Greensleeves, library
Brett is sitting at the desk, Melanie Sadler sits on the tabletop.
Melanie Sadler
Alright, who was your House Master there?
Brett
Um, David Hamlin. We used to call him the Pie Piper.
Melanie Sadler
What happened during your last term?
Brett
I was nearly expelled.
Melanie Sadler
Why?
Brett
For smuggling girls into the dormitory.
Melanie Sadler
It very good. We come through a lot this evening.
Brett puts his hand on her knee
We could accomplish a great deal more.
Melanie Sadler closes the open zipper on her skirt to the hem.
You got a lot more studying to do before playtime. Anyway I am exhausted.
She gets up and goes to the door.
Country gentleman lessons start at eight in the morning. I see you then. Good night.
Brett gets up and suggests a bow.
Good night.
Brett waits until she's gone. He rings for the Butler and writes a note. Moorehead knocks and enters.
Moorehead, come in. I am sure you noticed there's something distinctly odd going on here.
Moorehead
I have noticed a certain undercurrent of intrigue, Milord.
Brett
Tomorrow morning you will receve a call from a sick relative. You have to leave right away.
Moorehead
Yes, sir.
Brett
You will tell them, that you arranged a replacement butler during your absence. Now take this note to the american gentleman staying at the pub.
Moorehead
Very good, Mylord.
Brett
I'll explain everything later.
Moorehead
Something that you ought to know.
Brett
Yes, Moorehead?
Moorehead
The rest of the staff are heeled.
Brett
Heeled, Moorehead?
The butler pretends to pull a gun and aims a finger at Brett.
++++++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Moorehead in coat and hat talks to Emerson.
I do apologise for the inconvenience I cause, but I'm sure you will be more than satisfied with my replacement.
Piers Emerson
Yes. Well, it can't be helped.
Moorehead
I get back as soon as I can, Sir.
Brett comes down the stairs dressed in riding breeches, tweetjacket and turtleneck.
Was that Moorehead I saw leaving?
Melanie Sadler in riding clothes
Yes, family matters, if it's to believed.
Brett wags his leather gloves
What other reason could there be?
Piers Emerson
He may have recognised you as a fake.
Brett
Nonsense. He knows one of natures Earls when he sees one.
Melanie Sadler
Well, let's see how good natures Earl is on a horse. Congoto may want to ride and Sinclairs is reputed to have a good seat.
Brett watches her as she walks to the door
He's not the only one.
+++++
forest paths
Brett gallops on a dapple gray, Melanie Sadler follows him on a bay. He stops on the forest path.
Melanie Sadler
Not bad. Where'd you learned to ride like that?
Brett
Oh, I had a bit part in "The Charge of the Light Brigade".
Melanie Sadler rides on.
Well, let's see how you went in "The Valley of Death".
Brett stops at a crossroad and watches as Melanie Sadler rides across country.
Brett
Not that way! Wait!
Brett rides another way and intercepts her horse before it can topple down a steep slope.
Woh! Woh!
Melanie Sadler
Thanks. How did you know?
Brett pats his horse.
Well, I didn't. The horse did.
+++++
Greensleeves, the driveway
A small, red Mini Cooper drives up to the house. Danny gets out, dressed all in black, with a hat, umbrella and traveling bag. He goes to the door, knocks on it with his umbrella and rings a bell.
+++++
Greensleeves, library
Emerson sits in front of the fireplace, Hassocks stands behind the chair, Melanie Sadler sits with an opened book.
Brett sits behind the desk and answers her questions.
Then ... um, then I was with my regiment in Korea, where I won a couple of decorations, which I'm far too modest to mention, oh and my commanding officer was Colonel Frank Buckingham.
Jackson enters.
Yes?
Jackson
The replacement temporary Butler is arrived, sir.
Sir John Hassocks
See to him, Jackson. Show him the ropes.
Brett
Certainly not. I wish to see his references. Show him in.
Sir John Hassocks nods. Jackson beckons Danny in the library. Brett stops him with a gesture in the middle of the room, gets up and walks around him.
Brett
What is your name?
Danny
Gregor, Mylord.
Brett
Well, Gregor. I imagine you have some references.
Danny
Yes, Mylord.
He takes an envelope from his jacket and hands it to Brett.
Brett
Thank you.
He unfolds the letter and looks it over briefly.
Oh, I see you worked for Lord Magnum.
