Mission's End, Issue 4

"Mission's End, Issue 4" is the fourth issue of the Star Trek: The Original Series comic book miniseries Mission's End, published by IDW Publishing in June 2009. It was written by Ty Templeton with art by Stephen Molnar.

Description

With McCoy missing, Kirk unconscious, and the badly damaged, Spock and Scotty must protect the Archernarian "Heart of God" — the most powerful weapon in the universe — from being stolen by Orion pirates — all while civil war rages inside Archernar IV.

Summary

Log entries

First officer's log, stardate 5958.4.
Archernar IV is an ancient worldship, whose engines seem capable of producing near limitless power. The current occupiers of this world, a spider-like species who evolved on the long abandoned ship, now lay claim to the alien technology that they call "The Heart of God".
The Enterprise's mission to welcome Archernar IV into the Federation has met with several setbacks. Doctor McCoy's landing party has been missing for over twenty-four hours, lost on an expedition to retrieve biological samples of local flora. We have witnessed an organized rebellion of the domesticated animals called "Crawlers", who rose up as one and dismantled the structure of the Heart of God, removing a section of the apparatus. And during these events, Captain Kirk received a blow to the head that has rendered him unconscious. I suspect the situation may deteriorate further.
Chief engineer's log, acting captain of the Enterprise, stardate 5958.7
Lt. Uhura has detected a scrambled and unauthorized sub-space signal broadcasting from within the ship on deck eight. Lt. Sulu, Lt. Slott and myself have gone to investigate.
