Overview

Environmental Earth Sciences is an international journal seeking to advance geosphere+ knowledge for environmental problem solving. It focuses on the study of anthropogenically altered interactions within the geosphere and between the geosphere–biosphere. It strives to provide unbiased scientific evidence for sustainable management of natural resources and mitigation of geological, chemical and biological hazards, drawn on academic and industrial expertise in geophysics, geochemistry, biogeosciences, engineering geology, hydrogeology, and physical geography. It has become an open access journal on 1 January 2026. Please see the FAQs at the bottom of this page for more information on funding options, including a limited number of waivers.  Nearly all (96%) of surveyed authors expressed willingness to publish again. Contributions are welcome in 6 article types covering 6 topical areas:

  • Six article types: Research article, Review, Editorial and Commentary, Policy and Practice, Technical paper, and Data report

  • Six topical areas: Environmental impact assessment from a geoscience perspective, Geo-hazards,  Groundwater systems, Natural and engineered georeservoirs, Surface and ground water resources engineering, and Research tools for data science