Danny
Yes, Mylord.
Brett goes around Danny once again.
Well, Magnum was never very demanding. You find that we run a much tighter ship. For excample we try to discourage the use amongst the staff of strong smelling after shave lotions. You will wash it off before you mend to your duties. Jackson will show you to your quarters.
Danny
Yes, Mylord.
Brett
You may need this.
He gives Danny the letter back.
Danny
Thank you, Mylord.
Brett
Sooner than you think.
Danny leaves the library.
+++++++
In front of Greensleeves, the ramp
A Mercedes pulls up. Hassocks, Brett, Emerson and two servants come out of the house. The chauffeur opens the car door. Richard Congoto gets out. Brett shakes his hand and discreetly tapps his wrist with two fingers.
Brett
Mister Prime Minister, it's a great honor, Sir.
Richard Congoto notices the hand signal and remains very formally.
Lord Sinclair. Great pleasure to meet you again. May I present my finance minister, Dr.Kibu?
Brett
How do you do?
They shake hands.
Richard Congoto
And my daughter, Carmen.
Brett
How do you do, Carmen?
Carmen Congoto
Hello.
Brett
I'd like you to meet Sir John Hassocks.
+++
Greensleeves, entrance hall
Melanie Sadler, Jackson and Danny wait for the guests. Danny, in white livery stares motionless straight ahead.
Piers Emerson
Dr.Kibu, this is Miss Sadler.
Brett
Excellency, this is Miss Sadler.
Richard Congoto
How do you do?
Brett
Miss Congoto. Melanie Sadler.
Melanie Sadler
How do you do? Would you come …?
Richard Congoto
I am looking forward to meeting anyone more informal in a little while, but the journey has been quite strenuous.
Brett
Right, I can imagine. Jet travel is a boring but moving necessity. Certainly.
Danny takes Richard Congotos leather coat by the collar from behind and pulls it off.
Brett throws a distressed look on Danny, who smiles secretly.
Richard Congoto
Perhaps you'd be so kind and show me to my room, Lord Sinclair?
Brett
Oh, with pleasure. Your Exellency.
Both go up the stairs. Hassocks goes with Melanie Sadler, Carmen Congoto and Dr.Kibu in the library.
+++
Greensleeves, Suite Congoto, lounge.
Brett leads Richard Congoto in the living room and carefully closes the door.
Congo.
Richard Congoto
Beggy.
Brett
It's good to see you again. It's been a long time.
Richard Congoto
I have read about you in the papers from time to time.
Brett
Oh, you get quite a space yourself, you know.
Richard Congoto makes the secret hand gesture
What was that all about downstairs? The old schoolboy handshake? Were you trying to warn me about something?
Brett
I'm not sure yet. But things are not, what they appear. I'll make a guess when you tell me, why you are here.
Richard Congoto
You know that. You set it up.
Brett
No, I didn't. Sit down. In fact I wouldn't have known you were coming at all, except by the oddest chance.
He looks out the door if anyone is listening.
Richard Congoto
Go on.
Brett
Oh, I had a credit note for an overcharge by a construction firm. An overcharge for work carried out here. Now I hadn't autorised anything at all, so I came down to take a look and found all this redecoration. And that lot installed downstairs.
Richard Congoto
So I was tricked to coming here.
Brett
It would seem so. What's the story they gave you?
Richard Congoto
Confidential talks with your government about financing the nickel mining in my country. I was most reluctant to come.
Brett
Nevertheless you came.
Richard Congoto
But only in the utmost secrecy. Nobody knows I left the country. I was told, you, personally had endorsed that meeting. It was only your name that convinced me that it was worth the risk. What are they planning, Brett?
Brett
I don't know, but I think we are going to find out very soon.
+++++
Greensleeves, library
Hassocks and Dr.Kibu go to the door and open it, as Danny enters with a tea-tray between them.
Danny
Pardon me.
Your Highness, tea.
He puts down the tray.
May I pour?
Carmen Congoto
Thank you. What's your name?
Danny
Gregor, your Highness, Gregor, yes.
He pours two cups and hands her one.
Carmen Congoto
Not english?
Danny
No, not english, hungarian.
Carmen Congoto
Hey, that's great. What city?
Danny
Budapest.
Carmen Congoto
I lived for two years in Budapest. At university.
Danny looks unconfortable.
Ni koi joki?
Danny
Sugar?
