I noticed two of the elements in the shortcuts at the top of every page recently changed from "22nd & 23rd century" and "24th century" to "Productions" and "People". I find this new format to be a lot less convenient than the old one since the new tabs only show a tiny fraction of what was previously there. Even with the "more" buttons it takes longer to find the page you want, especially with classic trek. I was wondering how this decision was made, and if it would be possible to change back. Partly, it was because Trek has expanded to take place in many more centuries than ever before. IIRC, it was discussed on a previous TF thread. -LauraCC (talk) 01:15, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
Here is the discussion. In short, the old system was unsustainable, since only seven items can be included in each menu, and only four top-level menus are allowed. In fact, the very next show in development (Star Trek: Starfleet Academy) wouldn't have been able to be included, because it will be set in the 32nd century, which didn't (and couldn't) have a dropdown. We couldn't even add it to one of the other two dropdowns, since both were full. So, this is really the only tenable option.
Furthermore, removing the cluttered sub-menus probably makes them easier to navigate for average readers, and we're deciding which links to include based on which pages are most-viewed, so we show people what they're actually looking for. 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (talkcontribs) 21:58, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
