EU membership: Pros and Cons?
As an introductory post, I just wanted to get a general opinion of people here....
Do you think EU membership for the Baltic states is a good thing, bad thing or a mixed bag?
I personally think mixed bag, as while it should provide some protection and safeguards from history repeating itself through links to the West, I'm also concerned about cultural preservation since it seems like some things are being very united in other parts of the EU and local cultures are suffering somewhat.
And as a personal introduction, I'm an almost-21 year old female, Latvian by ethnicity, born and raised in Canada. I will be travelling to the Baltics this summer.
