You can also discover unique interactions and endings which will permanently boost future run scores!
• [Encounter] Added a new encounter type: futanari (receiving) sex. After purchasing the spell "supra ambae", Iris can transform other women into futas to have sex with them! You can switch to having anal sex after the encounter starts if you want to, but you can't currently switch back.
• [Art] Tons of new CGs have been added! New base CG set variants and action cut-ins have been added to the vaginal, anal, and futanari encounter types!

  • New outfit: Lace Dress. This outfit can be purchased in Ranbol after completing [Dryad Magic Arc: Darkness Taking Root]. This outfit has a premium variant.
  • Added premium outfit variants to existing outfits: one for the simple dress, and one for the evening dress.

Additions and enhancements

• [Interface]
  • Rearranged the order of spells for various schools to create a more consistent experience for players.
  • Added a new setting, which will be on by default: Rotation tips. When on, this setting will highlight spells you may want to cast next based on the current combat conditions. These might not always be the best moves to make, but generally, following this guidance will help you perform basic spell rotations that deal decent damage. Some spells have such specific conditions that they might not ever be recommended by this simply system's algorithm, though, so it's still best that you read the spell and aura descriptions and familiarize yourself with each spell in your arsenal! And of course, if this whole thing annoys you, just turn it off!
  • Added new sound effects and voicework to sexual encounters!
  • Altered base volume of certain audio tracks.
  • Significantly sped up the spell school acquisition "runes" animation.

Balance and progression

• [Combat] Balance adjustments.
  • Nerfed the spell Purge. Base damage and critical damage were both reduced. In exchange, the spell's MP cost was lowered and the spell's crit rate was slightly improved. Purge is just too good for a turn 1 nuke, even if it can't be relied on consistently.
• [Pregnancy] Adjusted rates and other basic settings.
  • Altered the base odds of getting different ranks of spirit kin. Was 50%/45%/5% for a B/A/S rank kin. The odds are now 48%/42%/10%.
  • Adjusted rates of pregnancy. Futanari (receiving) sex can now make Iris pregnant by default if she takes at least one internal creampie in her vagina during the encounter.
• [Goals] Adjusted the requirements for some goals, particularly the leveling ones, and added other new ones.
• [Skits] Skits can now only occur if you've visited a location at least once before.

Technical

• [Engine] Implemented Steam achievements! This system integrates with the goals system such that loading an existing save into the Steam Edition should immediately unlock all relevant achievements!

• [Cosmetics] System updates.
  • New outfit dyeing system introduced! Change the hue, saturation, brightness, and sheerness of any outfit! Can be done at the seamstresses in Ranbol or Ivald (not in the village). Requires bottles of dye, which can be acquired in limited quantities in the game world, and also purchased via throne realm attendants.
  • New items: dyes and fabrics. Can be found in limited quantities in the world, occasionally purchased from apothecaries, and traded with other players via the throne realm network. A bolt of fabric can be traded to the seamstress for a single player outfit in lieu of spending G. Bottles of dye are required, in addition to G for labor, to dye your clothes at the seamstress. You can unlock the option to dye clothing by visiting the seamstress after finding at least one bottle of dye.
• [Combat] Defeated enemies now have a small chance to drop items! They can drop dyes and fabrics, as well as rarer materials that will have uses in the future.
• [Art] Meila has been added to the futanari CGs.

Balance and progression

• [Progression] The level cap has been reaised to the maximum level of 50. This is likely the final time the level cap will be raised.
• [World] Items have been added to the apothecary shop. Some rare items, like dyes and fabrics, have a small chance to be available for purchase from time to time, in limited quantities.

• [Combat] Several mild to moderate bug fixes! I spent some time over the last two weeks doing a code review as I'm preparing to implement a new difficulty in a future version, so I caught many, many bugs!
  • Fixed a bug in the lance spell that prevented the bonus wounds from critical hits from applying correctly at expertise rank 2.
  • Fixed a bug in the firelight form spell that prevented the player from getting bonus haste stacks when the enemy had fate stacks.
  • Fixed a typo that made the haste aura's defense boost significantly higher than intended.
  • Fixed a typo that caused stack counts for some auras to be less effective than intended when experiencing diminishing returns.
  • Fixed a bug that made MP and HP restoratives less effective than intended, sometimes by quite a lot. This has been in the game since day one and I never noticed, lol.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the upkeep processing of certain auras to be skipped when auras were scheduled for removal during normal decay.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the upkeep processing of certain enemy skill cooldowns to be skipped, causing cooldowns to last longer than strictly intended.
  • Fixed a bug that caused multiple selection and deletion of spirit kin to be inconsistent.