Carmen Congoto
Te kops ka turek.
Danny spoons sugar into the cup. He keeps on to spoon more sugar into the cup.
Carmen Congoto
Hahaha. You are no more hungarian than I am.
Danny
How could you tell?
Carmen Congoto
I even beginning to doubt that you are a butler.
Danny takes her hand and pulls her toward the door.
Now look, I am on your side.
Carmen Congoto
On my side?
Danny
Yeah, right, this whole set-up is crooked.
+++++
Greensleeves, Suite Congoto, lounge.
Richard Congoto
What do you suggest?
Brett
Wait till they make their move. That'll give us time to work something out.
There is a knock on the door. Two liveried servants, aka Hoodlum 1 and 2 come through the door, carrying suitcases through the room.
Remember, Prime Minister: Concilio et prudencia. Remember? He leaves and Congoto closes the door.
Richard Congoto
Sneaky is best.
The servants begin in the bedroom to unpack the suitcases.
++++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Brett goes along the gallery and starts downstairs. Melanie Sadler goes up the stairs. They stop halfway.
Melanie Sadler
Time to change for dinner.
Brett looks at his watch and starts up the stairs again.
Ah, yes, right.
Melanie Sadler considers the portraits on the wall.
The third Earl looks a bit a rake.
Brett only takes a quick look at the picture.
Oh, this is not the third Earl, this is the fifth. The third Earl died when he was three years old, so he never had his portrait done.
Melanie Sadler
You have done your homework well.
Brett runs up the stairs.
++++
Greensleeves, Suite Brett, Bedroom
Brett struggles to put on a tuxedo vest and sings
Alas my love, ye do me wrong,
to cast me off discourteously,
When I have love'ed you so...
He takes a sip of his drink and gargles.
... a long...
+++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Jackson comes from the library. Danny sits cross-legged on the stairs and meditates.
Hey, come on, sell it now, dinner is ready.
While Jackson goes up the stairs, Danny stands up, fixes his clothes and goes to the big gong. He hits it so hard that the mallet flies away.
++++
Greensleeves, Suite Brett, Bedroom
Brett sings while he takes his jacket out of the closet and puts it on the bed.
...in your company.
He takes a pair of shoes and a shoehorn. Someone's knocking.
Come in.
Brett sings.
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
Greensleeves was my pure delight...
He sits down with his back to the door on the bed to put on his shoes.
Jackson comes in and takes a small stick from his pocket.
Yes, what is it? Di dada di...
Jackson hits Brett with the stick from behind on the head. Brett falls unconscious next to the bed to the floor.
++++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Congoto, Hassocks, Emerson, Dr.Kibu and Carmen Congoto go through the entrance hall.
Richard Congoto
I'm sorry Lord Sinclair was not able to dine with us. I do hope he'll join us for coffee?
Sir John Hassocks
Oh, I'm sure he will if it is at all possible.
Richard Congoto
I want him to be present when we have discussions.
Piers Emerson
Oh, of course, it just that he's been unavoidably detained.
They walk past Danny into the library. Carmen smiles at Danny and shrugs. He keeps a straight face. Once they are in the library, he quickly runs up the stairs to Brett rooms.
++++
Greensleeves, Suite Brett, Bedroom
Danny goes through the living room into the bedroom and looks out for Brett.
Brett?
He opens the closet and finds the half-full glass. He takes a sip. He looks under the bed!
Brett?
He discovers Bretts tuxedo jacket, which lies over the bed frame. He takes it up to look for clues. Jackson comes in.
Good evening, Jackson, good evening my friend. How are you?
Danny immediately takes a brush from his pocket and begins to brush off the tuxedo jacket.
Jackson
What are you doing here?
Danny
I came to tidy up his Lordships room.
Jackson
They'll be calling for coffee downstairs in five minutes. Go on down.
Danny hangs the jacket in the closet.
Jackson, it's not necessary to told me household procedures. Peasant.
Danny eyes Jackson from head to toe and goes out the door.
+++++
Greensleeves, basement room, with shelves, wine bottles, a small, barred window in the massive wooden door.
Brett wakes up on the stone floor and holds his head.
Ohohh.
Slowly he sits up and leans against a shelf. Obviously he has a headache.
Melanie Sadler
Will the real Lord Brett Sinclair please stand up.
Beside her one of the hoodlums points a gun at him.
Brett
Alright. Where did I go wrong?
