npckc

info

hi, i'm npckc. i make games to connect with other people.

i also do translation & other stuff.

if you want more info, here are a few answers for some common topics.

i'm npckc (pronouns they/she), or kc for short. i've made over 50 little (& not so little) games. i was born in hong kong, grew up in canada, & now live in japan, so i speak english, japanese & cantonese (in order of most to least fluent). feel free to contact me in any of the above languages!

i also do translation for games & other media - mostly japanese-to-english, though i've done english-to-japanese on occasion - & i do other freelance work sometimes too. mostly i just make my own games full-time though.

(for more specific queer-y stuff, i'm ace/aro & nonbinary. i'm sharing this info here because when i was younger, i didn't know anybody who was openly ace/aro or nonbinary, so it took me a long time to figure things out. it was only after encountering the words for it in media like games that i even had the vocabulary to research more & understand who i was! so i'm writing this here for younger me & other people who might be like younger me 💛)

some games that have influenced me are ace attorney (my favourite is trials and tribulations), for the frog the bell tolls, & paper mario: the thousand year door.

if you* want to make fan works (art, fic, comics, &c.) of my games, just do it. i won't give permission, but at the same time i won't deny permission either. i don't think i should be involved. be free!

*you being an individual person & not a company &c. - companies should contact me through the above form.

my only ground rules:

  • play the game yourself first!
  • don't use official assets or suggest your fan work is official
  • don't mass produce stuff or sell stuff on demand

as well, i ask that you treat other people's fan works with respect. you are free to do whatever you want in this playground, & so is everyone else. i won't tell people what fan works they can or can't make with my games, so i ask that you don't do that to anyone else either.

if you are an individual streamer or content creator, please feel free to livestream my games as long as you follow these guidelines:

  • include a link to the game or npckc in the description when uploading videos!
  • if the video contains content that could be considered spoiler-y, include a spoiler warning in the description
  • don't upload or stream the game background music on its own

you don't need to contact me, but you can if you like.

however, if you are not an individual streamer or content creator (e.g., you represent a company, are represented by a company, &c.), please contact me through the above form.

i have shops where you can buy soundtracks for my games, line stickers, & merch!

 bandcamp soundtracks
 line store line stickers
 booth merch*

*intl shipping is available on booth through buyee.

my games can generally be found on itch.io, steam, gog, google play & consoles.

for engines, i mostly use ren'py, an open-source visual novel engine, to make my games, but i've also made games in unity, rpg maker, & gb studio.

for art, i use clip studio (regular art) & aseprite (pixel art).

for writing, i actually just write right into vs code most of the time... i find it easier to write the script directly into a code editor with all the necessary code instead of writing it in a word processor first then adding the codey bits later.

i think game dev is really fun & anyone can do it if they want. if you are at all interested in making one, i'd recommend checking out some game jams & seeing if there's anything you want to try to make!
