The sky was a deep blue, almost an indigo color. The area I was in was abstract; blocks rose like columns out of nowhere, and there were ramps leading to blue, glowing portals. The blocks were gray, gloomy, and depressing, made out a material that felt smooth, yet indescribable. It was there that the chase began.
I don't remember how it started, or why it happened in the first place, but I remember running, him close behind me. I could hear the click of his boots on the ground, and I felt bullets whiz by as I kept running. Wanting to get away, I ran up the nearest ramp and into a portal, not knowing where it would take me.
I landed in a library, of all things, and stopped for a moment to look at my surroundings. Bookshelves and mounds of books were everywhere, and a goblin-like lady sat at a desk, staring at me with an evil eye, demanding I keep quiet. I tiptoed forward, hoping not to disturb anyone, yet still trying to run.
I was almost to the other portal when I felt myself being picked up by the back of my shirt. I didn't have to even guess who it was, the strong grip was enough of a clue. He turned me around to face him, still holding me by the back of my shirt, in the air. He chuckled, a cocky grin plastered on his face.
"You've got guts, kid. Though you should know by now that running from me is pointless."
I stared into his face, his eyes cold and harsh. They sent shivers up and down my spine. My mind raced on an idea of how to escape. I felt my brain frantically thinking, when it suddenly came to me and I reacted. Without a second thought, I pushed away from him, my two feet on his chest. Surprised by my actions, he let go, and I tumbled and ran into the portal ahead of me. As I went through the blue mist, I could hear him chuckle and reach for Ebony and Ivory again.
This portal I entered was different from the one I had used before. I was in a dimension between spots. It was blank, empty, dark, and cold. I stood there, in the tunnel way, waiting for him to come through the portal and chase after me again.
But he never did.
I looked back at the portal I had come from, confused. Slowly and uncertainly, I turned back to face forward, and made my way to the portal that was in front of me. I stepped through the blue mist and onto the ramp, my eyes adjusting to the change in light. Slowly I recognized that I was in the abstract world again, in between two column blocks. I began walking down the ramp when my eyes caught movement, and I froze.
He was there. Waiting for me. At the end of this alley-like area. Waiting, leaning against one wall and giving me a cold stare. I took a step back, ready to run back into the portal. He walked forward, Ebony in his left hand, his right hand going for his sword. He was closing in on me quickly. I backed up and waited to fall into the portal, wanting to be whisked away from him again.
My hand stretched back to fall into the emptiness, and all I felt was a wall.
I turned back quickly to notice the portal was gone. I was trapped. Looking back forward, I saw him at the bottom of the ramp. He walked up to me and placed the gun at my head, his other hand leaning Rebellion on his shoulder. I stared at him, the look on my face like that of a deer caught in headlights, my voice trying to say something and failing. I felt a lump form in my throat and tears well in my eyes. I heard him tell me something before I heard the gun fire.
"Sorry. I don’t make exceptions."
