Help:Template

Templates are the backbone of Wikipedia, but Wikipedia in Luganda (lgwiki) mostly relies on Wikipedia in English (enwiki) templates and modules, so the compatibility between these two Wikipedias is very important when it comes to templates.

For the moment, lgwiki templates names and parameter names are the same as on enwiki.

In depth help can be found on enwiki : en:Help:Template and MediaWiki : mw:Help:Templates.

This page is a quick tutorial to import templates from enwiki.

Procedure

The things to do are quite easy, as templates work the same on every wiki, as they all use wikicode (also named 'wikitext').

1. Go on enwiki and find the template you want to import.
2. Click on 'Edit' or 'View source'. An edition box with the code of the template should appear.
3. Select all the code (Ctrl+A) and copy it (Ctrl+C).
4. Go in the address bar of your web browser, the URL should be something like https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Example&action=edit.
5. Replace en with lg just after https://, the new URL should be something like https://lg.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Example&action=edit.
6. Press ↵ Enter, this will take you on lgwiki edition page.
   • The edit box should be empty and the title of the page should be 'Creating Template:...'
   • If the edit box already contains some code, and the page title is something like 'Editing Template:...' or 'Kati okyusa Template:...', the template already exists, just exit the page.
7. Paste the code previously copied in the edit box (Ctrl+V) and save your edit with the blue button 'Publish changes' or 'Wanika/teekayo omuko guno'.
8. Now you have to link the page to the other Wikipédias (this is very important to make later editions and maintenance easier):
   1. Copy the full name of the template (e.g. 'Template:Example')
   2. Click on ???

I don't understand luganda, and I am using Vector 2010, so I cannot explain how to create interlanguage links for the moment.