  • Spirit kin gained by giving birth can now be assigned as familiars!. You can designate up to three kin to be your familiars, essentially "equipping" them. When equipped, familiars grant various bonuses and your main familiar grants special combat effects!
  • Added Curse magic. Mediocre damage output overall, but excellent for setting up or converting auras, and shreds enemy defense. Best when paired with high damage or sustained damage schools. Pairs well with lunar magic for burst damage and with primal magic for easy aura building. Compliments black magic as well for easier aura management.
• [Interface] Tweaked the volume levels of certain audio tracks.

Balance and progression

• [Story] Added a new way for [Sky Magic Arc: Stars of Fate] to be started to improve the odds of players naturally stumbling upon the quest. You can now receive the letter from Joseph from a courier while out in the world in certain public locations.
• [Combat] Overhauled enemy AI! Enemies will now behave less randomly and try to push the advantage when they can. Furthermore, most enemies will no longer heal as much when they don't need to, and even aggressive enemies will focus a bit on defensive moves when their HP is critical. In addition, several other balance changes were made:
  • Aetherflame's crit rate and aura generation have both been boosted by a small amount.
  • Firelight form's self-damage has been normalized and no longer factors enemy auras.
  • The damage of time magic's second expertise passive (the deflection counter attack) has been moderately reduced.
  • Spell-based physical damage now inflicts fewer fate stacks to targets under the effects of the fate aura than dagger attacks.
  • Most enemy healing skills had their internal cooldowns increased slightly.

Version 0.3.0 (Premium Update)

2026-05-05 — v0.3.0 This premium update adds a tone of new content to the game! Use a new spell to become a futanari indefinitely, and freely switch back and forth between futa and female forms! In addition to that type of new 'equipment,' this update also adds a new spell school, new daggers, and new skills!

Skirt the mountains of northern Ivald and make your way to a brand new city location. Take on the all-new royale mode, face off against new enemies and a powerful new boss, and make friends with the gorgeous and mysterious new character, Momoko. This update also adds new cosmetics, new quests, new erotica, and last but not least—complete and user-accessible mod tools!

• [Story] Added the new quest [Time Magic Arc: Mountain Massacre]. You can start [Time Magic Arc: Mountain Massacre] after permanently unlocking the Grassroot Inn as a location. Use the option to "head north" into the taiga and the quest will start automatically.
• [Locations] New world locations have been added: Ivald and the taiga.
  • Use the new "head north" option at the Grassroot Inn to enter the taiga location, which will eventually lead you to Ivald.
• [Art] Tons of new art was added for the futanari content as well as new locations, new sprites, new cosmetics, and new characters!
• [Encounter] Added a new encounter type: "polishing." After meeting certain conditions, this activity can be performed at the bathhouse in Ranbol! It's one of several services that you will be able to provide in the bathhouse in the future! This new encounter type features a ton of new mechanics, and is very different from the other encounter types and existing activities in the game, so I hope you'll enjoy it!
• [Erotica] Added futanari form and several new related activities as well as a new encounter type!
  • Added mentions of Iris's new equipment, when relevant, to dozens of places throughout the game.
  • Masturbate while in futanari form to see new futanari masturbation scenes! This applies to public masturbation, outdoor/night masturbation, masturbation at the chapel, and of course, masturbation while teasing Meila.
  • New CGs and art variants were also added to normal (non-futa) masturbation scenes.
• [Cosmetics] New outfits.
  • New outfit: Elegant Kimono. This outfit can be purchased in Ivald.
  • New outfit: Lycoris Kimono. Gained by defeating Ibaraki Momoko in the taiga. This outfit has a premium variant, which adds the oni mask. There is no hat on this outfit, but you can toggle the display of the sword using the headgear option in the game settings.
  • New outfits for attendants based on Ivaldan styles! Some of these outfits are Patreon-exclusives, while others can be bought at the seamstress in Ivald.