Melanie Sadler
It was the portrait of the third Earl that did it. It's not in any of the history books.
Brett
Oh...
He clears his throat.
... that was very careless of me.
Melanie Sadler
You also have the Sinclair mole. It's in all the portaits.
Brett touches his cheek.
I prefer to call it a beauty spot. I suppose this is the end of a beautiful friendship.
Melanie Sadler
It needn't be. When all this is over, give me a ring.
She goes with her hoodlum and they lock the door. Brett grimaces and rubs the back of his head.
+++++
Greensleeves, lobby</br>Danny ran down the stairs and listens at the door to the library.
+++
Greensleeves, library
Sir John Hassocks
Now, let's get started, shall we? And to begin, Prime Minister, I have a small confession to make.
Richard Congoto
I shall be interested to hear it.
Sir John Hassocks
We are not... not in any way connected with the british government. We do however, represent a huge consortium of mining companies that are interested in Zandas nickel deposits.
Piers Emerson
We knew that you'd never come over to have talks with private business interests, but we were confident, that once you came, that we could interest you.
Sir John Hassocks
A harmless enough little deception, don't you agree?
Richard Congoto
I do not. But go ahead, gentlemen, you are already self confessed liars. What else have you got to admit to?
+++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Danny sneaks from the library door to the door leading to the basement and opens it a bit. Apparently he sees someone coming up the stairs, because he quickly closes the door and wants to run up the stairs. But Jackson comes down that way, so Danny disappears in the other direction.
Melanie Sadler to Jackson.
Stay outside, we don't want to be disturbed.
She goes into the library.
Jackson
Who's got the key to the cellar?
Hoodlum 1
Miss Sadler. But don't worry, Sinclair couldn't get out of there with a battering ram.
Jackson
Alright. Go on back to the kitchen. And keep an eye on that new butler. Something about him that bothers me.
+++
Greensleeves, library
Sir John Hassocks
Now, the terms: Eighty-five percent of the profits to our consortium.
Richard Congoto
I see: you are cheats as well as liars.
Piers Emerson
We are entitled to a substantial return to what is after all a huge investment. As for the remainder of the profits, ten percent goes to the Government of Zanda.
Richard Congoto
And the final five percent?
Sir John Hassocks
Goes in a number swiss account for you.
Richard Congoto
And what would be the amount of my share?
Sir John Hassocks
At least one million sterling within the first five years.
Richard Congoto
A great deal of money.
Carmen Congoto
Father?
Piers Emerson
There will be an immediate payment of one hundred thousand pounds made to you, in advance of profit.
Richard Congoto
I was just trying to find out exactly, how much I would be turning down.
He gets up and takes his daughter's hand.
Kibu, perhaps you can arrange for a car immediately.
Both go to the door.
Our business here is over.
Dr.Kibu
No, Richard. I'm afraid you can't leave here until this matter is settled.
Richard Congoto
You?
Dr.Kibu
I did all the preliminary work. Your refusal to cooperate was always a possibility, so, there are alternative plans.
Congoto and his daughter go on the door.
Please, sit down.
Piers Emerson threatened both with a gun.
I think you'd better sit down.
+++
Greensleeves, cellar, Brett's prison
Brett knocks with an empty wine bottle on the walls to find out where a secret door is. At one point it sounds hollow, he puts the bottle away and pushes against the wall.
++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Jackson sits in the hall on a wooden table and lights a cigarette. In the background is a leather armchair in which Daniel lies upside down, hidden with his legs up on the backrest. He slides down a little further to see over the armrest. Jackson hears a sound, puts the cigarette away and goes to investigate. Before he can find Daniel, Hassocks comes from the library.
Sir John Hassocks
Jackson.
Hassocks and Jackson go to the library. Danny makes a role backwards out of the chair, dusts off himself, the chair and the curtains with his brush and sneaks through the door to the cellar.
++++
Greensleeves, library
Sir John Hassocks
Now, I am sure you like a few minutes in private to discuss the matter with your daughter.
Richard Congoto
I have already made my decision.
Sir John Hassocks
Then reconsider. Jackson will take you to your room and you can mull things over. Emerson will go with you and make certain you know the alternatives. When you fully understand them, I am sure you come around to our way of thinking.
Richard Congoto
There is no threat you can offer that'll change my mind.
Sir John Hassocks
Do you really care so little for your daughter's life?
