From Retained Inner Asymmetry to Hosted Internal Organization

Abstract

A state-primitive ontology can reach retained inner asymmetry without yet reaching hosted internal organization. Retained inner asymmetry preserves a line-specific inner/outer difference through bounded local persistence, but it does not yet govern admissible internal participation. It does not explain how effects, alterations, perturbations, materials, records, damages, repairs, or prior consequences become internal to a continuing regime rather than merely present, enclosed, stored, impressed, or externally registered. The missing transition is the hosted-environment bridge: the conversion of belonging-possible asymmetry into continuation-governed participation. The argument developed here begins from the state-primitive handoff: retained inner asymmetry is belonging-possible, not belonging-governed. A boundary does not by itself settle belonging, because what lies inside a boundary may be admissible, intrusive, damaging, tolerated, transformed, suppressed, rejected, repaired, incorporated, or retained. A hosted environment is therefore not a place where things happen. It is a continuation-governed regime in which participation can count, fail, be transformed, incorporated, repaired, retained, carried, suppressed, demoted, or re-entered under regime-specific conditions. Hosted internal organization is the stronger case in which the regime’s continuation-carrier becomes substantially internalized through condition-bearing interiority, protected internal degrees of freedom, regulated mutability, repair-capable successor-continuity, internal carrying, relation-space positioning, and recoverable latency. The argument proceeds by necessity: retained inner asymmetry is insufficient without governed participation; boundary-mediated belonging is insufficient without continuation-carriage; proto-hosting is insufficient without condition-bearing interiority; condition-bearing interiority is insufficient without regulation; regulation is insufficient without protected ways of changing; mutability is insufficient unless change remains carryable without regime collapse; failure handling is insufficient unless disruption can become valid successor-continuity; retention is insufficient unless retained consequence conditions later standing; carrying is insufficient for recoverability unless retained consequence becomes relation-space positioned; recoverable latency is insufficient for memory unless retained significance becomes re-recruitable, revisable, and reconstructively usable. Biology supplies the richest known historical realization of hosted internal organization, but it does not define hosted organization universally. Protocells, autocatalytic networks, immune tolerance, microbiota, wound repair, homeostasis, allostasis, archives, simulations, formal systems, artificial memory architectures, and institutional-economic regimes function as pressure cases for rank discipline. The bridge ends at recoverable hosted organization capable of downstream specialization. Memory begins only where recoverable hosted significance becomes trace-capable. Cognition begins later still, where retained and externally incorporated histories become available for taking-as, interpretation, planning, expectation, decision, and action-guiding orientation.
