  • Black Manta first appeared in Aquaman (DC, 1962 series) #35 (September-October 1967).
  • Black Manta's face was first shown in Adventure Comics (DC, 1938 series) #452 (July-August 1977).
  • Versions of his origin were given in Aquaman (DC, 1991 series) #6 (May 1992) and Aquaman (DC, 2003 series) #8 (September 2003).
  • Black Manta's first name was revealed to be David in Brightest Day (DC, 2010 series) #9 (Early November 2010); his surname was not given.
  • It was revealed in Brightest Day (DC, 2010 series) #10 (Late November 2010) that Black Manta had a son named Jackson Hyde, however Hyde was the surname of Jackson's adoptive parents and not Black Manta.
  • First appearance in New 52 continuity in Aquaman (DC, 2011 series) #7 (May 2012).
  • In DC Rebirth continuity, Black Manta was retained as the birth father of Jackson Hyde, but the adoptive parents were eliminated from Jackson's backstory, as shown in Teen Titans (DC, 2016 series) #10 (September 2017).
  • Black Manta's full name was revealed to be David Milton Hyde in Aquaman (DC, 2016 series) #62 (October 2020).
