fetal position

A position, resembling that of the fetus in the womb, sometimes adopted by a child or adult in a state of distress or withdrawal. The position is one in which the body is drawn into itself. The head is bent forward, the spine is curved, the arms are crossed over the chest and the hips and knees are fully bent (flexed).
