Shadow of the Machine is a TOS eBook, one of three released in the 2010s decade by Pocket Books. Written by Scott Harrison, the story began four days after the events of TOS movie: The Motion Picture and featured the birth of Hikaru Sulu's daughter Demora Sulu.

The crew has been granted a two-week period of shore leave before preparations for their next voyage begins.
