First recorded appearance Strange Worlds #3 April 1959. Common in several hundred comics through 1985. Early years' ads list publisher as Grit Publishing Co. Grit was a newspaper founded in 1882 as the Saturday edition of the Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Daily Sun and Banner. It was later separated and became a familiar newspaper in small towns across the U.S. for over a century. Since 1990, Grit has continued publication as a bi-monthly magazine, with content similar to its founding, such as practical advice, rural life and farming.