Additions and enhancements

• [World] Added snow! Instead of raining in colder climates, the game will play a snow effect. This can still be used the same way as rain for the purposes of sky magic.
• [Combat] Added new spell schools and a new dagger as well as several new enemies and a new boss! Also included is a new combat-oriented game mode: royale mode. Also added new auras and items!
  • Royale Mode is a new combat challenge mode. You can participate by going to the Ibaraki Estate (Momoko's house) in Ivald. Face off against a group of enemies one after the other to earn "cultivation," a new resource that will be used to upgrade mantras. Try to beat the royale challenges in as few rounds as possible!
  • Added rematches for Despoena, the avid assassin boss (from [Dyrad Magic Arc: Darkness Taking Root]), and the new boss Momoko to the throne realm. Despoena's rematch is essentially an entirely new fight, since it keeps going after her tidal attack, unlike when you fight her in the story! This version is also buffed a bit and called Great Demon Despoena. It's a fight that's now exclusive to rematches and royale mode, so check it out!
  • Added Time magic. A unique school of magic that has various utility effects and a unique interaction with physical damage. The haste aura allows the caster to occasionally perform additional actions, while the fate aura can be used to multiply physical damage output over time. Extremely high damage output, but takes time to set up. Gained from a tome found in the taiga area.
  • New dagger: Timekeeper. Converts stacks of brave into stacks of haste, and grants additional stacks of haste when the target is under the effect of the fate aura. Made to pair well with time magic. Found in the taiga area.
  • New dagger: Whitenight Blade. A dagger with a nearly white blade said to be forged with steel that absorbed moonlight for hundreds of years. This dagger's damage is enhanced at night, based on the phases of the moon, and even more so if the enemy is inflicted with madness. Can be purchased for silver coins in the challenge shop in the throne realm after meeting certain conditions.
  • Added new consumable items: Succubus Semen, Potent Succubus Semen, and Flask of Sake.
• [Skills] Some new skills have been added!
  • Ambae: A spell to that Iris can you to turn herself into a futanari and back again. Costs no MP, and Iris will use it automatically when a scene requires one form or the other. You cannot yet turn NPCs into futas; this, alongside naturally occurring futas in the game world, will be a mid-term future feature.
  • Moonshade: A combat ability that Iris can use to create a false "mini-moon" in an area. Overrides the current time to temporarily make an area register as night and empowers effects that normally require the full moon. Can only be used in the day. You need to have lunar magic and reach a certain point in the story to unlock this ability.
• [Skits] Added some unique skits for Ivald. Ivald has different law enforcement than Ranbol as well, so new variants to those skits have been added!
• [Interface] Made some mostly minor changes.
  • Adjusted fonts.
  • Added a new secondary rain effect. This effect is a bit less convincing and is modeled after the new snow effect. It's more performance friendly, so it has been added to the "performance boost" mode, and will replace the old rain effect in that mode.
  • Added new music tracks and sound effects. Added some new sound effects to certain older cutscenes to improve the presentation.

Balance and progression

• [Story] Adjusted quest steps and trigger conditions for some quests, adding to the potential the nonlinearity of some events.
• [Combat] Adjusted some enemy and boss stats, usually reducing some HP values to make longer fights a little shorter. Some enemy skills have been buffed, as well, particularly ones with cooldowns and MP costs. Combat in general should be a little faster and more deadly on both sides.
• [Progression] The level cap has been raised to 30.
• [Locations] Adjusted the conditions by which a checkmark will appear on a node when exploring a dangerous zone. Now, the checkmark will typically only appear once there's nothing left to do at that node. For example, previously, merely visiting the ruins area node of the borderlands would produce a checkmark. Now the checkmark will only appear after you slay the banneress and get the resulting rewards.

Technical

• [Mod Tools] Added the new "editor" tool! This is accessed in the browser or Windows versions from the "scene editor" menu, which has been renamed to "mod tools." The editor is a stripped down version of Twine that's already set up to be used to generate Hex mods. I will be releasing a video tutorial in the near future showing the mod tools, including this new editor off. The asset library, which has been in the game for a while now, but made inaccessible to players, will also be usable going forward.
• [Combat] Skills are now deep-copied when sent to the damage manager system. This means auras, abilities, and battle conditions can now directly effect every aspect of a skill, not just certain defined parameters. This is how the new ki and spellblade auras work: the copy of the skill sent to the damage manager can now be altered by auras to boost the skill's deflection difficulty class, or even to make it impossible to deflect at all.

Version 0.2.3 (Patch)

2026-02-26 — v0.2.3 This patch adds an experimental new real-time gameplay mode! Also included is a new 'personality' system for NPC partners, to change the flavor of sexual encounters. The system is fairly limited right now, but more improvements are coming soon! In addition, I've added new erotic content, new cosmetics, new mantras, and rebalanced lunar magic a bit to hopefully help lunar and nightsea magic both feel a little more viable in the face of the juggernaut that is sky magic.

This version of the game also marks the release of Hex's Steam page and demo. Wishlist the game on Steam now! More information about the Steam Edition will be coming closer to its release.

  • [Asana: Untouched Pasture] Boosts dagger damage based on the ratio of current MP to maximum MP. Received as a reward from Red Sand for reaching rank 3.
• [Skills] Some new skills have been added!
  • Nightsea Radiance: Allows you to summon the Astral Apparel outfit when nude and dismiss it at will. Functionally the same as the existing Dryad's Vestments spell, but summons an elegant outfit rather than a slutty one.
  • Spiritual Insemination: Most sex acts, including lesbian sex, can now result in pregnancy, though at a reduced rate compared to vaginal sex.
• [Encounter] Added new "personality" system to alter the dialogue from sex partners. For now, there are only two personality types: normal and shy, alongside some special interactions for partners under transformation effects (e.g., vicis). In the future, there will be even more personalities!