Richard Congoto and Carmen go with Emerson and Jackson out the door.
Sir John Hassocks
Life must be very difficult when one has the handicaps of honesty and integrity. I am eternally grateful that I've never been troubled by them.
Melanie Sadler
That bluff about killing his daughter will work?
Sir John Hassocks
My dear Melanie, that was no bluff.
Melanie Sadler
Sure you don't mean to say... but you couldn't!
Sir John Hassocks slaps Melanie Sadler
Now don't go feminine on me.
+++++
Greensleeves, cellar
Brett tries to rotate a large iron ring that is inserted into the hollow wall. Since it does not work, he looks around and sees a second ring in the nearest wall. This can be turned and opens the lock of the secret door. When Brett again pulls the rope attached to the first ring, the secret door gives way and he can pull it a little bit inside. He tried to wriggle through the narrow gap to the passage behind, but the opening is too tight. He hears steps approaching his dungeon and stands in front of the small barred window in the wooden door. He whistles.
Danny opens the door of the small window and talks to Brett through the bars.
Stop fooling around, pal. The action is upstairs.
Brett
Daniel, come on, let me out.
Danny
I don't have a key. Melanie has got it, but back up and I crash in the door and break it open like in the movies.
Brett
Don't do it.
Danny
Look out.
Brett
Don't do it.
Danny
Look out.
Danny throws himself against the massive door.
Brett
Don't.
Brett makes a sympathetic grimace.
Danny
Oahh. Blimey. Wauhh.
Brett
You finish clowning?
Danny
I'm not clowning.
Brett
Now listen, will you?
Danny
What is it?
Brett
There is a way into the tunnel from here.
Danny
Yeah.
Brett
But it's jammed. Now I think you can open it from the other side.
Danny
How I get there?
Brett
You go through the secret panel in the library.
Danny
The library is crowed with people, buddy.
Brett
We must not that worry you, Daniel.
Danny moans.
Brett
Now, when you get into the passage...
Danny
Right.
Brett
... you turn left.
Danny
Right.
Brett
Then... right.
Danny
Right.
Brett
And right again.
Danny
Right.
He closes the little window. And opens it again.
Brett
And then left.
Danny closes the window finally and Brett shakes himself.
++++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Danny comes from the cellar door and sneaks to the library door. His gaze falls on a suit of armor. He takes the morning star weapon and swings it at the big gong. It rattles very loud and he covers his ears.Fire!
He kicks the gong again ...
Fire!
... And runs over to the library door
Fire! Fire! Fire!
Sir John Hassocks comes with Hoodlum 1 from the library
What? Where?
Danny points upstairs
Fire! Fire! Flames! Fire!
Hassocks and Hoodlum 1 run up the stairs. Danny runs into the library and locks the door.
+++
Greensleeves, library
Melanie Sadler
I want to warn you about ...
Danny takes Melanie Sadler's arm and pulls her to the door.
Oh! There's a fire, come, there's a ...
He knocks Dr.Kibu unconscious.
Melanie Sadler
We have to stop them. They are going to kill Congotos daughter ...
Danny
Wellcome to our side. Open the window.
He takes the gun from Dr.Kibu while Melanie Sadler goes for the french windows. Danny turns the middle chandelier and the secret door opens. He runs to the terrace door Melanie Sadler has opened and pulls her in the secret passage. Melanie Sadlers scarf hangs in the secret door.
Sir John Hassocks and Hoodlum 1 break open the library door and run in. They discover the unconscious Dr.Kibu and the open windows.
Call the gatehouse. Get everyone outside. They got to be stopped.
Hoodlum 1 discovers the scarf, which is in the wall door.
Take a look at this.
Sir John Hassocks scans the wall and coincidentally turns the right chandelier. The secret door opens.
Get the rest of the men and go after them. They got them trapped.
++++
Greensleeves, Underground passages
Melanie Sadler follows Danny down the steep stairs.
Which way?
Danny has the gun in his hand
He said "Go left". No, I think he meant "right". No, as a matter of fact, he said... ahm, I don't know, come on.
++++++++
Greensleeves, library
Sir John Hassocks
Get down there and stop them.
Hoodlum 1 and 2 run through the secret door. Dr.Kibu sits in an armchair and holds his aching jaw.
++++++
Greensleeves, Suite Congoto
Richard Congoto and his daughter Carmen sit in the bedroom, guarded by Jackson, sitting with a gun in the living room. Emerson enters.
