Privacy Policy

Our lives are under constant assault by the many websites we visit, as the most obscure private details of our lives are gobbled up by algorithms and sold to advertisers and marketers. But that was the price we decided to pay so that we could post cat photos and share memes for free.

I have no desire to add to that mess, which is one of the reasons why I don’t sell ads on Opus nor do I directly collect any user data in the form of comments or any other form submissions. I previously used Google Analytics to capture information about the site’s users (i.e., you), but have since switched to Tinylytics, a GDPR-compliant analytics tool that doesn’t set cookies or store any user-identifiable information. (Read more about my switch to Tinylytics.)

Occasionally, I do add embedded content (e.g., YouTube videos, Bandcamp players) to my posts. Embedded content may set cookies, collect your information, and track your behavior just as if you’d visited the original site directly. This is particularly true if you have an account at the original site and are logged into that account. If you’re concerned about how embedded content affects your privacy, then consult the original site’s privacy policy.

Contact me if you have any questions about Opus and your online privacy.