Balance and progression

• [Combat] Adjusted lunar magic. While the damage of the school at higher expertise levels and in ideal conditions is slightly lower, the overall usability should be improved, and madness should now have a slightly more unique identity in your kit compared to lust. The expertise passives of the school have been shuffled around a bit. In addition to the below changes, the spell lunacy's damage also received a slight buff.
  • Adjusted the base damage of all lunar magic spells. This is a slight damage nerf overall.
  • Second expertise passive has been removed (originally this passive boosted damage bonus at night from +15% to +30%). Now damage is always boosted at a rate of +25% by default.
  • The first expertise passive (boosts lunar magic damage based on rot stacks) was moved to the second expertise passive slot.
  • A new first expertise passive has been added: "When madness causes an enemy to flinch, the caster regenerates a small amount of MP."
  • The third passive, which grants the spell avelunacy a chance to add 20 bonus madness stacks, is unchanged.
  • Further changes may be warranted, but for now I don't want to change too much at once.
• [Activities] Made a few adjustments to Red Sand progression and brothel mode's information gathering system. The base odds to receive information has been increased. The amount of information you have to gather to rank up has been halved. For ongoing saves, this should retroactively apply the next time you turn in information in the brothel's backroom.
• [Progression] The level cap has been raised to 20.

Technical

• [Engine] Created and shipped a Steam demo based on v0.2.3. The demo is now available on Hex's Steam page. The demo just covers the first part of the game up until you leave the village. Saves can be transferred from the demo into the full version, but not vice versa. For now, other than the overlay, no other Steam features are supported yet, but achievements are planned, and I want to try to work on cloud saves as well for the Steam Edition. Hex will release into Early Access on Steam sometime later this year or early next year. Wishlist it now!

In addition to becoming a mommy, Iris can also become a bit of a dommy as she gets to know the new character Despoena, who she can recruit as a glorified maid.   • Removed the "breathing" animation on Iris's arms when in combat. I may introduce a similar animation in the future, but this specific one kind of always looked off and I decided that I don't like it anymore.
  • Added a setting to prevent the playing of licensed audio, as I'm planning on adding some vocal tracks to certain scenes in the game, and these will potentially get you flagged if you were to stream the game or record and upload video content. If you turn this setting on, an alternate track will play instead during these scenes. None of these scenes are featured in the game yet, however.
  • Rewrote certain portions of the about menu.
• [Skits] NPCs will now sometimes react to Iris wearing clothes designated as "elegant." These clothes are made from finer materials and in designs more fit for nobles, so people may begin treating her accordingly. Buttons for elegant clothes are colored differently in the wardrobe interface. The new Evening Dress and Cocktail Dress outfits are considered elegant, and the Calamity Gown has retroactively received this designation.

Technical

• [Engine] Improved file handling of plugins and mods and made the mod loading system more robust and resistant to errors. Mods and plugins can also now overwrite some core game data, including existing passages or passages from other mods, when a certain flag in the mod/plugins settings is engaged. This will allow modders to replace most existing game content.

  • When the game client accesses the server to download the basic game configuration, if the client's version is lower than the configuration's version, instead of simply failing to load the server settings and plugins silently, an alert will be displayed, letting the player know that a new version of the game is available to be downloaded.

Whenever a mod or plugin is no longer available and a saved game depending on modded content is loaded, the save data should restore sane defaults where possible. For example, if the player cannot be loaded into a location because the save file points to a location that is no longer available due to a mod being uninstalled, the player will spawn as the chapel. In other cases, modded data is simply ignored and hidden; for example, if the player save file tries to access data for quests, goals, or items that don't exist, these entries in menus are simply hidden, but will be re-shown if a mod containing data for them is re-installed.

  • Reduced the damage inflicted by poison across all stack ranges by ~15%.
  • Adjusted the Holy magic spell Purge by slightly reducing its critical hit damage (205% -> 195%) and the damage enhancement from striking an unsanctioned enemy (~250% -> ~240%), but boosting the base damage to compensate (131 -> 144). Because of the way damage is calculated, the buff to base damage should make the spell stronger on average even though the critical damage and enhanced damage multipliers were reduced.
  • Lowered Astraea's defense (206 -> 180) and HP (2200 -> 2000) in demon form.

