Aguascalientes Minister of Economic Development, Science, and Technology Esaú Garza met with Francisco Ripoll, Chief Operating Officer, Naturgy México, to review the expansion plans for a MX$276 million (US$15 million) investment to build a new natural gas City Gate.

The project aims to strengthen the state’s energy infrastructure and expand industrial and commercial coverage. City Gate was announced in June during an economic promotion tour in Spain led by Governor of Aguascalientes Teresa Jiménez, part of the state government’s strategy to attract investment and consolidate key development projects.

“We had a very productive meeting with Naturgy México, a leader in natural gas distribution and power generation, to follow up on the company’s expansion projects in Aguascalientes,” says Garza.

The new City Gate will expand energy coverage for the local industry, improve supply security amid rising demand, and complement ongoing electrification projects in industrial zones across the state.

The initiative highlights the company’s commitment to modern, safe and sustainable infrastructure, says Daniel Zavala, Head of Large Consumption and New Construction in the Bajío Region, Naturgy México. “We are proud to contribute to Aguascalientes’ energy development and appreciate the state government's close collaboration, especially Governor Jiménez and Minister Garza de Vega, for their vision and commitment,” he adds.

Naturgy México says that the project aligns with its long-term strategy of integrating technological innovation, operational efficiency, and renewable alternatives to strengthen the energy transition. Officials add that the investment reinforces Aguascalientes’ reputation as a reliable destination for industrial growth supported by modern energy infrastructure and globally competitive services.

With this initiative, Aguascalientes strengthens its position as a trusted destination for industrial investment, backed by modern, safe, and sustainable infrastructure.

Naturgy, which has a presence in 25 countries and serves 16 million customers globally, is positioning its investment as a strategic move to support the growing industrial base in central Mexico.

“With this project, we reaffirm our commitment to foster sustainable development, energy innovation, and conditions that drive the economic growth of Aguascalientes,” reads Naturgy Mexico’s statement about the project on its Linkedin page, reports MBN.
