Abstract

The aim of this paper is to argue that practical wisdom, like any other genuine system in the world, does exist. According to practical wisdom eliminativism, there is no such thing as practical wisdom, or, as Christian Miller has put it, on metaphysical grounds, practical wisdom does not exist. This paper develops an argument, termed the System Argument, which specifies the conditions under which practical wisdom exists and establishes its existence. It further contrasts the System Response, represented by the System Argument, with the Analogy Response, which seeks to demonstrate the existence of practical wisdom through analogies such as the decathlon and enology. This comparison demonstrates the greater explanatory power of the System Argument.
