Constitution class (mirror)

In the mirror universe, the Constitution class was a 22nd century[1] Terran Empire starship type, a warship[2] in Imperial Starfleet service from the 2150s decade. The design was originally obtained from the Tholian, after they had lured the 23rd century prime universe USS Defiant into an interphasic rift. (ENT episode: "In a Mirror, Darkly")

History and specifications

Origin

The Constitution-class heavy cruiser was developed by Federation scientists in the prime universe and entered Starfleet service in 2245. (ST reference: Federation: The First 150 Years)

One of the ships of the class was the USS Defiant (NCC-1764). In 2268, the Defiant became the target of a temporal incursion by the Na'kuhl aimed at the Tholians. (STO missions: "Agents of Yesterday", "Tangled Webs")

Defiant interphase
The Defiant in the interphase

The Defiant became trapped in interphase and Captain Thomas Blair issued a distress call. Its crew went mad and the ship was lost to interphase. (TOS episode: "The Tholian Web", VAN novel: What Judgments Come)

This had been arranged by Noye, leader of the Temporal Liberation Front, as a personal gift to Admiral Leeta. (STO - Future Proof mission: "Temporal Reckoning")

at Earth in 2155.

The Defiant had been lured through interphase into the mirror universe by a fake distress call from the Tholian Assembly. Its crew dead, the Tholians held the Defiant inside an asteroid base in the Vintaak system in the year 2155. They assigned alien workers to gut the ship. Commander Jonathan Archer learned of the existence of the "Terran" ship, staged a mutiny aboard the

and led the boarding party that reactivated the futuristic ship.

With Enterprise destroyed by the Tholians in the Vintaak system, the Defiant recovered the Imperial Starfleet survivors and travelled to Earth. Hoshi Sato poisoned Archer and declared herself Empress of the Terran Empire. (ENT episode: "In a Mirror, Darkly")

Initially, Terran science was unable to replicate the ship's technology, which was 100 years ahead of the 2150s decade. Some of its systems were removed for study. The vessel guaranteed Empress Hoshi I's reign. (Mirror Universe - Glass Empires novel: Age of the Empress)

The

was the first sister ship of the Defiant-type. It was constructed by Imperial Starfleet at Beta Nairobi but captured by Archer's Rebellion. (Mirror Universe - Shards and Shadows short story: "Nobunaga")

23rd century

The Defiant remained in service into the 2250s decade. In 2256, the universe-jumping USS Discovery learned the fate of the Defiant from a recovered database. The wireframe model of the Defiant reviewed by the Discovery crew showed a modified configuration, with angled nacelle pylons and receded emplacements around the saucer section. (DSC episode: "Vaulting Ambition")

At the time, vessels of this class also operated with configurations reminiscent of the 2240s and 2250s-era prime Constitution class, like the

In the 2260s, the Enterprise sported a gunmetal gray hull color and resembled the 2254 configuration of its prime counterpart. (TOS episode: "Mirror, Mirror")

At some point, the rogue M-5 computer seized ships of this class. At another time, the

crossed the Romulan Neutral Zone into the territory of Romulan Republic. It was wrecked by Romulan forces and its hulk left derelict at Carthalus MCVX.

This version of the Constitution-class remained in service at least into 2285. (TOS - The Mirror Universe Saga comic: "Behind Enemy Lines!")

In the year 2411, the Khitomer Alliance acquired vessels classified as tier 6 Terran warship, including the Defiant. Their components were interchangeable with those of Discovery-era Constitution-class models. The Alliance learned that Hoshi I had upgraded the vessel with additional weapon emplacements in its time. The recovered Defiant featured red hull markings and matched the appearance of the wireframe model recovered by the Discovery in 2256. (STO website: House Divided: The Ship That Smashed the Mirror)