Hex: Becoming a Succubus no longer supports Windows 7 and 8 or 32-bit (x86) Windows systems. The web and offline browser versions should still be playable on these older systems.   • Added a major activity to the brothel: serving clients. This is a safe and legal form of prostitution that generally pays better than street solicitation, but also usually takes a little longer and requires a bit more effort, as Iris will have to entertain a client on a date in the brothel's lounge prior to having sex with them.
  • Some smaller activities and actions are available all over Ranbol and its sub-locations, like shops with new inventories in the city's marketplace, the public bathhouse offers a unique spin on hygiene, there are some new unique NPCs to chat with in various areas, and more.
• [Erotica] In addition to the new stuff enumerated below, I also went back and added variants and alternate scenes to a lot of stuff already in the game!
  • New interactions with Meila are available in the throne realm! These are dependent on Iris and Meila having sufficient affinity, and Meila having sufficient corruption. Kissing: Iris can ask Meila for kisses after meeting certain conditions. There are a few scene variations available. These are some of my favorite scenes in the game so far even though it's not even anything that intense. I highly recommend trying these out! Step on her: Iris can "step" on Meila, engaging in some light dominant foot play with her.
  • Urinating on NPCs. Iris can now pee on NPCs after acquiring the relevant skill. This releases her pheromones, which has a seductive effect on them.
  • New ways to unlock nudism. New events in the city and the bathhouse where Iris loses her clothes can allow you to permanently unlock the ability to leave the chapel nude. Once you've unlocked this, you can also strip at the inn in the city and leave naked from there. Note that being nude in the city is a crime!
  • Some (mostly one-off) erotic scenes with Gemma, Longren, and Lloyd have been added! Note that you cannot fuck these characters yet; romance paths with major NPCs are coming in a future version. You can also bump into these characters at the public bathhouse for more hijinks!
  • After meeting certain conditions, you'll be able to have sex with Lem (Gemma's adjunct) from time to time when you bump into him in the city. In future updates, you'll be able to do more with him.
• [Encounter] Added a new encounter type: Exposure Play. You can do this when wearing a towel in a sufficiently populated location, or at the bathhouse. You will be able to progressively expose your body and strip, eventually opening and even throwing off the towel! In addition to Iris's pleasure meter, there's also an alert meter, which will cause you to get caught if it fills completely, immediately ending the encounter and leading to a confrontation, where the passersby who noticed your lewd actions will confront you (probably in a sexy way!).

