Prometheus (myth)

Prometheus was a figure in Greek mythology. In the myths, Prometheus created Humanity and gave them the knowledge of fire.

Legacy

The element promethium was named for the mythological character. (ST reference: Star Fleet Medical Reference Manual)

The Pah-wraith who possessed Nia Manning referred to Benny Russell as Prometheus. (DS9 - Strange New Worlds 2016 short story: "The Dreamer and the Dream")

In a log entry in 2269, Captain James T. Kirk metaphorically referred to Leonard McCoy's abandoned communicator on Sigma Iotia II as a Promethean "gift of fire". The Iotians referred to Kirk, Spock, and McCoy as the "Arbiters of Prometheus". (TOS - Year Five - Odyssey's End comic: "Issue 3")
