Jack Jeanne
I don’t think the backlog will ever let me see every suitor’s ending in Jack Jeanne, but the ones I did reach were worth the extreme amounts of effort I had to put in. And it's nice that we have a proof of concept for "replicating physical performance in a rhythm game" like I asked for last month. Still, hopefully there’s a nice long break before the next rhythm novel because I definitely need one.
Jack Jeanne is a sensational visual novel full of singing, dancing and drama. If you like rhythm games and hunky boys then you're in for a treat.
Despite having improvable sections such as the 3D designs and the way the rhythm part of the game has been incorporated into the plot, if you like Sui Ishida's designs and the theatrical setting, this is a visual novel you can't ignore.

The main story was soooo good. It's an otome game that slow burn so much that it can be a visual novel and I will give it 10/10 because it was so good at making me fall for and root for our MC on her journey.

Intro: I have been trying to play this game for a long time. Switch games are already not the most accessible games, let alone this niche game which first released exclusively by Japanese game publishers. It was only in mid 2023 that broccoli decided to release it to the west. And I only got my hands on a copy in 2025 due to price and prioritising other (cheaper/more accessible) games. To make a long story short: this was a long time coming, but glad to have finally tried this game. And what a unique game it is. It is, as somebody wrote, "80% visual novel, 15% simulator, and 5% rhythm game". I, like many (I presume), got interested in this title because of the marketing and the Sui Ishida involvement tag. What I liked: The story. Needless to say, the story must be interesting and well written and long enough for this type of game. I am glad to say it had me hooked like a good book for a few nights. I have never played a game about acting, it felt very slice of life, anime-esque - in a good way. The premise is cool. The characters are rather memorable. The voice acting is great and voluminous (I started to feel bad at some point, they must have spent hours in the recording booth). Sonically, I am mixed. The ost did the job, and fit the game well - I didn't think much of it before playing the game, and somebody who has not played the game would think it were hotel reception music. Did the music feel slightly repetitive, and the full OST altogether short? Perhaps. "Onyx," and "Amber, part 1," are quite cool tracks. The musical performance songs are hit or miss - I think it is also simply not a genre I like (group J-pop songs). What could have been improved: A lot. Which is why I only played till about halfway. Firstly, the stat aspect seemed useless to me. I could not tell the benefit of upgrading certain stats. Secondly, I felt like I did not have much/great dialogue options, or the options to make it clear we are not interested in a character romantically. While the full-screen artworks are great (I assume they were drawn by the great Ishida himself), some of the character designs were boring, and they also lacked alternative body positions/angles (I am almost sure they are limited to 2, maybe some were in the same pose for the whole game). This limits the story-telling/realism/immersion. The facial animations were fine, but the backgrounds and bodies stood out as minor issues for me. Another issue was the rhythm game. Disastrous. weird button choices, and the songs did not seem to match the visuals/gameplay. Oh imagine if they had somehow creatively mixed the gameplay of Soundfall or NSR, or even Hellsing - it does not have to be high budget, but it does have to be fun and more polished/precise. Plus, having one of these games' gameplay styles would have added much needed diversity. Conclusion: In conclusion, some great art and an interesting story does not save JJ, which suffered from having limited budget, hence limited gameplay and art. I guess all the budget must have gone into the lovely voice actors. I give Jack Jeanne anywhere between 72-77/100. It should be treated as a long audio book I guess, but I may be more impatient than others. And audio books aren't my thing. Especially if Sui Ishida and Nintendo are in the back of my mind.

The best visual novel/otome game I've ever seen. It's so good even to a point I'd recommend it even for people who aren't intersted in otome games but enjoy visual novels. Everything was made with so much love, attention, detail, care, you can feel how every staff member really loved this project. The art is beautiful, the voice acting is spectacular, the songs are mindblowing. All the characters are amazing, well written, they never fall flat or boring. The story leaves no plot holes and even the few cliche aspects (childhood friend, a girl secretly in a boys school) are so well done that you can grow to like them. This is a must-play. It's an amazing game that changed forever the way I see otome visual novels.