Piers Emerson
There's been some trouble. Go and see if you can help.
Jackson leaves.
Piers Emerson
Don't get up your hopes. Everything is being taken care off. Why don't you stop being a hero and sign.
Richard Congoto
And if I do? What's to stop me resigning the contract the moment I'm free? Making public the fact that I was forced to sign?
Piers Emerson
Your daughter will remain here. As a surety that you don't go back on the deal.
Richard Congoto
You said there was an alternative.
Piers Emerson
You left Zanda under conditions of great secrecy. Mister Kibu arranged that a considerable summ of government money has been removed. The press will anounce that you have fled the country and you will be considered no better than a common embezzler.
Richard Congoto
I see.
Piers Emerson opens a fountain pen and places it on a stack of paper.
Why don't you just sign?
+++++++
Greensleeves, Underground passages
Danny followed by Melanie Sadler rushes through the aisles.
Greensleeves, Brett's holding cell
Brett is sitting on a sack in a corner against the wall with his eyes closed. He hears Daniel and stands up.
Daniel?
Danny
That's me.
Brett
Who's that with you?
Danny pulls Melanie Sadler before the crack
We've got a recruit.
Melanie Sadler
Hi.
Brett
Oh, I do love a tad.
Danny
What are we gonna do?
Brett
Oh, there is a lever on your side. Pull it.
Danny pulls the iron lever.
Brett
Pull it.
Danny pulls the iron lever again and breaks it off.
Oh, here. What am I to do with it?
He hands it to Brett through the door.
Brett considers the iron piece and throws it with temper on the floor.
Danny watches him with surprise. Obviously he is not use to Mylords temper tantrums.
Hey, man?
Brett
Push, you oaf.
Danny presses against the stone door.
Push, push. I'm pushing.
Brett takes again the rope to the iron ring and pulls desperately.
+++++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Sir John Hassocks
Go on down and get Sinclair. Jackson, you fool. The key.
He holds up the big key to Brett's dungeon. Jackson takes the key and goes. Sir John Hassocks laughs and walks around Dr.Kibu into the library.
It's rather like putting ferrets down the hole to get the rabbits.
++++
Greensleeves, cellar
Brett still pulls on the rope of the secret door.
I'll try it now. Ohh, ahhh.
He tries to squeeze through the gap.
Danny
Why don't you lose some weight?
Brett
I don't know any diet that works so fast.
He sees Hoodlum 1 look through the little window in the entrance door.
I found a diet. Daniel, we have company. Pull. Come on, pull.
Danny grabs Bretts arm, pulls him through the door and links arms with him.
Brett
I suddenly felt very thin.
He runs down a hallway ... and back
This way.
Danny runs after Brett and Melanie Sadler. Jackson does not fit through the door and shoots after them.
You know where we are going?
Brett
The Pub.
Danny sees a little further along the corridor and turn right behind a doorway for cover
Back!
Brett pulls Melanie Sadler back to the other side behind the doorway
Here.
Down the corridor you can see the villans coming.
Danny changes to the other side and stands in front Brett. Someone shoots at him.
Now what?
Brett
The library.
He runs back the way they came. The crooks shoot at them and Danny shoots back. They run up the stairs leading to the library.
+++
Greensleeves, library
Brett opens the secret door and peeks in the library. He is followed by Melanie Sadler past the sofa on which Dr.Kibu and Sir John Hassocks are sitting.
Sir John Hassocks pulls a gun on Brett.
Lord Sinclair?
Brett stops and turns around. Danny goes unnoticed behind the sofa for cover. Hassocks and Dr.Kibu stand up.
I was expecting you.
Brett
I wish, I could say the same.
Unnoticed by Hassocks Danny aims his pistol at Dr.Kibus head.
Sir John Hassocks
And Melanie. I'm surprised. I thought you much to ambitious to become suddenly sentimental.
Brett
Excuse me. This is what you call "mexican standoff".
Sir John Hassocks
I don't know, what you mean.
Brett
Oh, you see: if... if you hit me, my friend gonna hit your friend.
Sir John Hassocks
Hit him?
Brett
Hit him!
Danny hits Dr.Kibu, who falls on the sofa.
Brett
See?
He pulls out and hits Sir John Hassocks with a right hook. Then he runs with Melanie Sadler to the enterance hall. The crooks come through the secret door and shoot at Danny. He wants to shoot back, but his weapon is empty.
