Write to Decision-Makers
Use this Google Form to write a comment. FireGen will support delivery to decision-makers at the California state level, or at the federal level. Share who you are and why you think cultural fire is important. Make a clear ask! You could emphasize the need to: Expand funding for Tribal and Indigenous-led land and fire programs. Recognize cultural burning as an inherent Tribal right, defined by Tribes. Train all govt. agency staff to know and support Tribal law, history, and culture. Expand meaningful land co-management and re-matriation. LandBack! Or anything else you want to share!

Fire Resilience Workforce Needs: Call-Out Form
Fire Resilience Workforce Needs: Call-Out Form
Help shape fire workforce research in this changing time! The Ecosystem Workforce Program and FireGeneration Collaborative are researching and convening people around fire resilience workforces (e.g. wildfire response, land stewardship, community resilience). In light of changes from the ground up to the federal level, we want to be thoughtful. We’re asking workers, program leads, advocates, and scholars to share what questions and issues matter most to you right now. Your responses will help guide our work! We will not be able to address everything, but we’ll share an anonymous report of what we learn from this survey to all respondents, as well as an opt-in for project updates. Please take a few minutes to fill out this form - thank you so much! For any questions or concerns, contact Annabelle Law from the research team at alaw@uoregon.edu.

Fire as medicine 🧨 Oregon Live Podcast with Ryan Reed
Fire as medicine 🧨 Oregon Live Podcast with Ryan Reed
Earlier this month, a federal advisor committee met in Portland to come up with recommendations for updates to the Northwest Forest Plan, a blueprint that will guide forest management in the region through the next century. Ryan Reed, the 23-year-old representative on the committee who is also an Indigenous firefighter, talked with Beat Check about why we all should care about trees, how fire can be used to manage them and why Indigenous cultural burning practices could guide the approach.
