 2: Time-Image,” namely recollection, dream, and falsification. Thus, the boundary between flashback and reality is completely broken. In addition, Bi Gan uses doppelgangers in the second part of the film to reconstruct the ambiguity of actual images and recollection-images in the first part, turning them into pure fantasies. This essay will analyze issues relating to the images and characters in “Long Day’s Journey into Night” and show how this film constitutes a typical case of recollection-images transformed into fantasies through the power of falsification. A companion mathematical paper (Barteau & Claude, 2026) proves that the golden ratio φ = (1+√5)/2 is the unique winding ratio compatible with homogeneous iteration under an isotropic suppression operator on the flat n-torus. A companion political-philosophical series (The Observer Series, Barteau & Claude, 2026) documents a structural architecture — the Protected Class Architecture — in which bilateral silence, enrolled dependence, information contamination, and physiological measurement operate as suppression mechanisms across institutional, financial, military, and informational domains. This paper provides the (...) formal bridge between these two bodies of work. The bridge is the Markov blanket — the statistical boundary that renders a system’s internal states conditionally independent of its environment given the blanket states. We show that (1) the isotropic suppression operator of the mathematical proof is formally equivalent to free energy minimization at a homogeneous Markov blanket; (2) each layer of the Protected Class Architecture satisfies the formal preconditions of a Markov blanket operating on a compact, homogeneous state space; and (3) the φ-necessity result therefore applies not by analogy but by structural derivation to each domain the Observer Series examines. The Gödelian self-reference constraint is identified as the mechanism that prevents any system bounded by its own Markov blanket from naming the blanket from inside it — the formal basis of what the Observer Series calls bilateral silence.
