The Boeing 747 was a type of large passenger and commercial aircraft developed in the United States and in service on Earth during the 20th and 21st centuries. The plane was specially customized for such uses as transport of the United States President aboard "Air Force One" starting in 1990.
Service history
On 17 May 1974, a Boeing 747 landed in Delhi at 4 a.m. after having flown Isis and Roberta Lincoln there from New York, a 14-hour trip. (TOS novel: The Eugenics Wars: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1)
At one point, after accidentally rendering both pilots unconscious with her servo, Lincoln had been forced to fly a Boeing 747 through a thunderstorm. (TOS novel: Assignment: Eternity)
In 1986, a specially-modified 747 flew George and Gracie from California to Alaska. (TOS movie & novelization: The Voyage Home)
In 2020, Shaun Christopher thought the touchdown of
to the UNSS Lewis and Clark was smoother than that of a Boeing 747 landing on an airport runway. (TOS novel: The Rings of Time)
Shuttle carrier aircraft
NASA's space shuttles were affixed to one of two specially-outfitted Boeing 747s for transport between California and Florida. (TOS comic: "Star Trek Annual 1979": "A Real Spaceship Enterprise")
On 12 August 1977, CO Fred Haise and pilot C. Gordon Fullerton detached
from a Boeing 747 and flew the spacecraft on its maiden flight. (Star Trek: Communicator Issue 135: "First Captain of the Enterprise")