• [Skits] Added many new skits! The notoriety system is also documented here because it is handled via the game's skits system.
  • Added the notoriety system. As you perform illegal actions in places where the law is enforced, Iris will gain notoriety. As her notoriety increases knights and even eventually inquisitors will begin to harass and attack her. Iris can seduce, trick, or fight these pursuers. Generally, getting one over on the knights or inquisitors, regardless of how you do it, will reduce your notoriety. Notoriety also decays slowly over time. You can also pay Liz at the Crimson Lantern in Ranbol to remove your bounty, resetting your notoriety. Actions that are considered illegal (or that might be illegal in certain circumstances) are bordered in red.
  • NPCs will now react to Iris wearing outfits designated as "slutty" when in public. These outfits are designated in the wardrobe with differently colored buttons. Unlike walking around naked, wearing a slutty outfit is not considered illegal. Further interactions and events based on wearing slutty/non-slutty clothes will be coming in the future!
  • Added a ton of new skits; a major focus of this update was just getting more skits into the game. Most of these are for Ranbol and its sublocations, but some are for other locations as well.
• [Skills] New succubus skills and spells are available.
  • Vesica: This existing field spell was enhanced to allow Iris to cast it on herself. Urination has been moved onto a 3-period cooldown (from a 1-period cooldown). Casting this spell immediately enables urination and puts urination on a 1-period cooldown for the next 6 time periods.
  • Saltus: A succubus field spell that allows Iris to instantly teleport to the throne realm at the chapel for a relatively small amount of MP.
  • Battle Strip: Allows Iris to remove her clothes during combat. She will put her clothes back on afterward. The benefit of this would be to get the "appeal" effect, which causes a passive lust effect on the enemy.
  • Odorifera: This skill allows you to pee on generic NPCs. This action will generally cause an effect similar to the spell avidus, that is, it will generally seduce the NPC thanks to Iris's "pheromones." You have to be able to urinate to perform this action, but it costs no MP.
  • Urinary Pheromones: After urinating in a location, the rate customers appear and the amount they pay for prostitution is boosted for three time periods in the area.
  • Moist Mating Presence: This skill makes your "watergun attack" ability inflict lust stacks when used in combat.
  • Perception Scrambling: This skill reduces the chance of your crimes being reported by about 25%, and therefore lowers the rate at which you gain notoriety when performing illegal actions.
  • Perception Blocking: This is an upgrade of the above and enhances the effect, reducing the chance that your crimes are reported by around 55% (in total).
• [Combat] In addition to new enemies and bosses, the following major new combat features have been added:
  • Added a new type of ability: Mantras. Mantras can be equipped in the gear menu, and grant the player special passive abilities in exchange for "reserving" a certain amount of MP. Reserved MP can still be used to cast spells, but doing so while in combat can trigger a "manableed" which deals a large amount of damage and saps MP over time. More powerful mantras reserve a larger portion of the player's MP. The portion reserved is represented by dark shading on the MP meter. The following mantras are available in this version:
    • [Swara: The Empty Cup] Inflict wounds when deflecting enemy attacks.
    • [Viveka: Cloudless Daylight] Can perform counterspells even without using the sanction aura.
    • [Prajna: Shining Mirror] Perfect deflections restore a small amount of MP, but early deflections count as missed deflections.
    • [Shakti: Distant Silver Moon] Being nude in combat enhances the effects of both the madness and lust auras.
  • Added a new magic spell school: Holy Magic, along with its three spells and three expertise ranks. Description: "Utility magic for hindering enemy spellcasters. The sanction aura allows enemy spells to be countered and dispelled. High initial burst damage, but damage output drops off quickly. Pairs well with sky magic for aura management and lunar magic to control and hinder enemies of all sorts."
  • New defense option: counterspell. When an enemy spellcaster under the effect of the sanction aura casts an attack spell, Iris will be given a chance to dispel the magic by inputting a series of "counter signs" in the correct order within a short time period. Successfully countering an enemy spell nullifies it and grants the caster a few stacks of kinesis. It is possible to partially counter complex spells by running out of time but otherwise inputting the sequence correctly, which will instead only significantly reduce the spell's damage.
  • Added a new dagger: "Branching Blade." It's designed to nicely compliment dryad magic.
  • Enemy knights and inquisitors in Ranbol have the new auras reprise and reflect, which work a little differently than most previously introduced auras. Knights have various ways to grant themselves reprise stacks which enhance defense. They have a chance to perform a highly damaging counterattack when attacked with physical damage when they have reprise stacks. The chance of the counterattack happening is based on the number of stacks while the damage is based on both the number of stacks and on the damage of the attack being countered. Inquisitors can grant themselves the reflect aura; once they have this aura, physical damage reduces the stacks of reflect they have, but all physical damage is severely reduced, while magical, fire, and lightning damage increased the number of reflect stacks they have. After reaching 99 stacks of reflect, the inquisitor will cast the special spell "breaklightning" at the end of the turn, dealing massive damage. Other auras have also been added, but I felt these two deserved special mention.
  • A new enemy witch has been added. I don't want to spoil anything, but the fight against her features many new mechanics and unique auras! Her rematch will be added in a future update.
• [Interface] Made some minor adjustments to the UI; mostly slight color and alpha tweaks. Changed the icon for incomplete content tips.
  • New combat voice lines for Iris. Iris now occasionally mocks enemies after a deflection, kiyaps when using a dagger, and shouts or says an incantation when casting a spell. These combat barks only have about a 30% chance of happening, so I hope they won't get too grating to listen to over time.
  • Reworked orgasm audio. During encounters, when a partner orgasms, the ongoing sex audio loop now suspends until a new action is selected. This does not occur when Iris orgasms by herself. Also added sound effects for males ejaculating, including variations for internal vaginal/anal creampies and for throatpies (featuring gagging and sloppy mouth noises☻).
  • Cleaned up some audio sound effects and music tracks, and added some additional music tracks.
  • Removed the section of the settings menu where content settings were to be listed. I no longer plan to add content settings to Hex, instead I'm going to try to make most non-vanilla and non-core content optional, always requiring a clearly denoted opt-in via a clearly labeled option or via a skill purchase or similar. If this becomes untenable, in the future, I will revisit the idea of content settings.
  • Removed the "sexual style" part of the character screen and replaced it with a modal that shows your current "sex attributes." I plan to do something with these values in the future, but for now you can only look at them.
• [Events] Added a "seasonal events" setting. Enabling this makes all events available even when out of season. Right now the only event is the Trick-or-Treat seasonal event (which is set to be automatically available in October and November from now on), so this setting just toggles that event. In the future more seasonal events will be added. You must have an Internet connection to play the event as it is managed by the server.

