What a full body experience. Blending between period drama, Southern gothic horror, and action thriller, Sinners has a pulse and rhythm that’s brought to atmospheric and textured life by Ludwig Göransson. Ryan Coogler maintains this distinct tone and personality, shifting from the Mississippi town to focusing on the juke joint, which now becomes the center of this epic narrative. It’s a place where sin, greed, and lust live, but ultimately where music of past, present, and future roars, only to summon a force of evil that transforms the joint into a creaking house of horror. Thank god I experienced it in all its 70mm glory (my first time!) because that was breathtaking.
