a synthetic analogue of somatostatin, used as the acetate ester in palliative treatment of symptoms of gastrointestinal endocrine tumors and in treatment of acromegaly; administered subcutaneously, intragluteally, or intravenously.

octreotide

An hormone inhibitor analogue of the natural substance SOMATOSTATIN. Octreotide has a much longer effective time of action than somatostatin and is selective in its action on secretion of growth hormone, GASTRIN, SECRETIN and MOTILIN. It is also effective against various tumours of the ENDOCRINE system. A brand name is Sandostatin.