Balance and progression

• [Combat] The following balance and system adjustments have been made to combat:
  • The aura keen now directly influences critical hit rate rather than adding a separate mechanic for improved damage attacks. This is technically a net nerf, but because in the future certain mantras and auras will influence or depend on critical hits, this will end up being a long-term buff to the player and make the aura more broadly useful. It also simplifies what I felt was a bit of a needlessly complex aura.
  • Increased the effect the attack and defense stats have on damage output. These stats should be about twice as influential as in the previous damage calculation, but still not quite as influential as in older versions of the alpha (v0.0.8α and earlier). This should also improve auras that influence attack and defense specifically, since these felt especially weak after the previous damage calculation change.
  • Rebalanced some enemy stats. In general, most enemies have a bit less health or defense, but I also adjusted many enemy skills to deal more damage (enemy attack power was mostly unchanged, however). I also reduced the "tier" of many enemies, which influences the G and XP rewards they grant, so there might be a slight nerf to combat XP and G gains through the earlier portions of the game.
  • Perfect deflections are slightly more difficult; I sped up the animations at all stages slightly across the board and reduced the length of the "grace period." I still don't think the interaction is very hard, and I don't want it to be that hard, but it's a little less of a complete gimme now.
• [Needs] Iris now has a 3-period cooldown on urination, same as lactation. This is because several of the new urination-based skills are quite powerful. In exchange, the spell "Vesica" that can induce urination can now be cast one oneself, immediately allowing urination and causing urination to refresh every time period for six time periods like before.
• [Progression] Player level cap raised to 11. Some other caps for things like Meila's corruption and player reputation were also raised or removed.

Technical

• [Tooling] Added the "scene editor." While very minimal right now, this tool will be the backbone of mod support in the future. It can be enabled in the game's settings, which will make it accessible from the main menu.
• [Engine] It is my goal for Hex to handle browser reloads without any major bugs or continuity problems, since often modern browsers trigger reloads when tabs are left running in the background for an extended period of time, thus a future-proofed game needs to gracefully handle browser reloads without any loss of user data. In pursuit of this goal, I've enhanced several session-tracking features of the engine and also made it possible for the certain parts of the game to be designated as "unstable," allowing refreshes to walk back the engine state to the last "stable" part of the game in certain cases. For example, when reloading a combat or sex encounter, you are returned to the start of that encounter (this was always the case, but the method by which this is accomplished has changed). In another example, when reloading a brothel date, you are returned to the scene where you speak to Liz just before the date starts, as this is the last time the game state was considered stable.
  • Performance improvements and some technical updates, particularly to animations and rendering. Deflection should now be much smoother!
  • I also backported some nice new and useful APIs from newer versions of SugarCube into Subtle. I'll probably fully document these APIs separately. As more time passes, SugarCube and Subtle have less and less in common, and at this point, the contemporary SugarCube documentation is basically useless for working with Subtle.
• [Web Ver.] There is now a separate CDN-dependent web version; the offline browser version contains all assets in its own archive while the web version does not. This CDN-dependent web version will be the successor to the previously available "web player" version of the game.

Version 0.0.9 – Leaving the Alpha Behind

2024-06-16 — v0.0.9 — Leaving the Alpha Behind This is a Patron Edition exclusive release!

This release marks the end of Hex's alpha stage of development! From now on, the game will officially be titled Hex: Becoming a Succubus (though I'll still call it Hex for short) and will be entering a regular development cycle similar to that of Succubus Stories before it! This update is fairly small, but includes some story and erotic content. It will also add the plug-in and server settings systems, allowing me to push small updates to the game remotely for players, both to test new ideas out, host neat community events, and to hopefully tide players over for a bit!

Warning

Starting in this version, Hex will no longer support Windows 7 and 8; furthermore, support for 32-bit (x86) Windows systems will be ending in v0.1.0. The web and offline browser versions should still be playable on these older systems, however. If necessary, you can use the "Save to disk" and "Load from disk" options to transfer saves between versions.

This change is necessary to improve the game's performance and playability. Thank you for your understanding!

Bug fixes

• [World] Fixed more issues with rain, my eternal nemesis. The rain effect now mostly shows up when it's supposed to, and mostly doesn't stay when it's not supposed to. You'd think I'm doing brain surgery here. It rains indoors sometimes, sometimes it rains when it's not raining, but mostly it just randomly stops raining for one screen or one cutscene/combat/encounter when it's supposed to keep going, only to resume normally the next screen. Most of these issues (>90%) have been fixed, but it still happens sometimes.
• [Misc.] Fixed several other issues and typos! Some specific issues that were fixed:
  • Fixed issues with BGM; sometimes after combat/encounters, previous ambient or story BGM was not properly restored.
  • Fixed issues with the poison aura dealing much lower damage than intended.
  • Fixed a calculation error with the embers aura that prevented elemental damage from being scaled correctly.

