Demarest was a Starfleet ensign assigned to the USS Budapest.
In 2373, Captain sh'Raazn and the Budapest crew were testing the new TR-116 rifle, when they went into battle against the Borg during the Battle of Sector 001. Sh'Raazn was assimilated when the Borg invaded the Budapest and Sam Bowers was forced to kill her when the Andorian attempted to assimilate Ensign Demarest. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Lesser Evil)