What?
He walks with his raised hands backwards out the door into the hall.
No, no w...wait a minute, fellows, wait, just take it easy...
+++++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Danny goes backwards pursued by the three crooks.
...now will you guys take it easy... now look, I don't want any trouble, here's your gun.
Danny kicks Hoodlum 1 in the shins. The man stumbles backwards against Jackson and brings him down. Brett grabs Hoodlum 2 in a wrestling grip and throws him into a corner. Danny throws Hoodlum 1 over the table.
Brett
Dispatch him, Daniel.
Danny
See you later.
He takes a sword from the wall and leaps over the table. Hoodlum 1 takes a sword and starts to fight with Danny.
Brett fights with Jackson, who takes an axe from one of the armors and tries to hit Brett. Jackson beheads another armor with the axe.
Danny fences with his opponent and hits him.
Brett kicks Jackson backwards and pushes Melanie Sadler out off the way.
Keep out of this.
Melanie Sadler watches Hoodlum 2 stands up.
Brett! Brett!
Brett hits Hoodlum 2. He kisses Melanie Sadlers hand. Danny wants to halve a pineapple on the fruit basket on the table, but it does not work. He parries an attack and bites into an apple from the fruit basket. Brett falls backwards against the first portrait on the wall of the stairs (a Sinclair of ca.1810). Jackson stucks the axe in the image while Brett escapes up the stairs. He goes backwards up the stairs, followed by Hoodlum 2 with a skewer and Jackson. At the top of the stairs he hides behind a curtain. When Jackson attacks him, he throws him over the railing of the gallery. Hoodlum 2 wrestles with him and throws Brett downstairs. He remains lying on his back at the foot of the stairs.
++++++
Greensleeves, Suite Congoto
Piers Emerson hears the noise from downstairs and goes to the door. Richard Congoto runs after him and clamps Emerson's hand with the gun in the door. Congoto gives him an uppercut.
++++++++
Greensleeves, Lobby
Danny swings on a chandelier through the entrance hall to the stairs. He stands between Brett and Hoodlum 2, who comes down the steps. Danny fends off the attack and knocks him unconscious. He stumbles, falls down the stairs and lands exactly on top of Brett.
Oh, oh.
Richard Congoto and his daughter run to the gallery. Brett pats Danny on his back, lying on him.
Richard Congoto to his daughter Carmen
That's the trouble with these english country house parties. Nothing ever happens.
Danny and Brett crawling around and over each other on the floor (aka Danny sits astride Brett, who grabs Danny's butt...)

Danny makes a feint with an imaginary sword in front of the fireplace.
Ha! That's what did it, you know. It was that double point. Because when he extended and cut in my cheek, I repost and cut his flank. That's what did him in.
He goes to Brett, who sits in a chair opposite Melanie Sadler on the sofa. Both sip from their full champagne glasses. Danny sits beside Melanie Sadler on the sofa, takes Bretts glass from his hand...
You know, I don't see any reason why we can't run around with swords strapped to our waist all the time.
…and drinks with an appreciative noise.
Brett
There's no reason whatsoever, Daniel, why we shouldn't, but it would be very exhausting.
Danny hands him back the half-full glass.
Wouldn't you like to go to bed now?
Brett sips from the glass.
Danny looks at Melanie Sadler
No, not particually. Accually I like to fence some more. Is there anybody in the household like...
Brett
Daniel, it's been a busy, busy day.
Danny returns to the fireplace
Oh, come on, where is your spir... Look at this house. Oh, what atmosphere!
He claps his hands and wanders to the wood cladded wall beside the fireplace.
I tell you, it must be wonderful to live here. That fencing sequence today was terrific.
Brett puts his glass aside when he sees Danny stepping on a wooden ledge.
Daniel. Daniel.
Danny
... because when he aimed at my head...
Brett quickly goes to a vase on one of the tables and take the lid off.
Wouldn't you like to take a really good look around?
Danny
I'll do it tomorrow. It was when he cut to my chee...
Brett puts his hand in the vase to work some secret mechanism and the wall behind Danny is rotating with him. He disappears behind the wall and you can hear him only muffled.
Brett saunters to Melanie Sadler
I.. I had a cousin who wandered around those tunnels weeks and weeks and weeks. Making noises. Just like that.
He sits down opposite her and kisses her. (Buhhh!)