• [Event] A live event themed around autumn and Halloween will be running from October 21 to November 11. As long as the game is connected to the Internet, you should be able to play the event when it launches!
• [Story] Added the quest "Lunar Magic Arc: Thorns of a Rose," which introduces new characters, includes a new boss fight, and rewards players with a new school of magic!
• [Art] Added new CGs!
  • Added cut-ins for anal sex and finished the cut-in sets for all the other encounter types except footjobs. Added CGs for the new cuddling activity with Meila.
• [Cosmetics] Two new outfits for Iris.
  • You can buy the the Halloween 2024 outfit from the seamstress. This outfit will be 75% off during the month of October! This outfit can't be obtained from the offering box, but may be added in the future.
  • You can earn the Mummy Costume outfit from the "Trick or Treat" live event, which will go live on October 21. You'll be able to acquire the outfit after earning 200 pieces of candy during the event.
• [Activity] New major features have been added to the throne realm.
  • Practice and test out your defensive moves, like deflection, in the reflecting pool. You can also try out a few different challenges to earn silver coins.
  • You can now engage in rematches with defeated bosses in the throne realm's reflecting pool. You can fulfill goals you've previously missed, and gain silver coins for winning and flawlessly winning these rematches. Note that you cannot earn XP and G from rematches.
  • The challenge shop is a new shop in the throne realm that allows you to trade in silver coins for various prizes, including tinctures, money, and new gear.
• [Erotica] You can engage in cuddling with Meila in the throne realm. You must meet certain requirements for this, mostly in regards to "corrupting" Meila. You'll be able to go further with her in the future, too!

Additions and enhancements

• [Interface] Various improvements. Here are the key changes:
  • Added message history function to cutscenes. Click or tap the icon in the top right, or press the L hotkey to access the message history.
  • Pressing Ctrl in sandbox mode now toggles the game menu. It still toggles the textbox when in cutscene, combat, and encounter modes. I made this change because in browsers, Esc will exit fullscreen mode, which may be annoying for some users, and I thought adding another hotkey option was better than overriding the normal function of Esc.
  • Redesigned the magic menu.
  • Added an clickable indicator and modal to quests and quest steps that are not completable in the current game version.
• [Combat] Added a new spell school and made several balance adjustments.
  • Added the spell school "dryad magic," its aura "thorn-pierced," and three new spells and three new expertise passives! As well as new graphics for the school. This spell school is unlocked during the quest "Lunar Magic Arc: Thorns of a Rose." Dryad magic has a focus on dealing bursts of physical damage by manipulating and converting auras, but has high MP costs.
  • New aura: thorn-pierced, which enhances physical damage taken by the target. Every time the target takes physical damage, there is a chance for the thorns to "bloom," dealing a large amount of damage and inflicting a number of wound stacks while clearing the thorn-pierced aura.
  • Added a new weapon, the wakizashi. With this dagger, Iris has a chance to chain multiple attacks together in a single turn, and every fourth attack with the weapon triggers the "blood loss" effect, dealing an extra burst of physical damage. It's high rate of physical attacks makes it pair nicely with the new dryad magic spell school.
  • Added a new story boss fight. Complete the quest "Lunar Magic Arc: Thorns of a Rose" to unlock her rematch challenge in the throne realm.
• [Skits] Added new conversations with Meila. Many of these are conditional based on your actions and story progress.

Balance and progression

• [Combat]
  • Adjusted the damage calculation. For the most part, attack and defense have a little less of an influence on damage than before.
  • Adjusted the accuracy of most spells. In general, most of the player's spells are now slightly more accurate, meaning the player will miss less often. Most spells also now have lower critical hit rates by default, but the bonus from spell school expertise has been increased.
  • Adjusted the based damage, cooldowns, and MP costs of some enemy skills. Most of these skills were made more powerful.
  • Buffed Gemma's attack slightly. Also reduced the MP costs of some of her skills.
• [Progression]
  • Growth curve for some player stats has been adjusted.
  • Player level cap raised to 7.

Technical

• [Engine] Several changes, performance optimizations, and improvements. Optimized the order of media loading and rendering in complex scenes.
  • The game client now loads configs from the server, allowing for remote balance changes.
  • The game now features basic support for mods and plug-ins. Plug-ins are like mods but remotely managed in game clients via the server.
  • Currently, in-game interfaces for managing mods and mod tools for users are in an early stage of development.
• [Web Ver.] Textures and backgrounds can also now be loaded from the CDN in addition to sprites and CGs. Audio is also a target for future integration with the CDN service, but I think audio issues impact the feel of the game less than art issues, and the more I offload to CDN services, the more I have to pay, so I'm loathe to move the heavy-ass audio files over.
