Triangular envelopment was a classic starship maneuver employed by, among others, Talarians. In this posture, the aggressors position themselves in a roughly triangular pattern, exploiting their target's weakest points, while also cutting off their means of escape.
Several Talarian warships moved into this position when preparing to engage the USS Enterprise-D in 2367, with one ship remaining face-to-face with the Enterprise, with the other two positioned facing both nacelles. (TNG: "Suddenly Human")
