Abstract
Agnosia is characterized by intact sensory perception but impaired semantic mapping, leading to deficits in object, face, auditory, or tactile recognition. This paper proposes a **grammar-based scaffold intervention** that leverages generative syntax to facilitate emergent perception. By encoding sensory features into a formal syntax and using multimodal external scaffolds, such as American Sign Language (ASL), visual-tactile mappings, or symbolic gestures, patients can develop alternative cognitive pathways. This approach allows compensatory learning, enhances affordance detection, and may convert deficits into emergent abilities. The intervention is applicable across multiple agnosia types and provides a theoretical framework connecting neuroplasticity, extended mind, and compensatory cognition.
