A cockpit was the area in an air or spacecraft from which the pilot and other personnel controlled the vehicle.

History and specifics

The F-104 Starfighter had a small, one person cockpit. (TOS episode: "Tomorrow is Yesterday")

In the year 2020, the USS Lewis & Clark had a decent sized cockpit in which all three crewmembers worked. (TOS novel: The Rings of Time)

The cockpit of Earth's first warp vessel, the Phoenix, was small and tightly fit its three crewmembers. (TNG movie: First Contact)

In 2261 of the Kelvin timeline, cadets wore environmental suits while in the cockpit of Starfleet cadet ship A-317. (SA - Starfleet Academy comic: "Issue 3")
