Episode 1007: Like It or Lup It
Episode overview:
Team Rocket steals a whole bunch of fruit from a group of unsuspecting Pokemon and then pins it on a trio of Ludicolo. Piplup, in an effort to prove himself, intervenes and helps set things right.
Piplup really grows as a character in this one and I love that it continues to attack TR's Magikarp sub, even though it keeps getting thrown from it. The Team Rocket court scene is also hilarious.
On dubbing:
The gang really takes a back seat in this one and there's not a lot of Brock dialogue. However, I got the chance to return to voicing Ludicolo (who had some brief appearances in Season 9). And this time around, I had to voice three. I tried to make their voices slightly varied, especially when they are singing. You all may remember my musical debut in 939 (Strategy Tomorrow - Comedy Tonight). This time around was both easier and more difficult. I didn't have to sing a song this time, just a medley (which I tried to keep similar to the Japanese). However, this time I had to record multiple tunes THREE times each. And keep them in harmony. Needless to say it was a long session, but ultimately a rewarding one.
Trivia:
Doing some work on the technical end, I sometimes get the opportunity to suggest titles for upcoming scripts. While my suggestion for 934 ("Slaking Kong") was used, I wasn't as fortunate this time around. Y'see, I had originally pitched the title "Piplup or Shut Up" for this episode, but it was felt by the writing staff that S&P might not be down with using the words "shut up" in the title for what is often promoted as children's programming. For safety's sake, it was changed to "Like It or Lup It" which in essence carries the same message without running the risk of offending anyone.