Aside from all this romance games live and die on the cast, and there is an excellent cast of characters to choose from. No matter who you choose, you get to know everyone around you, and they bond together throughout the year independent of you. Each piece moves like fully formed people adding to that perfect feeling that what is happening is real. Jack Jeanne is the pinnacle, and evolution of the genre beyond simple dialogue trees. It’s a turning point for romance games, and we are unlikely to see a change so drastic for a long time.

Jack Jeanne is easily the best otome game you can play right now, if you’re ok with rhythm gameplay. I love rhythm games and good quality otome games so Jack Jeanne feels tailor made for me. If you enjoy rhythm games but haven’t been able to get into the otome sub genre yet, this is for you. Just go buy Jack Jeanne.

Jack Jeanne is a magnific experience! Not just for the otome games but also for the visual novels industry. The characters have a very beautiful development, the plot is smooth, pretty and very deep! The music and the art are just perfect, Sui Ishida did an amazing job! Kisa is one of the best MC, she is strong, pretty, kind and a very lovely person! The romance is the most principal point but I think its more… natural? Than in others games, the love is part of the plot ofc but… its just SO SMOOTH- I love it. And the rhythm game is fun, a extra mechanic in a kind of game that is strange have this type of things! I love it! I play a lot of otome games and this one is right now one of my favourites! Please play! Oh rama Havenna!

Jack Jeanne is an interesting otome title focusing more on its plot and emotional buildup than on direct romance. However, it still manages to spin a compelling and thought-provoking narrative with a whole lot of heart. Jack Jeanne celebrates creativity with characters you can truly appreciate when the final curtain falls. It’s a prime example of a game taking an innovative risk by leaping into the unknown and becoming a much stronger gaming experience.

Jack Jeanne is an absolute delight. It’s one of my favorite games of 2023. I’d easily consider it my favorite Switch otome game, in the same way Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 3rd Story stole my heart on the 3DS. It’s so well-executed. Anyone who enjoys visual novels, even if they normally don’t go for ones that are dating sims, should give it a chance.

EXQUISITE. By far one of the best games I’ve ever picked up. The plot was intriguing, the characters were all interesting in their own ways and the character development… oh the character development. It was fantastic. The amount of effort that went into this game paid off. The romance plots may feel like less to some but after really getting to know the characters, they feel right. The music is one of the best parts of this as well. Hold onto your seat for some of the semester performances— they had me in tears.

The creator of Tokyo Ghoul Sui Ishida did AMAZING work with this game. This game has a gorgeous, unique art style, the rhythm music games're fun with multiple difficulties and remappable buttons and the songs are all total bops I can't get out of my head. If you start a fresh save file every time you do a playthrough the random encounter events can be different from other playthroughs, making it feel less repetitive. Oh and the characters and romances? All wonderful, the group dynamic of everyone is gorgeous and everyone is unique in their personality, reasons, and reveals on their individual routes. I don't usually like stat raiser otomes, but this one's kept me going for 10 days, made myself sleep deprived numerous times, I've finished most every route already and am fiending for more. It's been worth every moment and lack of sleep.

This game is easily the best otome game released this year or possibly ever. The story is good enough to make you cry and the music is so catchy it’ll be stuck in your head for weeks. 10/10, obviously anyone rating otherwise *cough cough* have never even played and are just salty it got better reviews than a classic GameCube game

One of the best visual novels. Sui Ishidas artwork is absolutely beautiful, and he packed over 150 CGs into this game. The characters are interesting, the music is surprisingly beautiful. There's not a ton of romance, which can be a positive or negative depending on your tastes - I liked it, personally. The rhythm games are meh, but that's not what you're playing this for. If you like VNs, you'll probably like this game. If you don't like VNs, try something else instead of rating someone's hard work down.

SummaryThe game's story centers around protagonist Kisa Tachibana, a girl who had given up on a career in theater, but receives an invitation to attend the Univeil Drama School, an elite drama school for male actors, where students play female roles (referred to as "Jeanne" roles) in addition to male roles ("Jack" roles).
